"No rosewood was harmed in the making of this instrument.."! Great sense of humour, as always, and great sense of realism. I'm a bit concerned at people calling you a cheapskate, and the guitars featured as firewood. The channel is based on reviewing budget, or value, guitars, and always has been, so for you to be fielding such comments is unfair and downright outrageous. Even going back to your (broken) Epiphone Flying V/Explorer, videos, where you criticise the company for their pricing, wasn't that a rather large clue as to the channel's main focus. Don't pay any attention to these naysayers - we watch because you review the gear without fear or favour (mostly), and with a sense of humour and realism, returning to my original point. Keep on keeping on!

CNC, and china CAN make great gear, just ask them to tighten quality. Its why I laugh at people that will only buy UK made celestions. Would love to support my own country, but everyone is too busy tripping everyone else on a downward spiral than trying to raise all boats.

While some may complain, I think a majority of your fans like the very low cost guitar reviews. I believe that there are a lot of players and aspiring players who would like to expand their horizons but would struggle to afford a $400+ guitar. Thanks as always.

Yeah, that Prince video is amazing and I was always more a George Harrison fan than John or Paul through my life. The price of a standard model by Gibson or Fender is just insane and I love the fact you show these types of models as they just get better in quality each passing year.

  • @-processdrone-
    @-processdrone- 5 месяцев назад +6

@18:45 we both flinched at exactly the same time. I 've tried cheaper guitars that get T-style neck sound way better than that, I'm really working hard not to do youtube style tirade here. To keep it short ; that neck pickup made me sad, can't pick out any likeable characteristics beyond it being functional.
Eastcoast are still winning the budget market for me, and I'd just like to thank you for doing a series on guitars more people can actually go and buy. You're serving a bigger community by covering this area and I appreciate it a lot.

Ascetically it’s a pretty tele 🤔 Pick ups seem to have a fuller tone compared to The Harley Benton to my ear, however my Te62 db arrived from Thoman this week, sounds great and has a flawless neck and finish and it’s unreal value at £145 delivered! Defo gonna mod it 👍and the best bit is it’s half a stone lighter than the Te52 I bought last year 😂 I’m still keeping it for my headstone tho 😂😂😂 cheers Col 🍻

It looks good and the price is right, but what really gets me is that it actually sounds good. It's a very 'vintage' sound, but then surely if one is buying a 'rosewood' tele, then that's probably what one wants anyway. I wonder where my nearest pmt is lol - need to try before I buy 'cos the feel of the neck is the all important thing, and what floats one guys boat might sink mine. Good one Colin !

PMT are a pretty good business, have bought from them a few times online and visited their shops, always great service. Thing is at this price you can get one and mod the hell out of it, paint it put stickers on it, even gig with it without the worry of devaluing. great vid Collin! Like your playing too mate! Cheers.

The thing you were saying about the big boys watching their prices is spot on. Gibson is doing their best to move Epiphone into the $1000-2000 range. As long as they all have Gibson parts and electronics I don't care, but I dunno that I'm daft enough to believe that'll happen. Cheers, homie!

I recently got back in to playing after a 30 year break, I'm not good, I can play some chords, learning picking etc. I've always loved the Tele style, and seeing as I had a Tanglewood Strat copy already that I took out of storage which doesn't play all that well, I bought a Squier Tele (in butterscotch blonde) for under £150. It's made me fall in love with playing again, and didn't cost the earth. I have a feeling I'll be buying more "budget" guitars now :D I do love the look of that Fauxwood TL1, I think it would go nicely next to the Squier :D

Hiya mate, my mate won one of the from PMT about a year ago. Really good all round guitar. Only thing is. I’d say revisit the guitar if you still have it in about 6 months…
At some point the fingerboard shrank and it got quite bad fret sprout all over the neck - presumably because it’s budget the wood doesn’t get given the same amount of time to dry out.

When I first saw the video upon release I was very impressed with this guitar, its a bit of a looker! I then forgot all about it, I have looked on their website and they do it with a different colour neck now I don't know whether to look for a used one with the black neck or order the different one and a replacement bridge, I don't like the modern bridges, I prefer the original Fender ashtray type bridge with the ashtray cover and compensated brass saddles, I have also saved the Gotoh version of that bridge in my basket for this guitar, I am going to 3D print a scratchplate with a Red, Black, Blue Indian Mandala design on the top with a 4 ply design.
Colin, If you still have yours and want to sell it, I am your Man!

