You mean a wireless access point and a network switch. A router routes between your internal network and the internet. Some of them include Wifi and a 4 or 5 port switch.
Being pedantic - a router is used to transfer data between networks (such as your lan and the internet). You keep saying you need a good router, but i think you mean you need a good network ‘switch’ which transfers data between nodes on the same LAN. Many home ‘routers’ include a few lan switch ports, but it’s worth differentiating that it’s fast lan switching that’s required for good performance

Its not about upload and download speeds.. its about your router. All I would say is give it a try. My internet speeds are not fast but I have an updated router and it works. 👍🏻
One that can sustain a good bandwidth. For example, A single 1920×1080@30 fps NDI stream needs approximately 100 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth. The bandwidth required will change, however, depending on the resolution, framerate, and how much motion is being captured by the camera. Then add more camera to the mix and you will need more bandwidth.

Followed the steps . everything installed okay. The NDI source shows up okay, but when I select that source, I just get a black screen in OBS. the smartphone mic is live, so I know the connection is good. And I can see the camera feed if I go to the properties window, so I know the device is connected to OBS via NDI. seems not ready for prime time.

Turns out the "black screen" is a well known and well documented glitch. I found references to it all over the web. NewTek support promised me a refund, but then went quiet. They asked me for a screen shot of the "black screen" in OBS. which seems ridiculous, but which I sent them. This problem has been around for quite some time, and is widespread, and NewTek are well aware of it. Not impressed.
How to solve delay or slow response issues. The video does not match with my sound. Sound comes first and the movement on video comes after. What would be the issues? Please help....
This could be down to your internet connection - wether it’s wired or wireless and in things like OBS, you can offset (delay) the audio so it’s in time with the visuals.
Another great tut. I wanted to use NDI but found out that it needs gigabyte wireless to work. I don't know what my router is, but my setup is only 100 mps download and about 11 mps upload. I'd have to pay double what I'm paying now to upgrade to gigabyte.
Hey Neal. So as I said in the video.. it’s NOT about the speed of your broadband. It’s just your router. My speeds here are 30 down and 10 up!!!! And it works! It’s about the traffic on your router.. not the upload or download speeds. Hope that restores some faith. Give it a go.. you might be surprised! 👍🏻

I've used the NDI HX Capture app on my iPhone, I did the exact same thing as you did and it doesn't show the screen of my iPhone and supposedly is receiving the audio, because it shows on audio mixer, but it looks like it not working too. Can someone help me PLEASE!!?

Yes you can. They are just transmitting to one another and that’s what you see in professional setups all the time where they have a dedicated WiFi just for transmitting data between devices, like a ‘backstage’ wifi that doesn’t get clogged up with users on the internet. 👍🏻

Hey Zachary 👋 Whoa! Running 4K is hard. It’s best to be plugged in to your router on the comouter - wifi just wont cut it. You’ll just have to okay around with the audio offset. Mine is 300ms using wifi and doing 1080.

Honestly, I don’t even know if 4k is feasible... especially since i’m trying to run it via the NDI HX Camera app... i don’t even know if it is capturing running 4k or 1080 on the mobile app. But even if it’s just 1080, i’m trying to see if i need to buy the new MBP with the 5600m and 64gb RAM to run a 6 or 7 cam setup with OBS (plus some graphics and other things, lol... i can get a but overkill at times 😅) or if i can get away with a $3000 MBP. Honestly don’t I ow what the max would be before you run into latency. I run into latency at 4K with one device but my broadband isn’t that fast. Hope you can do it. Would be a really interesting thing to document. Maybe reach out to NDI and see what support they have for you. Keep me posted 👍🏻
Hey! Maybe you can help. I'm using a very powerful computer to live stream a PTZ camera using NDI and OBS. But there is a weird stutter in the video. When we switch to 4k HDMI source there is no stutter. What is odd is the NDI monitor has no stutter either, it's only inside OBS. Any advice?
could be down to a couple of things - refresh rate, bitrate, what you are outputting in what format, FPS. there are too many variables.. try doing a few tests with different rates privately. also head on over to the OBS forum and see if anyone has had similar issues. Hope you get it fixed 🤞
Hey JohnPaul - great videos and just what I need right now. I too need some help on how to install NDI properly on my Win 10 desktop. In addition, I'm not clear on its use in my situation. Could you explain if I have a laptop on my first floor and desktop on the second floor where my router is, and I want to send the signal for streaming my band from the first floor to the second floor, do I need to have NDI on both machines and OBS on both? Hey peter 👋 So it’s a bit of a different situation for you. This video was to showcase the NDI apps that are on the iOS App Store - I’m not sponsored by NewTek or NDI - I just think it’s a good solution for using you r ipad or iPhone as a camera and sending that video feed to your computer. So using that scenario - you would have an iPhone or iPad on the first floor with the NDI HX Camera app, pointing at the band - and making sure. That device is on the same WiFi as the computer on the 2nd floor. Then you would be running OBS on the 2nd computer - with the NDI plugin already installed so you can pull the camera (iPhone) information/feed into the computer. Does that make sense? You only need OBS running on the second floor computer to stream out to the world. Take a look at this article - the guy is a gamer but the concept of having two computers and OBS is the same. That’s weird. Make sure you have the NDI plug-in / drivers installed on your computer and the computer has been rebooted to make sure those drivers come into affect. If your still having connection issues, have a look here : www.ndi.tv/products/ndi-hx-camera-app/
I know it’s unlikely, but is it at all possible to use with a phone hotspot? My church currently run two live-streams simultaneously, one on WiFi and the other on hotspot. Trying to get a multi-cam setup without spending anymore money. We also use vMix instead of OBS, are these apps compatible?

Make sure you are on the latest version of OBS (v.25) and then reset and install the NDI plugin. If not, then reach out to ObsProject forum for support.

I use my phone’s 4g with my iMac when streaming cause its genuinely faster than my home broadband! 😆
So yes just hotspot the mac to your phone. 👍🏻

I have found the solution to this problem.
Open Task Manager
End task for ndi input
Open it again.

For some reason whenever I try this, I get nothing that says NDI when I click on sources. What should I do?
Make sure you are on the latest version of OBS (v.25) and then reset and install the NDI plugin.
If not, then reach out to ObsProject forum for support.
I had a few issues with it dropping out (people phone you etc...) so ended up quitting OBS and the App and restarting both..
