the way the recon/engineer should work together to have a decent bonus would be. pld = laser lock on, so flares should NOT affect the rocket. they are going for laser not heat. any 'laser' lock hits even if flared, only thing to help it would be ecm jammer to take longer to lock on, time to duck into cover
In my opinion the Law and SRAW are the most useful / versatile launchers for taking out vehicles. The Law is the most consistent since you just have to aim in the general area. The SRAW can be manually guided to its destination even if your target moves and can one hit choppers. Know this, the RPG does not always one hit choppers, I've gotten quite a few mobility hits and they just fly away. That being said, I usually use the RPG, just because it's badazz.
Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at. There's no escaping the hit either, your indication time is so fast there's no way to use your countermeasure to avoid damage. The air vehicles would be useless (I mean the airplanes kind of already are only useful as kill farmers) but the transport chopper and other helicopters would never be viable, even for pros
The laser nerf seems really stupid in all honesty. At least in BF3 when you disabled a vehicle, it had to get repaired or the pilot had to use extinguishers or that was GG. Now if so long as you just don't crash/die any vehicle will regen back to full if you don't finish it off. Not only is that stupid for a number of unrelated reasons, but it just makes the reduced laser-lock damage all the more insulting - especially when an unguided RPG/SMAW shot still 1-shots aircraft. Funny detail: The SRAW one hit kills a helo when 'hand guided', but when laser designated... One hit disable. :) I think they said locked rockets will now only result in a disable in all occasions (from full health), so that the pilots have a chance to use their extinguishers. Yeap, just because people were complaining that flying is too hard when you actually die from 2 people co-operating in a pretty lengthy operation to take you out.
I don't freaking understand why commander isn't on conquest. It would be a lot more fun and balancing. Edit: I also don't understand why the Javelin doesn't one hit helicopters anymore. It's a huge rocket and it's not like that was op since you had to have a recon lock on for you.
The things you can do with team work...:) The launchers have been nerf so badly, they should do around 45 dam max... That way you can take down a chop in 2-3 shots... Rockets should only do as much damage as an assault rifle would for two bullets, and NO MORE. Indeed, this is the most agreeable thing in the world. It indeed needs to take every rocket you have to take down a heli or tank even though, in real life (which this game's weapons are based off of the stats of the real counterparts of these guns), a rocket can pretty much one-shot any vehicle in the world. But no, let's ignore that and nerf them so hard that heli pilots can get away with anything now and so that an entire squad would need to fire an SRAW at a tank at the same time to take it out. Stingers are still spammed. You shouldnt be able to refil their ammo and you should only get about 2 missiles with them cause they disable vehicles in 2 hits. (Athough in real life one missile would destroy a chopper or a jet) They should also have a much longer reload time cause helicopters and jets have no chance if someone starts spamming missiles at you. Or what they could do is make the stinger and igla weapons you find on the ground and then make them a one hit disable.
stingers in bf3? Stingers were never good. Have you ever used one, or just been mildly inconvenienced by an entire team of enemies with stingers. They didn't end terrible, but there were still below usable.

These lock-on weapons DO NOT need a buff. If you want to take the air vehicles out in one shot then use a RPG/SRAW. It's difficult as it is to fly the chopper, buffing the lock-on weapons will kill it off.
Once a chopper has dumped it's flares it's very vulnerable for the next 20 seconds. If they are flying low or near buildings, mobility hits can be fatal. Also, you can bait some pilots into dumping their flares early if you just point a lock on missile at it. Think of lock on missiles as area denial - if you have a stinger, you can kill any chopper pilot that is foolish enough to fly around within 400m of you.
That would be true if they couldnt insta repair mid air... as it is, its stupid... IRL JAVE destroys a tank 1 hit... a little bird should get hammered by it, maybe not the attack chopper as it cant repair, but the little? And your logic is that i use a non guided missile to shoot a fast moving target? on a tank, yeah ok. On a chopper or plane its to wasteful to try and hit with SRAW/RPG, and only a few can really target SRAW properly to hit a moving(evasion) chopper.

