The shields thing is...yeah, it hurts. The ending's damn stupid too. The hunt for matching waveforms is much less stupid than it sounds. There's a lot of scientific research where we get together a theoretical model of what a molecule should look like pretty quick, but then have to spend years or even decades developing a method of producing a compound that contains that molecule, and frequently we do work that out by finding a natural container of that compound and either emulating the way the plant produces that compound or straight-up growing a bunch of that plant and harvesting the compound from it. Near as the movie shows, the bioetheric waveforms they're attempting to match up are four-dimensional. To get them to cancel, you have to have an opposite-color waveform that retains the fluctuating shape of a three-dimensional energy "object" over time. And honestly, that seems like the kind of thing that would present a similar level of challenge to this advanced civilization as our own work in molecular biology has done for us. If they've found physical objects that generate perfect matches for these four-dimensional waveforms, you better believe they'll try and use them. It's possible they don't have that fourth dimension figured out yet - That they can record the shape of the wave at a given time but can't predict its shape in the next moment - which would jive with their ability to recognize a match (It keeps perfect pace with the opposed waveform for multiple seconds at a time) but limited ability to guess where they'll find one and total inability to generate an accurate one from scratch. Of course if this theory is true, they could have done, I dunno, ANYTHING to clarify this in the film. Jeez, did I just spend multiple paragraphs trying to defend this trainwreck? I'm going to bed.

The crazy thing I have noticed about this movie now is how much later Scifi games looked like this movie. Heck...some of the font on the Zeus cannon is in DOOM 3 and a lot of the computers and infrastructure looks like it came right out of this movie!

I remember when this all went down, and Square's reputation was in tatters. Everyone blamed everyone else, but having forked with Squeenix, this falls right on their shoulders. The entire company is staffed with hotheaded, massively egotistical narcissists who abuse their workers and think even their tiniest whim is more important than everyone under them. It's no shock whatsoever that the producers and directors thought this was their magnum opus, everyone under their direction probably (and correctly) recognized it as the bloated, nonsensical garbage that it is. But of course, they can't say anything, or else they'd get fired and blacklisted, ruining their whole lives. Yeah, that happened. A lot.
20:41 forgive me if im also sounding like im harping but after Rays Proton pack is activated Peta and Spngaler try to cower to the left side of the lift carrage now my question is this HOW IN THE SMEG DOES THAT COUNT AS A MINIMAL SAFE DISTANCE IF THE PROTON PACK EXPLODES NOT ONLY WILL ALL 3 OF THEM WIL DIE BUT THE HOLE HOTELL AND EVERYBODY IN IT UPTO A DISTANCEW OF LETS SAY 50 MILES WILL BE WIPED OF THE SMEGGING MAP
Well.. to be honest criminals also are protected by law, so until someone is especially dangerous he probably would be released depending on charges during evacuation. At least it has more sense then arguing with the computer to do so like in Discovery.

I like this movie
I've thought it was clever, original and visually outstanding.
That "particularly badass scene" was my favorite in the movie as well. It's a brilliant and pretty unique action scene.
