Hey guys! Hope you like the new videos! Last year many of you asked for more examples to demonstrate the techniques discussed in my videos, so this month you can expect lots of examples from published novels. I hope the new format is better than ever. Thanks for all of your support!
I really didn't want to disappear, but I ended up with many exciting editing opportunities and couldn't find time to make videos. I'm very happy to be back!
Concepts I've already known for a long time "click" for me when you explain them. Your videos have helped with editing and my rewrite of a terrible first draft.
You really give the most comprehensive advice. Happy to have you back! So many other channels would have just said the inciting incident needs to be as soon as possible , don't let it drag on too long or you will loose your reader.
This has perfect timing! I was really worried that I needed to put the inciting incident at the beginning, which I didn't want to, so now I know I don't have to, I just have to be clever about it :D Thanks a lot! Also very happy to see videos from you again :D
Welcome back. I'm in the process of editing my novel, and your advice has been invaluable during the few months I've been binging on your videos. Since I was born in August, I feel that your current batch of videos is a great birthday present.
Yeeeeeeeessssss!!! She is back!!!!! Omg!! Makes me so happy!!! Ps: i love that u upload quality and dont feel pressured into creating more or concistently. I think your content is the best and maybe it’s coz u actually always do your thing your way! U are cherished!
Yassssss! Welcome back. Ok. Now that I've watched the video, good information there. I think it will help kickstart this opening I've been putting off.
Got off work and saw some packages I had ordered finally arrived. Then I checked my emails, saw I had lost an Ebay bid on an item; but the seller gave me the option of buying it anyways because the winning bidder took to long to pay. And now, I get on RUclips and see Ellen Brock has uploaded a new video. - This day is awesome! Makes me worry about what's coming tomorrow: I fear I've used up too much good luck at once.
This is so well timed for me! I've been redrafting my opening recently, after realising that starting with the inciting incident didn't work for my novel (crit partners said they didn't feel like they had time to know my character before she was thrust into an action scene).
Just started watching your videos this past week and was bothered to realize you hadn't posted in a while. Happy you have time for more recordings, keep up the good work!
You're just a teenager, but you know so much! I really like the understanding you have of writing, but more, how you help us get to a deeper understanding. It's like learning how films are made, you start to notice things more in film. Now I can't read a book without dissecting the elements in the plot, as well as noting methods used to keep interest! Thanks for the succinct info, and the way you break it down for us. That is a real talent you have.
So good to see you back!! i binged watched all your videos last year and missed having a new one from you so this really was a pleasant welcome. Love your content as always!
Welcome back Ellen! I only recently found your videos, and they've been very helpful for me as I'm currently writing a fantasy novel that I hope will be the first in a series.
@@kirtil5177 …I'm still only 1/3 of the way through it at most. University ate up a lot of my time and, when I did get some free time, I struggled to actually write nearly as much as I wanted to. Wow; it really has been over three years... that really does not make me feel good.
This is excellent advice. Thanks for sharing. I don't usually start with the inciting incident so it's great to see tips on how to deliver that in a story.
Wow! You just made my day. After all these months I thought you had left us high and dry. I'm so excited that you are back and thank you, thank you for your new video collection.
I’m working on a new manuscript and you totally helped me with this video on how to start my inciting incident and to get the plot moving. Thank you so much. I am indebted to you.
You are a godsend. I notice you haven't uploaded in months which is a pity. I'm in love with your clear and concise explanations and practical advice. I hope you're well and can upload soon.
New video, yay! I've binged most of your videos and saved them to a playlist where I keep writing advice. You have been so helpful and are one of my favorite RUclipsrs. Thank you for all your hard work.
Your channel is extremely helpful and practical. The examples from actual books are great, and something that not enough writing channels do. Keep up the good work!
Welcome back, Brock. Informative video with many good examples, it definately made me rethink the chapter I've been wrestling with the last few weeks. Looking forward to the next video!
This video is very helpful! I'm constantly rewriting my novel's intro because I'm afraid of having it be boring since the inciting incident doesn't happen until the end of chapter two. Your videos help so much!
found your channel when I was trying to write a dungeons and dragons campaign. Turns out a lot of your content is helpful in writing playable stories as well. Thanks for the help
Welcome back ! All of your videos are so exciting. I was told that my stories had been more exciting, more catchy lately. Well! I keep telling my readers (a junior writer French web site) that I have lately been busy following the advices from a darn good coach! Thank you so much Ellen!
SO excited to have you posting again!! WB! I love your videos, I find them so informative. This video's topic and the next one is really what I need right now to start writing! Can't wait for more from you!
Welcome back Ellen Brock, novel editor! Its good to see you made it back! You were mentioned on one of my other favorite 'about writing' youtubers. I think it was terrible writing advice (hilarious channel). If I am wrong and it was another channel then my bad!
YAY, you're back! But ohhh my god, this is the exact topic I'm struggling with. And still struggling. My biggest problem is what comes after. My characters are in despair, desolate. And after, there is no specific place for them to go. I have various events I can insert in, and their specific timeline doesn't matter as much, but I'm still really working on dialogue and making every sentence lead to something - no words wasted. It's hard, and it's taking time.
Hey guys! Hope you like the new videos! Last year many of you asked for more examples to demonstrate the techniques discussed in my videos, so this month you can expect lots of examples from published novels. I hope the new format is better than ever. Thanks for all of your support!

That's awesome! Your videos are so helpful! I hope you can be around more often! Great work! ^_^
Ellen Brock What a coincidence! Just when I published my very first e-book today, you’re back on RUclips.
The examples are a great help for me. Thanks.
Really cool to see you back, Ellen :)
Hey I like your channel too

That's great! I'm glad I could help!
This is the best writing channel I had the pleasure to bump into; I find it practical and solid.
Thank you!
Oh my god! Yes! You’re back!!
Wow, Shaelin Writes just came off hiatus and now Ellen! What a time to be alive!
I think this is the first video you uploaded since I stumbled across your channel. You are absolutely awesome and I've taken notes on all your videos.
Thank you so much! And yes, I was away from RUclips for almost a year, but I'm happy to be back!
You really give the most comprehensive advice. Happy to have you back!
So many other channels would have just said the inciting incident needs to be as soon as possible , don't let it drag on too long or you will loose your reader.
I'm so glad you're back to making videos again
I was just lamenting the fact it'd been very long since you had made a video, I go on your channel and I find one posted 5 minutes ago??? JOY
The lighting is on point.
This has perfect timing! I was really worried that I needed to put the inciting incident at the beginning, which I didn't want to, so now I know I don't have to, I just have to be clever about it :D Thanks a lot! Also very happy to see videos from you again :D
Jojo of Faraway You still need tension at the start. Or a disturbance. Or a longing from the character. Not just ordinary life.
Write Heroes I know that‘s why I said I have to be smart about it.
Your videos have helped me a lot in my writing so I'm glad you're back!
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!?!
so excited for this video!
I got really busy with editing. I'm happy to be back. Thanks for your support!

@@matthewmuir8884 Great job still continuing it! Writing slow is not nearly as bad as giving up or forgetting about it entirely
@@kirtil5177 Thanks. I needed that. Still; I would've liked to have been a lot further on it by now.
So glad you’re back! Thank you for all your videos! I find them to be very helpful. 😊❤️
This is excellent advice. Thanks for sharing. I don't usually start with the inciting incident so it's great to see tips on how to deliver that in a story.
queendsheena1 Starting with the inciting incident normally doesnt develop a deep emotional hook like having it later does.
Yay new video!!!!!! So glad you're back!
Glad to see you back your tips are on point
