i just want to say, that it is because of you that i increased my english grade so much. Start of yr 10 i was working at a 4, now at the end of year mock exams i got a grade 8 (2 off a nine), you're the epitome of a good english teacher.
That is so cool - I'm glad the subject is becoming interesting for you - hopefully that will last for life, no matter what you take at A level or as a degree.
Not just you. I favour English Literature more than English Language because it is more interesting. Although it is less practical in terms of the world beyond school, it shows the literature from the past and how it has shaped our world today.
I am only using your videos to revise because why should I use other resources when you have everything we need thanks mr salles you are really helping us sooo much☺️☺️

Hi Mr Salles! Just wanted to say thanks for uploading these videos, especially as it’s on An Inspector Calls. I feel I’ve most improved on this play thanks to your videos. I’ve already posted a recent essay I did on your giveaway video and I would’ve never believed I could have managed to produce that a year ago. Now I’ve just got to maintain it for my actual GCSE exams this year. But really, thank you. 🙏 Speaking of, have you announced all your giveaway winners??

I absolutely loved these top grade analysis for inspector calls characater and it has taught me more than i have in class. Could you please make similar chacter analysis videos for macbeth please.
I'll be back here when I get at least a 8 in English Lit mock, I'm working relatively close, but I flopped my recent mock. This next Lit mock will be mine!!
Will all this be enough to answer nearly any question on Mr Birling (or any themes to do with Mr Birling) aka If I learn everything in this vid, will I be set to answer any question or theme to do with Mr Birling ? Thanks
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish , thanks for you comment. Is this the same for the other "TOP GRADE ANALYSIS OF [CHARACTER]" Thanks and your vids are sooooo useful
sir, the play was performed in 1946 in England- would you still recommend us talking about how the play was used for the labour party? even though by the time the play was performed in England the party had already won?
I completely understand WHY Priestley wrote in favour of the Labour Party for the 1945 general election, but the play was first performed in Soviet Union in 1945, not England. On top of that the play was first performed in England- AFTER the election of 45- in 46. This shows that the timelines just don’t add up for Priestleys intended purpose of supporting the Labour Party in the election, thus making it less useful when analysing the context of the play; it has no affect for building support for labour in the British audience.
However I can acknowledge the support if the Labour Party as a more socialist party in general, I just think for the ‘45 election specifically it doesn’t add up
Very thoughtful, but you are forgetting why he had to move production to Moscow - London theatres were shut, which he had not anticipated when writing he play
at 8:19 I'm a bit confused because if the Labour Party was using the same capitalist language as Birling showing that they profited from war. then why is Priestley in favour of Labour who are capitalist? and also didn't you say he's encouraging people to vote socialist
In fairness, Mr Birling is not all bad. He offers Eva a good job, which she refuses on idealistic grounds, but that means he is forced to sack her, it wasn't his first choice. Being a known strike leader like that would make someone virtually unemployable in a manufacturing setting anyway; Eva doesn't sufficiently consider this when she makes her decision. Plus, while he is harsh with his servant, there is no suggestion of creepiness or sexual abuse, which there is with other men like Gerald, Eric or the Alderman. He may have been unfaithful to his wife, but she doesn't know either way, which was the accepted good taste of the Victorian era, but which is of course distasteful to modern sensibilities.
How times have changed! It is true, that he is in some ways the least bad. Alternatively, none of the exploitation by others would have occured had he simply decided to pay decent wages.
Hi Mr Salles just wanted to ask whether you have seen my mock description on your last video, and if you haven't, please check it out. I would love a giveaway!
Well, as you are the second viewer to prompt me - you can be my second winner! Email me at sallesdominic@gmail.com to tell me which guide you want and the address you would like it posted to. Talk this through with your parents - I can post it to your school if preferable.
Hello Sir, thanks for letting me be the second giveaway! If you could please reply on my description, give it a grade and let me know what I could do to improve, that would be immensly helpful, as I have summative exams starting tommorow! Btw, I've sent you an email, so please view it!
(copied and pasted from previous video you made) The sky was a violent battlefront; gargantuan monstrosities of dull clouds defensively blocking out the Sun's glorious beams of light. Wind whipped around the icy wasteland, viciously attacking away at the traveller, just as an archer's arrow penetrates through tranquil, empty air. The ice encrusted mountain barely stood. Ithad been easily defeated by the harsh atmospheric cold, the erratic nature of the clouds, and the exhausting passing of time ; all of these attributed to the wearing away of the mountain, chipping away at small chunks of it as the inseparable days and nights came and went. He was cold. He still wore the crimson hoodie his wife had knitted for him before embarking on his mountainous trek. In his large backpack, he had kept a few photograph of his beloved family and friends to remind him of what he was here to accomplish. Pellets of sleet spat down on him from the sullen sky - it was as if they were condenscendingly mocking and jeering him. The very ground on which the traveler walked on was unforgivingly glacial, providing him neither stable footing nor comfort. Yet despite nothing falling into his favour, he carried on trudging through the dense foliage of snow. Yes, he was cold and empty, but the sheer determination he had burnt away any icicles of doubt he may have had lingering in his mind. Unseen to the traveller was a meandering ridge of snow, on the brink of unstability from the adverse weather. The winter's Devil had one last treacherous trick up his crafty sleeve. Rain pattered across the desolate wasteland, already grieving his tragic death. Larger, more ominous clouds materialised suddenly, killing off any chance that the sun would come out victorious. They peered peered down, like spectators watching a man being ruthlessly beaten by another twice his size. He had no time to react when it happened. Snowballs big as boulders struck brutally at his chest, knocking him flat on the granite-hard ground. A fiery burn had erupted in raging flames where he was hit. "Arrgh", he screeched, clutching uselessly at his frail chest. Barely a few seconds past by when a sudden deluge of ice, snow and dirt broke free from the mountain face. It powelled through, aided by the steep gradient of the mountain and the lubrication from water. Smack! Swash! The impeding avalanche lunged forward towards the traveller. He was sent hurtling down the slippery slope along with the avalanche, gradually slowing down with every blow his body took from the jagged, angular boulders. When he finally did stop, he was a broken toy. The traveller laid there sprawled, defeated by the cruel hands of nature, just like the mountain he had hoped to conquer.
