- Adventure riding is different especially if you came from riding street bikes. Riding my new KLR650 adventure bike for a month now has taught me a few lessons and clearly shown me what is different. Let's discuss my adventure riding lessons together.

Back roads, Forest Service roads and just cruising along at your own pace is a blast on a KLR. I did not realize it would be so fun. Thanks.
I totally agree and that’s the exact reason I bought this bike. Tons of fun.
I had the same problem with the shift lever. I removed it, cut it in half, welded a 1.5" piece in, and it works like a charm.
Great idea Mark
Thanks for such a positive outlook on the KLR! I get weary of all the negative nit-picking reviews. I picked up a '23 KLR this spring. Thought 1k miles/year would be about it for this bike - will be putting to bed for the winter in the next couple of weeks with 2500 miles on the clock. I bought the Adventure model but if I were to do it again, I'd go for the base and maybe spend the difference at Happy Trails & other suppliers. Thanks again.
You bet and though I had an issue or two, it is all fixed and I love it! Always wonder about those that complain if they ever rode one? Shame we both have winter coming, hope it goes fast!
You hit the nail on the head with these 5 topics and even the bonus! Great seeing you out there finding new roads. That is what it is all about. Ride Safe.
Thanks, my friend, your influence has helped
JNS peg lowing kit and news pegs, you WILL be happy. I have them on my gen3
How has the lowering kit helped? I did already get out those stock pegs, they did not work well for me. Still having a challenge getting my size 13 under the shifter with riding boots
Same issue and jns with new pegs fixed problem. Also made accessing rear brake more ergonomic.
99504 miles on my KLR and i love to get lost
that's amazing miles, no one can ever say you don't ride. Good to know how long they can last!
Good point on the 2nd. Ive had my first raod/adventure bike and im super comfortable on the gravel roads but stilll getting use to and working on my technique for the sealed roads.. only had it 1 month and really enjoying it done 2 rides so far and done 450km. 150km was on gravel. Was awsome. Like a big dirtbike oh its a 2007 klr and not sure if I Wana upgrade to the new one as doesn't really offer enough and a few things I don't like. . 5 speed box. Amd if you want abs which we have to have in NZ seems it's full-time. And being an off road rider it's a deal breaker for me I think
I totally get what you’re saying is somebody who’s been riding street bikes, I need to learn to be better here
Love Michigan back roads. Maybe if we ever move back that way ill have to add one of these to the stable.
You guys like it out there or ever thought about coming back?
@Bodeans Adventures I think about it. Especially after this last trip back to see our new granddaughter. Miss the green. The job isn't what I thought it would be and I'm pretty unhappy with it. The Mrs loves it down here. 😀
I'm 61 and had bilateral knee replacements and love getting out in the bush on my 2004 model with 32,00 k's. Fred Australia
Great Fred, I am 59 and hopefully have many more years of riding
Thats the one thing that I love about the ADV bike...especially where I live....there are so many dirt roads literally right at my doorstep...its actually tuff to decide which one to take!...great video...thanks for sharing...stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
It’s funny how I look at the roads differently now since I have an ADV while in my truck 👍
I bought a 2008 klr as my first bike. Love it. Just wish Kawa would release the new klr in my country😢
They are fun bikes, what country are you in?
@@bodeanaventures South Africa, which for some bizarre reason has adopted EU standards for gas (petrol) so the latest klr is not compatible 🤔
@@Michael-hm8cs That sucks!! Cheers!!!
When you start aiming for gravel scattered on the pavement, then the disease has taken full control✌😆
Not there yet, but already thinking about it when I’m riding. That’s funny you say that.
Great vid! Im gettin new skins on mine tomorrow, 2200 miles and the OEM'S are toast. Your right, Ive had Harleys and everything in between but my KLR is the most fun Ive had on 2 wheels! Always lookin for that road I havent been on.......👍
You sound a lot like me there, William. Good to know how many miles you got on them, what are you putting on?
