The ZJ (Gen 1 Grand Cherokee) is a really great platform and the addition of the V8 makes it a really competent vehicle. Plus since it was Jeep's top of the line vehicle at the time, you get a ton of features like leather seats, power everything, and a kickin' Infinity sound system that still holds up today. Heck of a lot of SUV for not a lot of money!
Hey thanks for commenting! Yeah in our family the deal is we'll buy a vehicle for each of the kids but it will be either an accident rebuild like the Jeep TJ project and the Mustang Cobra or a mechanical build like the Grand Cherokee and the kid has to help rebuild it. But we feel like if they have to put sweat equity into the vehicle they tend to appreciate it more and since they know how much work it took to get it nice, they seem to take better care of them. So far so good anyway haha!
Does it have a hitch on the back? They had a recall on those due to a chance of catching fire if rear-ended. The solution from Chrysler is to add a hitch.
So you're saying there's actually a vehicle that blows up on impact like every single Hollywood car? It does not currently have a tow hitch on it. We were looking at the factory mounts and marveling that they're rust free and still have the factory paint on them. But not exploding is an excellent feature, plus Sam for sure wants to tow a motorcycle trailer so we'll get that hitch ordered up. Thanks Dr. Torque!
@@MotorsandMischief I'd have the local Jeep dealer check to see if there are any safety recalls on it. You may get one installed for free. On the one I used to have, they replaced the front rotors for free. It all depends on the year, and what recalls have already been done, but it can't hurt to check.
So just to close the loop on this excellent suggestion, checked with Jeep and they said yes, there is a recall that gets you a free tow hitch, and no, we couldn't have one because the recall had already been done. Sigh. Who takes a hitch off a Grand Cherokee with an explosion problem? So we bought a DrawTite hitch that uses the factory mounts and just installed it today. The ZJ bomb has been defused!

Good to see family projects. Passing on knowledge is the best thing you can do for your children.

First car sweet! You always remember that one.
That’s awesome I’m sure you will make it a great car for her. So cool that Sam is willing and able to help and be involved
