    Johnny Johnson and his Orchestra
    Vic 22493-B
    (78 rpm record)
There was a lot of groove damage on this one so the first 30 seconds or so is kind of rough. I also used Audacity software to splice out several really stubborn clicks which Vinyl Studio didn’t seem to get rid of. It’s not perfect, but I think it sounds alright now.
I have had some bad experiences with some Victor records where there has been some distortion, and had difficulty minimizing it - I don’t know why!
Secondhandsongs.com gives the following information on Johnson:
“…Pianist, organist, composer and big band bandleader, who made dozens of recordings between 1923 and 1936. In the late 1940s Johnson withdrew from the music business and started teaching piano in New Jersey…”
Johnson & Shirley (American Dance Bands on Records and Film 1915 - 1942) don’t give any information on him or his band at all, but they do provide the following personnel:
Johnny Johnson (piano, director); Unknown and Harry McDaniel (trumpet and violin); unknown trombone; Fred Kintz (clarinet, alto sax); Al Miller (alto sax); John Wright (clarinet, tenor sax); unknown banjo and brass bass; Bob Treaster (drum, vocal). Recorded in New York, July 21, 1930.