Love this! It's a good thing it's not all rosewood because it would probably weigh 12 lbs. IVY sells some nice budget guitars in the U.S. on Amazon. They are made in Vietnam. Allinoneguitars sells the AIO / Wolf brand in the States and I believe those are made in the same factory. They have some nice Tele's, with Abalone inlays and different pickup configurations. All around $500 U.S. Well made. And they ask your setup preference before shipping. They also have other models as well. The budget guitar market certainly has come a long way.

I’ve got to agree with the people saying to ignore the people making snooty comments about reviewing cheap guitars. I’ve got to wonder if the people moaning are new to your channel because I’ve been following you for a while and you’ve always reviewed a range of guitars from a few properly expensive ones down to cheap as chips ones.
It’s fascinating to see your opinion of a properly expensive guitar but, even if I could afford one, frankly I’m not a good enough player to remotely justify the expense. I’ve got an Epiphone Les Paul and a Jet telecaster, both of which were influenced by your reviews. I went for the £300 Jet JT350 rather than the cheaper model you reviewed but it was only on my radar because of you.
Keep doing what you’re doing Colin and ignore the whingers!

Nice! £179 makes this a good alternative to Harley Benton for Brits- might even be made in the same S.E. Asian factories as HB. I guess the price might be around $200 or so if these were readily available in the States, putting the TL-1 in the Squier Bullet/Sonic range. If so, I bet they'd sell very well here against Squier. The dark satin finish looks good and it sounds surprisingly good too, especially in the bridge and middle switch positions. As you said, the neck position is a little "wooly" but a little eq or stepping on a pedal could brighten that up. Or maybe install a P90 or splittable humbucker? Thanks Colin, enjoyed this, cheers from Dallas.

The pickups sound pretty dull, but nothing that couldn't be replaced with a set of Toneriders for ~ £60-70

Harley Benton used to do a model that had a rosewood veneer from and back. I really liked it, but didn't get one in time.

@ 3:00 or thereabouts. Agreed my friend! I think guitar players need at least three guitars.
A trophy guitar - on basis look what I got!
A day-to-day guitar - based on I wonder if I twiddle this, tweak that and ... but no way will I do that to my trophy guitar
    and
family entertain ment around campfire bbq ... coastal day out ... (preferably nylon strung so as not to disturb similar adventurers) as it avoids trophy damage cables kit noise levels on both trophy and day2day (hmmm should I copyright that 🙂)

Colin, I can't understand why people complain about you featuring guitars, like this. Yes, they are made for folks who are beginners, have little money, or both. However, by upgrading the hardware and electronics, and even paying to have the work done, A very high quality guitar can, sometimes, be had for less than 1/2 the cost of a Gibson or Fender. You have even done that yourself, ending up with several guitars that played and sounded as good or better than their expensive counter parts.
I guess, the complaining must come from folks who have grown long noses, from looking down them at guitars like this.
By all means review a few more PMT"S, like their SG, since you are a big SG fan, and maybe even tweak one up a bit. Now, that could be fun. and drive the "long noses" to distraction too, HA, HA ;-)

At least the control cavity is routed in the right place unlike the Harley Benton. I wait to see if the tuners are better too. My HB is appalling on both counts.

Hi Colin I have one, got it last year 149 quid then. I put it up against my Fender Standard and found it to sound just as good ! So had to watch this of course and I completely agree with you. However I later bought the KR one from them nah sent it back sadly one day will scrub the name from the headstock. You should do the SG as I 'm anSG nut like you. There is some relation between SG's and Teles....... must be the tone.

Nice one Col, you're so right, it is wot it is. In my early career I remember buying my first electric guitar, the Audition by Woolys, (Woolworths) (who else started on it too.????) then moving up market ( so I thought) to the dizzy heights of my £40 Avon SG.. The Audition was a finger shredder with one inch action, 😂 the Avon SG was like a guitar equivalent of decaf coffee? I wish back then I could have accessed one of these cheapies you are showcasing so brilliantly,, so todays starters wont feel so bloody uesless like the rest of us who in our teens, struggled to get through a 3 minute song without needing plasters afterwards😂😂😂😂 cheers Col, laters😊

I got this 3 months ago and absolutely love it. Finish is amazing, fretboard is great (not just for a £180 guitar), rounded edges along neck and no sharp frets. 2 things that could be better : the neck pickup and the switches feel a little cheap as you said. Love it though! Thanks for the review!!

@@dimitris70 hello, yes, 6 months or so. I’ve found it to be very good for me. A friend of mine is a professional guitarist and he tried a few budget guitars out for me and said this is the one he’d get. It is definitely a beginner guitar though!

Very nice guitar for the price. That ashtray needs to go though. If pots and control plate changed as well that guitar may be a real winner. For what you pay for it it's a must own.
