  • The military has had a issue with steroids for quite some time now... But, the DOD has decided to come down hard, starting with the Navy Seals. Its really just a matter of time before all service members are tested. But you should not be doing steroids anyways, and here's why. I DO NOT CONDONE THE USE OF STEROIDS, PERIOD.

@@GrittySoldier Its proven that PED's are beneficial and harmless when it comes to specific cases when doctors are monitoring blood, liver, kidney levels, etc. Just look at people such as "burn victims." As long as it's for the "job" and not for Bodybuilding purposes, I'm good for it. Should the military look into/condone PED's once an individual has passes selection? I'm not saying required, but if those individuals who "made it" into higher tiers wanted to keep their edge, should they be given a pass? To me it makes sense if they're under "doctors care."

It's a double edged sword however. It can cause other medical issues and mental impacts. SOF's advantage in theater isn't just their sheer strength but in their mental abilities and training. I never understood the penalisation of PED's in the Army. When I was in the British Army, our airborne brigade was randomly steroid tested and 16 guys immediately lost their jobs/career. The reason PED's are banned in the Olympics is because it's unnatural, and thus it's cheating. Warfare isn't a race, it's life and death, if you're able to maximise your abilities and thus increase the chance of survival, why not?
I do appreciate that habitual steroid usage is bad for your health and shouldn't be done. But for units that are deployed frequently and are at high-readiness, I think steroid use should be allowed on an individually elected basis. SOF units, high-readiness and units preparing for deployment should be given carte blanche to do whatever is necessary to be at optimum performance when entering the warzone.
I'd rather juice up and survive then fight fair and die.

I never understand why no one wants to invest in making steroids safer and healthy. The majority abuse them and they don't have the clearest idea how to use them. If proper cycling is used it does provide an edge and you still need to put in effort. The mindset of "I'm proud being natty" is a pointless argument to make especially in combat. When you're in combat, you need to outperform the enemy physically; it's not about being prideful, it's about survival. Imagine the enemy taking steroids and they kill you by outperforming you; at least you died being natty. War is not about being fair.

But I was struggling with low test symptoms for 10+yrs. When I was going through middle school, high school and now college I have been in chronic pain, had no sex drive, erectile dysfunction, depression, extremely easily injured etc. I don’t consider my self cheating because all my trt is doing is getting me into the normal range. I do think there is a place for testosterone usage in cases like my own. I mean only if you had true low t and felt all the misery that comes with it, only then can you understand. I agree further study into the usage of “gear” should occur, also agree there are many negative side effects. The same could be said of other drugs pushed/available to military members (too many to name).

Especially for SOF operators, and especially at the tier one level where the op-tempo is absolutely ridiculous. The main issue I forsee would be the fact that the stigma around PED's is such that there haven't been any long term studies (that I'm aware of) on their effectiveness and long-term side-effects in a way that would allow us to innovate in producing compounds that are safer and have better overall long-term viability. As well, the logistics of getting them to a combat zone, and administering them. Just my 0.02, so take it for what you will.

BUDs candidate dies during training, and then they find bottles in his pickup.... I believe HGH. Questions remain if those bottles were prescribed or not. Politicians and brass lose their ever living minds, Operators get tested. Women decide that they want to become a man, they get similar PEDs via HRT/TRT, no deployments nor PT tests and cheered as heroes. HRT and TRT have actually been shown to be beneficial with proper credentialed medical supervision, like an endocrinologist, in conjunction with proper lifestyle changes. Typically, this approach includes monthly to quarterly labs, and then follow ups with the credentialed medical providers for males who's T-level are below 300 nd/dL, and in most case around age 35 or older... This typically is the right about the administrative and senior leader roles, and preretirement, for AD, Guard, and Reserves components. If anything, given the ACFT scoring for those in their 20's versus 40's, as part of the annual PHA there should be Tlevel testing in conjunction with the metabolic panels in the later career years. Anecdotal, but if Lyle Alzado hadn't been using dirty needles nor had a higher cancer risk factor then the very same politicians wouldn't have lost their minds back in the 1980s. Anecdotal, secondary, it was interesting when I had a similar conversation with my VHA PCP informing that I like being male then asking if it would be easier to get HRT for female hormones or TRT to help with trying to stave off the 45-year-old body aches and pains... Two second pause, then he ordered the TLevel labs then informed that a specialist would handle the TRT, if indicated... And, you guessed it, 400 nd/dL lab results.

