It's the random high notes that take the song to the next level

Wish they weren't so random though. She needed to knock their socks off like she did on Saturday Night Live.

@@cleopatrajones2024 Wasn't that SNL performance incredible? I wish we could get it on RUclips, but each time somebody uploads it, it gets removed. Aretha was beyond amazing on that performance, which happened around the same time as this Grammy show.

For Aretha, it's not just the singing. It's what she symbolized. The entire crowd was captivated by her and revered her.

Her voice was right in that sweet spot at this time. It wasn't too birdy nor too husky. That only thing was, at this time, Aretha mellowed out a lot in her performances. If this show was 10 years prior, she would have reached that top register and STAYED there at the end of the song/vamp. Now a few weeks around this time, she performed this on Saturday Night Live and SOCKED IT TO US. She went OFF at the end but got here and didn't do it. Maybe because it was a more of a White Audience and she assumed she had to be more classy but you can see that a lot of the audience was at the edge of the seat WAITING on her to cut loose but she really didn't. If that was Patti, she would have PULLED them out of their seat. Aretha COULD HAVE hung with Patti at this time but she just gave you a high note here and there. You do that in concert when you are going to sing for over an hour, NOT when you have the world in your hands for one song.
