    I think it's a bit funny you seem surprised or disappointed that a jazz club (the music born in New Orleans) has an American architectural feel lol.

    You've sold me on this one. I feel like there is a lot of history hidden in plan sight. That building feels improvised like Jazz itself.

    Jazz evolves everywhere because people feel it and add their own inflections. Our cultures evolve. Our cities also evolve. My 12 year old grandson particularly wanted this set & absolutely loves it. When done he played Nina Simone's Feeling Good & said that was what they were performing. Now he's got a crazy scene with people climbing up outside the building, a police raid & people doing all sorts of things. In his mind the city's alive. Jazz is alive. This prissy review is quite silly.

    I agree that a lot of the problems are with the color choice, mostly in the pizzeria and first floor. I do like the idea of dark blue being used for the walls to compliment the bright blue facade. Maybe the pizzeria could have been dark red instead? I do love jewel tones next to each other. Splashes of lighter color in the detailing would pop, especially if complementary like the bright blue facade

    Well to each their own I guess... It is true that it's not a ground breaking lego set (especially after the hotel) but I've always loved the vibes it brings to a city because of the colours. And that's precisely why I skipped the museum (first skip in 10 years).

    I love your approach to Modulars as an architect and city planner. I feel that most of the Modulars are an “old-world” feel. The police station looks like it’s from the 1940s, the museum late 1800s early 1900s. The Jazz Club is newer maybe 70’s? I love jazz music and have been to several jazz clubs here in the US. It reminds me of one I visited - brick building, bright pops of color with art deco furniture and art. I can definitely see how the translation and integration into a city would be difficult. I think if the pizzeria was a restaurant or bar servicing the Jazz club and the colors were muted, this would be a more cohesive building.

  • @Zabadak
    @Zabadak 7 месяцев назад +5

    Yeah that colour is a issue. The start idea of Lego itself was Dark blue instead of Dark red. That's way I changed it into Dark blue. Because it looks so much better with the details

    I've altered that set quite a bit (and I'm not done altering it). It's a good basis imo for mocs, but out of the box it's not really my cup of tea.
    I have to say, that moc with the balconies up front looks awesome. I might have to try that! 😁

    Glad to hear that I'm not the only person who was disturbed by this Modular Building. The Police Station did the "Big building flanked by smaller building" idea much better. There was a LEGO Friends pizzeria which did the spring yellow color much better, and the dark red color makes it look too much like a fire station. 😊

    I 100% agree. This modular is certainly...unique but not in a positive way. It always feels like a mish mash. Love that you bring up Alberto's moc because that brings such a clear and defined feeling and narrative to it! This is one of my lest favorite modulars that Lego has ever released.

    Btw, I think I'd be gutting this thing and extending the playing stage all along one wall and outside the building with a baby grand piano and I would scratch the pizza joint and add a full bar, Upstairs would be a gambling room and seating area and possibly an apartment on the top floor.

  • @UpTheAnte1987

    I agree with everything you said. I bought it but it's my least favourite modular. The colour clash is terrible. It reminds me of some of the colour clashes you got sets in the 80s, when they only had about 5 colours of brick to choose from.

    I thought this was a weird release for the modular line myself and I'm here in the states. Even so, we don't have jazz clubs across our cities and states but more likely in the south like New Orleans etc. Still, I thought I'd grab it not because it's a jazz club, but because it's a full modular and we do have Rebrickable to turn to.

    As you say it’s all a matter of taste and good for those who like it. But this modular never caught my attention. The colours, the simplicity of the facade, the details are just not for me. I am not buying it because I would have to moc so much that I rather invest in bricks and pieces for my own moc.

    • @HighTeaToys

    This a very American set, in the US most of the theatres from the early 20th century look just like this. And these colors are heinous. Bottom floor should be dark green, dark blue or black. Editing to say a lot of old theatres have been turned to jazz clubs especially in the south.

  • @alrinaleroux9229
    @alrinaleroux9229 7 месяцев назад

    I agree with what you said Johanna, and enjoyed your take on the set.
    The Americans are different -- they have a bit of an urban hodge-podge mishmash, in some places. I noticed many years ago that American Vogue was a lot different from British Vogue, they tended to favour more garish colours and strange colour combinations. I suspect it's the working-class influence, and perhaps the mix of cultural influences. Some cosmopolitan areas are huge melting pots. They just go for whatever they feel like, willy-nilly. (Kind of like a fever dream.) Everyone doing their "own thing".
    It feels to me as though they have their own kind of working-class quirkiness that they feel sentimental about. Bit like the song "Up on the roof". It's a different take on the world.

  • @Ro_MR

    I was so excited when it was leaked that it was going to be a jazz club, and seeing the footage was a total let down. The building looks interesting, but the interior is just bad and the color even worse. It doesn't look good next to other modulars and has details that make it look too much like a toy (which technically it is) but modulars had always achieved an air of sophistication and this one just screams for attention in a bad way.
    I'm the only one who hates the use of the car seat part for regular chairs? It looks lazy and unimaginative for a +18 set.
    It lacked time in the oven, that's a fact.

    I agree, that this building didn't habe the "Wow-effect" that, die example, the Boutique Hotel had for me, but maybe this rebrickable-model from steinekönig would be an idea? I think changing it to the rebrickable model would be a start ( with some changes off course). The jazz club-entrance could be at the corner and the Club on the second and third floor. The Grund floor could have a bigger pizzeria and a small taylor in the side building(or the other way around).
    Either way, i am excited to see what you will Create :).

      I agree video quality could improve from a microphone, but I don’t need that to enjoy these videos.
      Alternative way to improve sound quality could be some heavy cloth on the ceiling to change acoustics of the room.
      (I am no studio designer, but what i hear and see in the video, in sound effect and hard walls makes me think this).
      But still no pressure from me to change, I like your style and (semi-) randomness which are catered for by the one device filming of the lot.