One thing I agree with you strongly on, they will be finding a significant majority of the special operations community is using gear. This testing will likely fall off the map when the come to the conclusion that you can’t kick out every SOF guy on gear. They wouldn’t be mission capable.

PED affects people mentally, they multiply everything including your mental traumas. At the end of the day, the army owns you and they don't want to make a bad investments. I absolutely understand the pov some people have that being bigger and stronger is a boon in battle and therefore should be allowed, but those people entirely miss the point here. What happens when your "super soldiers" lose access to their gear on missions? What happens when the drug use causes a soldier to tear a tendon or otherwise fuck up his connective tissue because he was made blind to his own condition? Steroids are a net negative. Yes you get strong soldiers, but it makes them _unreliable_ .

    • @tappaiden
      @tappaiden 7 дней назад

I replied to another comment like this, but tearing of a tendon or any other sort of sports injury typically related to steroids is usually because of the compounds, nutrition, hydration, and most importantly the training of the individual. A SOF guy isn’t going to tear a pec out of nowhere because he’s on gear, a torn pec is because some dude decided he was ready for a 500lb bench press and his body wasn’t. On the reliability of soldiers in the field, that’s really just a matter of coordinating the joes to not be blasting while on an FTX or mission. Steroid administration is at most a biweekly thing if done responsibly, and that’s during what’s called a blast, which wouldn’t make any sense in the field anyway because there’s not enough calories nor PT to support muscle growth. Even so, I don’t think the mission would be compromised by dudes carrying a vial of test, a couple antiseptic wipes, and a needle kit in their ruck. If anything, by having a stabilized and scheduled hormone profile while on deployment, there might a reduction in cases of depression and/or self harm, because oftentimes hormonal imbalance by lack of testosterone is what causes depression in men.

PEDs should be used in the military WITH MEDICAL SUPERVISION. Steroid's main benefit is muscle recovery, which allows dudes to work out a lot more frequently than dudes who are all natural. This becomes a lot more beneficial with age.
But the side effects leave dudes on PEDs with shorter lifespans. Also, ligaments don't keep up with major muscle groups and are prone to tearing, which means dudes on PEDs will have more joint problems than those who are not. Also, heart problems are a major issue and is often a factor in the shorter lifespan of dudes on PEDs.
Not to mention the other hormonal side effects such as hair loss on head, acne, development of breasts, shrinkage of balls, and the wide mood swings that would lead to more criminal problems for the force.
Hence the medical supervision is a requirement.

A lot of dudes are avoiding the street steroids by going to some doctor (a "doc in the box" who gives you want) and getting on prescription T. No dirty batches and medically controlled so dudes have a lower chance of blowing out their kidneys. I can imagine that's going to be a bigger thing in those fields if the DoD wants to maintain the expensive steroid tests.

  • @bdd7881

The idea that SOF's only advantage is their physical ability is wrong. The impacts from PEDs extend beyond just physical strength and that is where the danger lies. Even with medical oversight it can become a problem very quickly. Starting PEDs after screening/selection is also an issue because you selected this person and now you're altering them in such a way that it can completely change the person in attitude and abilities to where they are no longer a match and create tension in the group, blowing hundred of thousands of dollars.

The steroids people think of made famous by body builders and athletes alike, don’t “make you stronger” they help in recovery. If you could only train a muscle group once a week naturally, PEDs will help you recover faster where you could train that muscle group twice, maybe three times. Yes large amounts of PEDs wil grow your heart, the heart after all is a muscle. Like so many others have said, the DOD should be bringing in civilian Drs to help our fighting force safely use PEDs to help with their recovery.