If you want to take it down, co-operate with your squad/team mates and take it down. It's not at all difficult. You can counter teamwork with teamwork.
Its a lot easier to coordinate 3 guys in a chopper to repair when not playing with friends, than 3 guys to shoot and teamwork to get a chopper down. Or maybe the chopper should get perma damage. IE: you hit the chopper with 1 rocket, damage is idk... 40 so chopper is at 60 life points, now you can repair mid air, but up to 80, not to 100 again. This will force the chopper to be more carefull even with 2 repair guys, and eventually force it to land and repair back to 100, nullifying it for some minutes. I was driving a chopper with 2 guys repairing, and i took 3 consecutive rockets, and survived... thats plain BS, again i dont want to nerf air combat at all, i quite like it, but rockets in general are underpowered right now, they need to balance them out, maybe with something like what i stated before, instead of a simple increase damage or decrease damage. And i know its not real life, but the balance of the weapons tends to try and mimic real life. Also SRAW/RPG doing same damage as a laser designated JAVE does not make sense, balance wise. At the same time i believe transport chopper and plane miniguns should do a lot more damage to infantry, and a little buff to scout as well. A jave requierd you to unlock it, get someone to designate a target, you to lock on it, avoid IR flare, him to not duck behind a building and make you lose lock mid air. And event after all that, you hit and you do maybe 50 dmg, he repairs and comes to kill you... Both things are wrong, and need balance.
You and Matimio should do a Sniper / Spotter Double Vision. The "Sniper" would use a bolt action rifle to take out mid and long range targets while using a claymore and TUGS to fortify a position. The "Spotter" Could use a carbine or shotgun and C4 traps to defend that same position from rushers as well as using the PLD to spot targets and range the long range targets. The Claymore and C4 traps along with someone constantly watching your back could make you a real force. Pick up kits from fallen rushers to throw down a med pack and ammo pack when you can.
The shot gun trifecta M1040 with your choice of sight Modified choke Laser sight Ergo grip For secondary use the shorty 12g with your choice of sight Full choke Laser sight For the first gadget use the m26 slug Med bag Defensive perk V40 mini Use the m1040 for close range hipfire, the m26 for long range, the v40 to get people out of cover and shorty just as your cqb gun when you run out of ammo on your primary. Try and go for headshots with m26 and cqb hipfire with the rest.

Here's an idea for a lethal squad up episode, Have a full 5 man squad with a medic, support player, 2 engineers, and recon player. The recon player locks onto armor and can snipe from rooftops. The engineers use any weapon along with lock on launchers in conjunction with the recon player's lock on. The medic supplies the health and revives while the support player supplies the ammo and suppressing fire when necessary. Good luck, have fun.

If it's laser designated, it becomes a fire and forget guaranteed hit. It doesn't matter anyway because it's almost impossible to regain control of the aircraft after being hit. You can't fly away so your only option is to bail or get killed. Engineers repairing it are usually killed by the method. Either way, the launcher has fulfilled its purpose in removing the aircraft threat.
Way I see it. Laser locking, flares shouldn't do sh*t. Either you protect yourself from heat lock or laser lock, you cannot have both. Or that's how I'll balance it.
Try LAV with TOW and laserpainter on the gunners seat. It does 50% damage on 400 metres and the gunner doesnt have to keep locking unlike the javelin needs it.
Lots more laser locking possible in this game compared to BF3, yet i hardly see targets locked when I play engi, 3 engi launchers can lock on now. There's the PLD + Soflam from Recon, and gunner soflam from vehicles, TOW can also lock on targets. Hope this vid will promote more laser spotting. As it can drasticly change gameplay, especially in open areas, and sea combat where targets can be obscured by high waves.

If I use the Javelin, DICE is like, "You can lock on to the mortar, the TOW launcher, and the 50. Cal, but not the tank in the middle that you're aiming for."

Levelcap Playing like this should be a 3 men team. A Engineer, Recon and a Support. At least you don't have to run out of ammo. A if you need one, have an Assault to heal you.
There is a glitch with the ecm jammer and javelin if you lock and fire a javelin and the pilot pops his ecm you won't be able to damage them even tho the chaff cloud is gone

Once me and 4 other friends were setup with. 1 Support with C4 and ammo box(changing for Recon, according with the situation) 3 Engineers with SRAW and Javelin 1 Recon with laser marker and C4. The vehicles didn't stood a chance...
Dice is probably going to make a patch were javelin launchers 1 shot disable a vehicle and 1 shot destroy aircraft because in REAL life a jav missile would destroy or heavily damage a vehicle
I find the SMAW to be the best overall rocket. Fast moving, fast reload, flat trajectory... I can knock out choppers without sacrificing my ability to hit tanks, and I don't need to stand out in the open and try to guide the rocket like the SRAW.
what do you mean the SRAW is best for this??? the Jav locks on almost instantly, does way more dam and has much further lock on range. the Jav is the rocket that is designed to work with the laser designator. it does a it's draw backs, can't dumb fire, and slightly longer reload. but if working with a painter Jav is always the way to go.

i was doing it just the other day with my buddy defending on rush, and they enemy team didn't stand a chance, they couldn't get any of their vehicles into the battle so their infantry just slowly trickled in and the rest of my team had no problem taking them out before they could get close. it works especially well on Hainan and Paracel Storm
The straw has a 350 meter range but the javalin has a 500 meter range. So depending on map size one is better than the other. I have found the javalin seems to miss or explode on the back of most choppers with a laser lock. Must be a glitch or bug.
I agree that if you are solo then the sraw is one of the best options, but if you are with someone that uses the laser designators then you should use the Javelin Just cause its so damn powerful

also sometimes soflam and tow missile combo in a LAV can also be a fun anti air option.
1 pld and 2 javelins basically makes "infantry only" mode for the entire enemy team

