Watching you and Doug do practical tasks like this together makes me so thankful for my own dad. Like seeing that little corner table Doug made you for your last apartment and then thinking about all the little things my dad does for me just makes me feel so ~blessed~and~thankful~!
I wish Dough a healthy recovery after surgery. For me the worst thing after my last moving, was not having a designated desk for my work/school and had to work on my dinind table. Nothing to worry about but I like to have work and chill places separated

Honestly one of my favorite parts of having a one bedroom apartment on my own, using my space "creatively" was making my 'Living room/Dining area' my bedroom. And then making my 'bedroom' my office/desk/study/hobby space. It was so cozy and relaxing to have one large room where I didn't feel so confined when sleeping/relaxing, and then to have my designated school study desk space away from distractions of my living space. GRANTED It was only ~1000 sq feet.. but having a king in a small bedroom is just so... claustrophobic.
Love how you used rooms so creatively. You’re so right! It’s her space and she can use it any way she wants. Who said she needs a living room or dining room. I like to imagine spaces like I only have one room and think about how my life could flow in it.
I’m moving out soon from a rural property to urban area and I’m so scared I’ve never moved before and the situation isn’t very fun. I have no idea what to expect and don’t want it to turn into a dangerous situation since it’s already so hard to move out in my final year of highschool! I’m so glad though that you have supportive parents especially your dad I wish I had a relationship like you two do. It’s so beautiful to see how he supports you and wants you to be happy.
It’s so true what you said about how you have to get organized in one space and then you move and then nothing works in that space. I went from a three bedroom home, to a four bedroom home. That felt so empty with all of my stuff from my smaller space. And now I’m in a two bedroom apartment. And I had to sell all of my stuff from both places and fill it with smaller furniture. And when I move again someday I’m going to have to probably sell all of this, and buy bigger furniture 🤦🏻♀️ it never ends.

Wishing your dad a smooth recovery. You're lucky to have such a chill, nice, and supportive dad. Weird moving day? Been there. Getting off work at like 5pm and rushing to meet up with a mover. It's hectic. Most of my moves have been after dark because of school and work. My last place had high ceilings upstairs and no lights in the bedrooms. That was a dark time until I got a lamp for it 😅 at least there was a hallway light though. But one little lamp from Target lit up the whole room so well and the mirrored closet doors helped make it brighter. I miss that apartment. I've been watching episodes of Intervention so when I saw the bottle of wine all could think was what if the person moving in is a recovering alcoholic 😳 (not you but in general).
Sending get well wishes to your daddy! Take care of him, he's a good man! Like you I measured all the furniture in my old place for the move to the new place. All of my furniture fit in the new bedroom; I had to sell all of my living room furniture because none of it fit! Congratulations! I know you're really excited! I not totally opposed to having it there, I just love keeping the window space open...but in the vlog I figured some stuff out which made it look so much better!
Don’t be afraid to create your own angles in this space. What’s possible if you float your couch in the middle of the room? Could you put your table up against the back of your couch somewhere? If your porch is covered would the table and chairs work outside? Could you cut the legs down and use it as a round coffee table and use the chairs out side? Once we cut down a large rectangular table into a square one when we moved into a smaller place. Consider selling it and get a drop leaf table that can go flat against a wall when not in use and open up when you want to entertain.

Just helped out a buddy move into his new place in Guelph, ON last week and oddly similar situation as your living room where there were no lights, we hung up Christmas light bulbs as a temporary light source and played Mario Party on his Switch to celebrate the move.

I actually just moved out of my mom’s house and into my first post college apartment!! Dealing with furniture has been such a hassle!! Sadly I’m in the boat of needing more furniture but not wanting to spend a ton of money on it. Bed is currently on the ground and I can’t display anything in my room because I don’t have a bookshelf or anything like that. It’s okay though because I love the apartment!
I totally feel this. Furniture is so expensive and it's so hard being patient when you just want it all set up and done! Hoping you find some good deals and can make the space your own slowly but surly!

