The sandwich method is GOLD. I use it 3-4 times a week. I love to colour-coordinate more than I would like to admit. It literally makes me feel SO put-together when my shoes match my top in a fun colour.
You should watch Palm Royale with Kristen Wiig! It’s very “young socialite mom in the sixties” (albeit late 60’s almost 70’s). I’ve been so inspired by the fashion in the show.