A friend and I tried this once except I was flying the stealth jet with laser guided missiles, and we found that to work really well

You're looking at it the wrong way. The SRAW is a one hit kill solo because it's a skill shot, you have potential to miss. If it's laser designated, it becomes a fire and forget guaranteed hit.
It doesn't matter anyway because it's almost impossible to regain control of the aircraft after being hit. You can't fly away so your only option is to bail or get killed. Engineers repairing it are usually killed by the method. Either way, the launcher has fulfilled its purpose in removing the aircraft threat.
That double vision setup that u do is pretty neat

Way I see it. Laser locking, flares shouldn't do sh*t. Either you protect yourself from heat lock or laser lock, you cannot have both. Or that's how I'll balance it.
Hey Lvl, Try laser locking and using the stationary Kornet Launchers. Lots of fun and you don't run out of rockets.

Try LAV with TOW and laserpainter on the gunners seat. It does 50% damage on 400 metres and the gunner doesnt have to keep locking unlike the javelin needs it.

Lots more laser locking possible in this game compared to BF3, yet i hardly see targets locked when I play engi, 3 engi launchers can lock on now.
There's the PLD + Soflam from Recon, and gunner soflam from vehicles, TOW can also lock on targets.
Hope this vid will promote more laser spotting. As it can drasticly change gameplay, especially in open areas, and sea combat where targets can be obscured by high waves.
It doesn't work well in pubs. I'm trying to spot and paint stuff, but my teammates rarely notice it.

Playing like this should be a 3 men team. A Engineer, Recon and a Support. At least you don't have to run out of ammo. A if you need one, have an Assault to heal you.
There is a glitch with the ecm jammer and javelin if you lock and fire a javelin and the pilot pops his ecm you won't be able to damage them even tho the chaff cloud is gone

Mate, you have to use the RPG-7 that rocketlauncher is dealing way more damage than any other ones, but it has a lower velocity

1 Support with C4 and ammo box(changing for Recon, according with the situation)
3 Engineers with SRAW and Javelin
1 Recon with laser marker and C4.

Was using soflam + MAV with my buddy. He was sniper, me in IFV. We lefted enemy with no vehicles at all.

You should do this with a squad up like we did.. we had 3 engis and a recon and a support.. endless firing of rockets was funny as hell
Dice is probably going to make a patch were javelin launchers 1 shot disable a vehicle and 1 shot destroy aircraft because in REAL life a jav missile would destroy or heavily damage a vehicle
5 hats how it is now with every lock on weapon except for heatseekers...All "dumb" rockets or free or wired guided will instakill

I find the SMAW to be the best overall rocket. Fast moving, fast reload, flat trajectory... I can knock out choppers without sacrificing my ability to hit tanks, and I don't need to stand out in the open and try to guide the rocket like the SRAW.
what do you mean the SRAW is best for this??? the Jav locks on almost instantly, does way more dam and has much further lock on range. the Jav is the rocket that is designed to work with the laser designator. it does a it's draw backs, can't dumb fire, and slightly longer reload. but if working with a painter Jav is always the way to go.
+Dennis Davis what he said iv never worked jav with spotter but i could imagine and ya its longer range more damage they need a support with ammo for egineer and a medic and just hold that building :D
i was doing it just the other day with my buddy defending on rush, and they enemy team didn't stand a chance, they couldn't get any of their vehicles into the battle so their infantry just slowly trickled in and the rest of my team had no problem taking them out before they could get close. it works especially well on Hainan and Paracel Storm
Don't hate on the scout elite, it wasn't meant for regular sniping it's for aggressive recons.
Why do you need a laser if the stinger and javelin are already lock-on?
The straw has a 350 meter range but the javalin has a 500 meter range. So depending on map size one is better than the other. I have found the javalin seems to miss or explode on the back of most choppers with a laser lock. Must be a glitch or bug.
Hopefully this will teach people to use the PLD and SOFLAM to lock onto enemy air and make them co-op with engineers...

I agree that if you are solo then the sraw is one of the best options, but if you are with someone that uses the laser designators then you should use the Javelin Just cause its so damn powerful

This tactic is used in a atleast 4man squad, 1 supp, 2, engies 1 recon, or 3 engies.
Do a squad up on this , on a vehicle map and enjoy :)

The fact an RPG doesn't kill a little bird in one really annoys me. It was not OP, it was a hard but fun use of the RPG in bf3.
I kill little birds with one shot RPGs all the time. What are you talking about? Its the one of the reasons I almost always use the RPG.
