    Three things: 1) The Fantom's vocoder capability is fantastic. 2) The Hydrasynth's formant filter is impressive. 3) Great job explaining the concept!

    The vocoder has always been a favorite sound for me, I love the robotic vocal effects you can get out of it. Thank you for explaining how vocoders work, it's something I have always wanted to know.

    Just terrific stuff as usual Scott! Thanks so much. I’ve seen a lot of vocoder videos trying to earn my synth nerd card, and I thought I “got it” basically… and then I saw this. Probably the best vocoder video I’ve ever seen. 🙌
    I always learn some new and useful things that help connect the dots from your videos. Thanks again. 🙂

    I highly recommend folks interested in vocoding to look for the book "How to Wreck a Nice Beach" by Dave Tompkins (title is a play on mishearing "How to recognize speech"). It is a pretty complete history of vocoding and speech synthesis from the earliest days pre-WWII up until its prominence in Kraftwerk and Hip-Hop, with a loving nod to the late great Roger Troutman. A fun read.

    I bought the Roland JunoDS just for the vocoder. By layering 3 or 4 other choir patches with the choir vocoder you get very natural sounding choirs you can now shape with lyrics and voice articulations through the vocoder.

    I haven't used the sytem 8 vocoder that much but it's playable, I tend to use the roland v4 which does anything you want but you end up trying to use the V4 and the synth at the same time which just makes things more difficult, love your input scott ❤thanks.

    Thanks for the informative video. One use of a vocoder I like (at least I think it's a vocoder, maybe a VP-330) is from the Jon & Vangelis song Deborah at the three minute mark. It's only a couple seconds. It's used to add a kind aura effect abound the vocal. There may be some of it at the end as well, not sure.

    Scott, what vocoder do you like the most out of the Fantom or Jupiter X? and do you know how many bands the Jupiter x vocoder has?
    I think the Jupiter x vocoder sounds great. Keep up the good work with all your videos, really like them. Also I wish the Montage M had as good as vocoder as the Jupiter X because it is my #1 synth in my Arsenal of Synths. Do you think is is possible they good make the Montage M vocoder on par with the Fantom or Jupiter X with a firmware update? Thanks

    Hello Scott...Thank you for all of the info on the Vocoder...!! I have a Roland V-Synth with the VC Vocal Card..Dose the Fantom have a same Vocoder as the V-Synth with the Vocal Card ? Thank you Again for all of your Info...Love your channel..!!

    • @ScottsSynthStuff
      @ScottsSynthStuff  2 месяца назад +1

      The V-Synth with the vocal card has more capability (and sounds better) than the System-8, but the vocoder in the Fantom is far more flexible and capable.

    Another great video from you.
    I have a question.
    Which manufacturer is your synthesizer rack in the background from?
    I'm still looking for something like that.
    I'm looking forward to more videos from you :)

    Thanks a lot !!! great Fantom vocoder..... One question : what is happening with FANTOM 6/7/8 ? They are out of stock , on promos , and even Thomann in Europe has stopped selling FANTOM6 and 8 , units of 7 are still available...... Is ROLAND gving up FANTOM or are they going to sell the FANTOM EX from now with all EX included? Or a new Fantom is coming ? I really don' t understand. Thanks for you infos if you have ones .

    How is the Montage (regular) as a vocoder?
    I haven't tried the one in my MODX yet, or VST's.
    At a gig, is there any way to share your vocal mic without needing a separate mic?
    Also, is there any easy way to use one without dragging a separate mixer to shows? It would probably only be used for a few seconds on a song or two a night, so unless its simple probably too much trouble with the limited time to setup/tear down trying to keep things easier. I'm thinking I'd need a mixer and there isn't room on top of my keyboards for one any longer. Now I'd need to take a stand for the mixer, an extra microphone stand, etc I'm using my MODX as my mixer now, 1/4" inputs only.

    • @ScottsSynthStuff
      @ScottsSynthStuff  2 месяца назад

      The Montage and MODX vocoder is good, but it is limited to 10 channels, so it's not quite as intelligible as the 32-band one in the Fantom. The MODX/Montage vocoder does allow some complex things like shifting formant frequencies, to further alter the sound.
      If you're already using a microphone plugged into your MODX now, you could just keep using it - when you select the vocoder performance, it will vocode the microphone input, when you select the non-vocoder performance, the mic can be used as a regular vocal mic.

      @@ScottsSynthStuff Thanks.
      I don't presently have a mi plugged into the MODX. Just into the PA system. I was wondering if there was a way using the band's mic for my vocals to also run into my MODX or sound card for VST's without needing a second mic stand.

    ...the MAM VF-11 vocoder is a great tool, too.
    The KORG RADIAS has also a fantastic vocoder.
    It´s always interesting to put line signals into a vocoder, I truly recommend that

    • @ScottsSynthStuff
      @ScottsSynthStuff  2 месяца назад

      I actually do that - you see me using the mic on my vocoder, but that mic actually goes into the mixer, then to a bus, and from there to the synth. All the other synths also feed onto that bus, so I can play anything on any synth (or in the DAW) and feed it into the vocoder on the Fantom.