I've lived in several apartments like this, and never really liked it much. Always a little unsettling to me coming home from work to the dark room with no light switch to reach for on entry. I would use plug-in night lights "light sensitive sensors", so when the sun would set, the night lights would go on. I had cute lamps on end tables throughout the living room to create cozy lightning, or the option of bright light, when needed. Happy move!! Cheers!
We also have all our lights on Alexa plugs. We walk into the room and ask Alexa to turn on an individual light by name or collectively turn them all on or off. Love this feature so much.

I measured my couch (to my credit it fit my apartment) but my dad and I had to ram it through the doorway and it only went through upside down 😅 it was a very tight squeeze and the door almost had to be taken off the hinges

I did not buy a couch my freshmen year and my sophomore year room came with a couch, so I did not have to worry a lot. I also saved some big amazon boxes incase I had to put some extra stuff in them
Kiara see if the microwave has an undermount light on it to light up the stove. We leave ours on all the time. That way you have a light on in the kitchen when you get home.
Just here as a reminder of why I don't want to move again lol, I love the music during storage scene and also still trying to figure out where this is lol, I mean I been living in Portland for 14, actually is going 15 years in 8 days.
I would say that the putting the table and chairs should be a future you problem. After the rest of the furniture is in; I bet it is going to make more sense on where to put it
A bit late to the video, but to start of reading the comments I hope everything is okay with Doug/Dad? Might have missed what happened to him, but I wish him a speedy recovery. My weirdest moving story is probably that because i’m not allowed to put anything on the walls/ceilings we had to be very creative to get my lightswing lamps screwed into the existing boxes in the ceiling instead of just screwing it into the ceiling 😂 took some hours instead of some minutes haha!
For my last moving I had to buy everything online because of COVID. All the stores were closed when I had to buy my furniture. So al my seats for the two tables I have are to low 😂 but because I could not send it back I now have low seats in my whole house 😅

Good question! So I knew for my mental sanity I wouldn't live at my parents for the whole time. If I lived there for like 6 months and saved money at the start of school then that would allow me to live on my own at the second half of my school experience which is what I'm doing. Also my parents live almost an hour away from my school so I needed to get closer because the traffic was making my late and driving me nuts 😂
I feel like the problem with the table is the shape of it. Maybe you should sell it and get more of a bar table and push it against the wall and put both chairs on one side

The other apartment was far away from school, didn’t have a place for me to have a desk, was a lot of money for zero amenities, and I thought hey might as well save money for six months and look for something better!
I’ve moved three times in college and twice after! It’s pretty normal to move a ton when you’re young and I’m happy for each place and it’s time in my life :)

Kiara see if the microwave has an undermount light on it to light up the stove. We leave ours on all the time. That way you have a light on in the kitchen when you get home.

I would say that the putting the table and chairs should be a future you problem. After the rest of the furniture is in; I bet it is going to make more sense on where to put it

My weirdest moving story is probably that because i’m not allowed to put anything on the walls/ceilings we had to be very creative to get my lightswing lamps screwed into the existing boxes in the ceiling instead of just screwing it into the ceiling 😂 took some hours instead of some minutes haha!

For my last moving I had to buy everything online because of COVID. All the stores were closed when I had to buy my furniture. So al my seats for the two tables I have are to low 😂 but because I could not send it back I now have low seats in my whole house 😅

Good question! So I knew for my mental sanity I wouldn't live at my parents for the whole time. If I lived there for like 6 months and saved money at the start of school then that would allow me to live on my own at the second half of my school experience which is what I'm doing. Also my parents live almost an hour away from my school so I needed to get closer because the traffic was making my late and driving me nuts 😂
I have no suggestions on moving. I'd love to have a shipping container. Then you could park the container close to your move.

I feel like the problem with the table is the shape of it. Maybe you should sell it and get more of a bar table and push it against the wall and put both chairs on one side

The other apartment was far away from school, didn’t have a place for me to have a desk, was a lot of money for zero amenities, and I thought hey might as well save money for six months and look for something better!

I’ve moved three times in college and twice after! It’s pretty normal to move a ton when you’re young and I’m happy for each place and it’s time in my life :)
