So happy to hear freelancing stories. And having conversations about burn out. This industry is an adventure and it’s hard to navigate. Thanks for sharing.
Best of luck, Maroš! I'm quite familiar with the feeling of burnout myself, so it's wonderful to hear you've found something you love doing. I'm looking forward for your updates! 🙂 Keep going strong! 💪
Thank you very much, Martin! 🙏 Burnout is definitely a serious issue in our industry and it's very easy to not even be aware that it's there. Good luck with your journey as well!
Negative colleges seem to be common. I think these corporate environments frustrate so many that burnout is just inevitable. I was burnt out for at least a year after my last engineering job of 4 years too.
I'm a SE student willing to learn about ML but im bad or don't have much foundation with maths. But finally i decided to change my course from SE degree to DS. Feels hard when knowing that im going to say good bye with my classmates and also have to start my new journey alone. I'm just nothing without religion.
This is food for my soul and this keep me dreaming on my side projects. Sometimes I think how Life goes fast, I’ve already worked for 5 years as a software engineer and I feel something must change. In italy salaries are so low and the trap is to be closed in the circle of comfort zone where the price of living is year after year not worth for the beauty of staying. Thsnks for sharing your experience.
Hey there, I did the same last year and still going through this process. It's not easy but I am loving this so far, learning new things everyday. Wish we can all form a group to gain from each others struggles and experiences.
I have utmost respect for your decision and your way. For several months I've been hearing the voice in my head that I dream about developing my own side project. But I'm still scared to start. :/
Considering leaving medicine; which is hard after spending 13,5 years burning myself out for it. I still have 5,5 years left until "the good life".... But I don't have a lot of alternatives, medicine is nisched.
Not really 🤔 I am not selling any courses. And even if I might at some point do a course, I wouldn't do just another iOS course just to rip somebody off. It would have to be different in some way from all other courses out there.
Always rooting for you my friend! I made the same decision to chase my dream project in the beginning of 2023. I had burned out after 2 months, took 2 months off and started over but on a more sustainable basis. If I would do it again, I would do it in a similar fashion to yours, which is that the project needs to support me financially already. At the moment, I am working part-time + working on my dream project for the remaining time. I want to note one important thing which is that no matter what happens, the biggest success is that of what you become while chasing your dream. What you have decided to do is definitely a harder path to take and I am pretty sure you already see transformative results in your life. On a side note, I would be very curious to know your biggest WHY for choosing Trading Tracker as a project worth pursuing. Is the main reason the problem you had with trading back in the days? I could imagine that could be great source of motivation. Just curious, feel free to ignore! Thanks for inspirational content and wish you the best luck Maros!
Thank you my friend! You're absolutely right about the fact that no matter if I fail or not, it's already a great thing that I tried. I believe that this step will form me in a different sort of way and opens yet another door I can explore. Your story is yet another example of how important it is to find the right balance between chasing and pursuing your dreams and your work/life. Regarding your question, I would be more than happy to talk to you about this! Let's connect on Twitter and meet on a call if you're up for it!
I also got burned out and at the core I am a hardcore esports and AAA title gamer. I got into the industry to earn money, not to say I don't enjoy coding. Coding is my second most loved hobby but work life sucks for me. So after earning so much I brought a 4k usd pc and now I will be paying some good freelancers to grow my channel and become a full time gamer. I will not leave coding though as it's also my hobby. I will continue to solve ds algo, build web projects time to time and also learn AI on the side as completely leaving coding might be a bad idea. But yeah for now I am done. The main thing is I hate being ordered around, I hate being questioned abt. I don't want to answer some random managers every day. I will be my own leader😤
I totally see your point and I feel the same! For me, the idea of exchanging my time for money does not make sense right now. There are so many options how to disconnect the time from money and I would like to try to find what works for me in the long run.
Hey Maros. Wish you a luck with indie apps. It's really a hard decision to quit the stable income job . Keep it up with RUclips, and looking forward to see your new product
you probably need to deep dive on the root cause of your burnouts, with personal projects this may eventually happen as well. better to establish balanced routine and work-partime and chase your dreams with side hustle projects.
That's for sure the correct approach. And that's actually what I did. I've been trying to find the root cause of this for many months until I came to the decision to quit my job. You see, with all mental stuff, one cannot be100% sure at any given time. So I am approaching this with curiosity and I am interested what this step will do with my mental state and productivity. Maybe I'll find out in a year that I burnt out again and the job was not the root cause. Let's see...
Good luck from 4 times burned out dev! From my experience, burns are pretty similar, and I need just 1-2 month out of code to recover. And a side project is always a reason of burning from the first place. But I just can't live without one. So my 4-th burnout I've got from 2 years fulltime side project developing.
@@thisismaros Hopefully, your projects will be just cool adventure! Recovery process is pretty simple in my case : I don't want to see a code (4-6 weeks phase) -> I'm starting to get interested in watching some tech videos (1-2 weeks phase) -> I'm hungry to writing code again. Socializing, entertaining activities, relax time are nice catalysts, but only time without stress and brain activity is essential in my case.
I know it might sound confusing for people just getting into development. In my case, I am not quitting software :) I am just quitting my full-time job so I can build software on my own and try to make money that way. Good luck with your studies!
@@thisismaros Thanks a lot for your advice🙏, for your quick reply as well. I am an adventure loving guy. I also love to sit and just talk with peoples on many ideas, that's just my passion. But now I'm fearing that I will lose those passions in this career.
after watching your video I am also thinking that I am learning web dev what will be my future there are thousands of people there who are better most like are moving out from it . this thing burning you inside and out Damn it
You see, the main reason why I burnt out is that I took more than I can chew for a long period of time. I was working full-time, building my app on the side, then started working on more and more apps, tried to build my social media, and so on. And this whole thing just collapsed on me. If you'll be careful and will be focusing on just one thing at the time, you'll be fine! Just keep pursuing your web development journey. Best of luck!

Burn out is a serious issue in this industry and it's very important to talk about it and be aware that it can come easier than most of us think.

Good luck, seems like a good plan and probably the most fulfilling thing you can do. Greetings from Münster!
Thank you! Fulfilment is the thing I missed while working for someone else.
@@thisismarosyeah same, I only get that from working at startups as early employee or own ventures.
What kind of Freelance development did you do and how did you get contracts ?
I worked as an iOS developer on a long-term contract :)

Hope everything works out! You inspire me to continue with my side project even more :D
