Today some mistakes were made that cost Leroy a whole run. That's pretty frustrating for all of us by myself especially. However, we did get a few good runs and successfully qualified with Leroy and Mullet! Let's go get a trophy tomorrow!

One of the jam nuts is loose on the first shift lever's clevis. You can see it jiggle throughout the entire pass at around 12:38. Looks like the one on gear four is also loose. Try some blue loctite to keep them in place. Excellent runs guys!

@@g32k Yeah those people doing donuts in the middle of busy intersections are not part of the car community. A take over in a Dodge charger is also not part of the car community. Other than the occasional loudmouth drunk, Drag racers are mostly respectful.
I love how Sam just jumps on making sure everything is completely spotless, that’s a huge deal when it comes to high performance stuff. Sam is a blessing and a half bro.
You guys NEED to put a pressure switch or an analog transducer in the CO2 line somewhere and program an alarm on the dash, it's already a couple times it happens...
or start using Egates and send co2 in the bin.

Being turned down, and relatively short shifted when it happened certainly helped it survive that
Add a warning light that lights up if the CO2 pressure is low. That lets you know both if the bottle is low and if you haven't turned on the bottle yet. Take that LEAN approach and add a safety if you encounter a problem, so it doesn't happen again.
Kinda surprised they haven't done something like this already as I'm pretty sure this has happened a few times before.
What do they use the CO2 for?? Why is it causing it to go slower??
@@martindworak They use it for the onboard sodastream machine, That way cleetus can get his mountain dew ready to drink when packing up the chute after a pass.

Yes but no, that was a different car. He got shot down after they cut it up so they bought another chassis.

@@RadDadisRadit's the same chassis, when Kevin started working on it he talked about having to adjust it because it was already being made for the jet. And he didn't get shot down, he changed his mind after Kat Moller died in a Larsen jet car

@@testarossagzb5582 he did talk briefly about it being not able to race at a lot of tracks because it would be a jet car. Maybe that added onto the aforementioned points you brought up as well. I was almost positive they got a new chassis because they cut and extended the el Camino for the jet engine and it was just too altered and he didn’t feel comfortable, I could be wrong.

God forbid they install $25 worth of sensors that will turn on a dummy light that says something is not at the right setting. For example; CO2 pressure below 10psi? = dummy light. Please at least someone write a checklist.
FFS airline pilots with 40 years experience are still required to use check lists for a reason.

Cleet, you need an itemized/sequential check list for every step if you don’t already have one. A systematic approach will help eliminate errors like leaving the CO2 off. Glad you boys won though!! Can’t wait to watch that video

Leroy used to have a "Turn on intercooler!" note written on a piece of tape. Perhaps it's time again.
Usually the one backing them in and lining them up does that stuff. Not cleetus crew, but i know other teams do

Do drivers have check lists in the vehicles similar to aircraft pilots? Seems like it could help with any forgotten steps like forgetting Co2. Love the channel, Do it for Dale!
Most drivers have a mental check list. Cleetus just has a bad habit of getting excited and crossing stuff off before he actually does it

I've always thought Holley was the shit, but Haltech is always doing so much to go above and beyond, and I've been watching them do it for like...I dunno, a decade now? Seriously impressive customer support
Fuel Tech is right up there as well. Holley is losing it's edge in my opinion.

But if you want the support from dedicated pros who ONLY do that one thing, go with Haltech or FuelTech. At least that is what I have noticed across dozens of builder/racers who share their race programs on youtube.

Electric solenoid valve on the c02 bottle as well as a pressure alarm. Wire the solenoid valve to be controlled by the ECU. Never forget it again.

Locknuts with a shoulder. Designed to be "loose" but are actually tight. If there was no shoulder the shifters wouldnt move
@@robbygray9562I think you missed which one he's talking about. Look at the jam nut on the lever for the 1-2 shift. It moves towards the lever until it bottoms out against the other end.

As far as the C02 mishap being a pilot myself I would definitely have a preflight checklist to go over before takeoff on a laminated card of some kind to do every single time.

Mullet was never getting into the 5s with a G-body chassis & suspension, that setup has been on borrowed time from the moment the SMX was dropped in lol

The look on Cleetus's face when he looked at McFlurry's oil cap and saw there wasn't anything wrong with it. But he held his cool even tho' he knew at that moment that there was only one reason that oil cap was lying on the frame-rail. That could be a very costly or very dangerous mistake.

I agree with commenters suggesting Mullet be used just for Drag and Drive... technically still needs rear suspension and rear end work though. Both KSR and SM have pointed that out in videos.

Might be worth looking at getting a motor block heater unit for some of your drag fleet. A lot of oval track guys in the Northeast use them in the early spring mid-late fall events when temps are chilly. Its essentially a portable oil pan heater to help oil flow through the block on cold starts. Might be slightly easier than tripping the breaker in the trailer trying to run a heater all night.
Garrett you are far from an idiot. You have the best team any captain could ask for and the best fleet of cars any team could want. Along with a bad ass set of drivers between you and jackstand. When all the testing and tuning is said and done you will be a force to be reckoned with in the drag racing world. Keep up the awesome content we love it.

Seems like valve springs might be a problem on SMX even if Steve swears it isn't. This is probably the fifth broken valve spring we've seen in the past few months on various engines.

I too once had quality hearing... LOL. Now I'm 35 with tinnitus and not-spectacular hearing, it isn't bad though. After a number of front rows at big metal concerts, doing race car stuff, working in manufacturing with a loud ass pellet mill(those pellets for your pellet smoker? That kinda stuff, but for industrial/commercial use; obnoxiously loud, high pitched, dusty ass things), I finally woke up in my mid-20s and started being much more aware of my hearing. Still a little too late though(tinnitus is pretty annoying, but not the end of the world).
Another one to watch out for if you ride motorcycles - wear earplugs if you don't because there's wind noise that's above the pitch we can hear that will damage your hearing over time