@@bodeanaventures I had 2300 miles on the stock tires and the rear was really squared off. I ride mostly paved roads and gravel when I can find it so I needed a 80/20 tire. Went with Shinko 705's. I'll be breaking them in today!
I got ya ... and subbed ya here too... I was on my 900# SG enduro here in the mountians of western NC today
Must be amazing riding?
@bodeanaventures kinda scarey.... broke my back in 2018...LOTS OF METAL IN MY BACK... I DO NOT BOUNCE ANYMORE
🛑🛑 Bob…are the Adventure Riding Trail Parks, in your area?
I would interested in how the bike performs on trails. 💯
I am still in search of many roads and some like that Gene. I’ll never be a dirtbike rider, but some trails would be cool for sure.
I feel your pain Bob, also being from the big boot brigade. After riding Harleys those little control take a lot of getting used too. Good luck with the boots 😎👌
Thank you, sir, and I will figure it out
On my adventure bike I eat up a lot of miles going to destinations. I don't want an enduro bike. Would you say the KLR is comfortable for 250 mile rides?
I am not sure yet James, do not have any long rides on it yet. Will update you when I do though!
@@bodeanaventures Thanks 👍
How many miles on your KLR? Have you done the doohickey mod?
700 and not yet, you?
Thank you for metioning the big feet problem not enough people talk about it😂 ive been seriously considering this bike but i wear a size 15 in mens so its good to know ill need some extenders🤣🤣
No doubt, but there are some lowering kits that actually help. Good luck.
Brilliant vid pal 👏
Appreciate that sir!
I have a size 15 boot and have NEVER had a problem shifting.
Riding boots?
all fair points . i think you'll be getting some boots in the near future 😁
That’s a for sure
Why don't you raise the shift lever up a notch?
Not enough but picked up a extension one I will install
Raising the shift lever isn't a good option. I kept hitting neutral when I raised it a little.
Last night I moved it back down and no problems now but can be a little tricky getting under it. I did install the tusk longer lever to. First mod I did.
@@ZenithClarity That's an odd thing to happen, it must be just how you jive with the bike. Levers and such on a bike are meant to be moved and adjusted to fit riders individual-ness..
@@ZenithClarity have the happy trail ones I will install tomorrow finger 🤞🏻
@@painsrides it gets to a point when adjusted too much they no longer function correctly. It's all about angles 🍺
So funny thing. I'm in my late 30's not trying to say anything their about age but since you mentioned your age and outlook just from my perspective and yours by the way nice bike and little short video and thankyou for sharing. but to get back on track. Three weeks ago one of my best childhood friends mentioned to me how he was thinking about getting a dual sport bike. Not knocking him I'm thinking in the back of my mind why in the world would he be thinking about getting a bike like that lol. I'm thinking about a dirt bike doing jumps and you know stuff like that. I'm like if I'm feeling the way I am just starting to feel now what would possess you to want to start doing stuff like that now. So anyway I started helping him do research on duel sport bikes and the more I researched it the more I really want to get one. then a week later I see a brand new KLR same thing as yours at work. I have never even seen or heard of a KLR before. But I'm sold I'm pretty sure that is what my next bike will be.
What a great story and I think it’s easy to think about adventure bikes as dirt bikes. For me, it’s what type of roads do you want to ride them on. Dirt roads and some trail riding here is what I wanted it for but that single track jumps and stuff like that is definitely not for me. Good luck on your choice. I think you’ll like it.
I’ve had about 5 bikes now and it’s legit my favorite bike. Granted it’s not great on road and not great off-road, but I swear it’s legit fun. It’s bizarre I can’t explain it. For highway I did the sprocket upgrade upfront for lower rpm’s at 75. It helped a lot. I also tried the other sprocket to do wheelies. It was just fun. I miss it but I really want sport bike. A Busa. 😂
The older I get, the less I like people lol. Truth
Sometimes I say crap out loud 😂
