    Matthew, I feel so blessed to have discovered you on RUclips! I love your teaching style and have been binge watching your videos the last couple of days. I stopped doing watercolor many years ago (switched to acrylics) but my heart yearns to start again! Have watched so many other tutorials but yours are definitely the very best I have seen. Thank you so much, and may your channel grow with leaps and bounds!!! Greetings from South Africa.

    Hey Matt, recently found your terrific videos. I've traveled to painting classes in Europe searching for the magic and have not touched a brush since. You've inspired me to start again. Thanks so much!

    I first learned about this approach from Andy Evansen, but your explanation of how to do it makes the whole idea so much more approachable. You made the goals and techniques of the first wash very clear. Thank you!

    What about the pencil marks you've made, if you're going to go in and wet the paper with a sponge first- isn't there a risk of losing the sketched part? Special pencil to be used, in this case..? :)

      Good question. No special pencil. It does smear a little but not too bad really. I try to draw just a little firmer than I typically do.

    Thanks for the tutorial Matthew, I learned a lot from your videos. Here I have a question, when you say 'paint a local color', what is it mean? Thanks Matthew 💝

  • @michelleloftus6990
    @michelleloftus6990 3 года назад +1

    So Matthew, do you let the first wash dry completely, before you do the next part?

  • @pamelathomas2723
    @pamelathomas2723 Год назад +1

    Matthew what do you mean by “local color”?

    • @learntopaintwatercolor
      @learntopaintwatercolor  Год назад

      The lightest colors of everything around the scene. I may glaze over shadows or darken in later washes but I want to establish the light values and colors in the first wash.
