    Wow, tough question. In this video, I like the surprise factor of the Lightning Bolt, and same with the Charge Kick. I'm also fond of the animations for the Super Arm (MM1, tearing up the block to throw) and the Ice Wall (MM&B). I guess if I had to pick, I'd go with Ice Wall.

    Apparently it was related to the end-credit annotations in some way. I've deleted them now; let me know if that's fixed it.

    The Top Spin, when used effectively, can inflict damage rather than taking it when you would otherwise collide with an enemy. It's oft-overlooked, though, (outside of one boss battle) because it seems to be somewhat tricky to use well.

    This is awsome. I never thought of Mega Man useing all of the weapons he's collected in all off his games all at once. Nice job makeing the custom 8-bit MM 7 , 8 , MM&Bass and MMPU weapon sprites and also custom sprites for Mega Man.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  15 лет назад +2

    A fine question! In general, I tried to match the suit colors to the corresponding bosses' color schemes from Capcom's artwork, but I was also influenced by the planets' colors when it came to the Mega Man V weapons. The suit colors also had to be recycled in the weapon sprites, so that was a factor too.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  15 лет назад +1

    Yep. In every frame where something was different (either somebody moved or somebody animated), I had to set up that frame myself by positioning all the sprites on-screen just right. There was nothing filling in the in-betweens for me. Math came in handy for a few projectile trajectories, but all the gravity-related trajectories (things falling, Mega Man jumping, etc.) were just eyeballed.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  15 лет назад +1

    Yeah, that should work, but keep in mind there are two types of explosions - those like the Crash Bomber and those like the Drill Bomb (compare the MM2 and MM4 weapon sheets). For the full effect, you need to include an open ring as one of the four sprites, something which the Crash Bomber doesn't have, but the Drill Bomb does. Therefore I would recommend a combination of sprites from those two games to get all of the sprites that the death explosion needs.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  16 лет назад +1

    As for the sprites that never existed in 8-bit form, I had to draw them from scratch (minus a small few which were just recolors of NES weapons). For the originals, I only chose colors from the original NES palette, I kept the limitation of no more than six colors in a single sprite, and I stuck to the convention that the weapon sprites not use colors not already found in Mega Man's sprite (with the exception of MM8's Astro Crush, which I just couldn't bring myself to alter that radically).

    A vast majority came from Sprites INC (check Google), but the MM9 weapon sprites weren't available, so I had to piece them together from early boss sprite rips and high-res screenshots. Oh, and I colored the Game Boy sprites (though Tango was heavily modified).

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  15 лет назад +1

    Because that page was for characters that had been in more than one of these games. As it is, Tango was just specific to Mega Man V, so I put him there.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  16 лет назад +1

    Heh, so noted, but the main objective of the video was to show off every weapon; the "battle" was just a pretext to keep the viewer's interest throughout.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  15 лет назад +1

    Er, well, the flip was from Game Boy sprite sheets, if I'm not mistaken (I just had to color them), and the facial expressions were just minor edits. A few other poses (such as the Super Arm lift where he was facing forward while ripping up the block), as well as Tango, were almost entirely drawn from scratch.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  16 лет назад +1

    I made the animation in Pixen, a pixel-based animation application for Mac. It's pretty useful in that it handles layers and frames, but I still had to animate each frame (it doesn't interpolate between key frames). The sound was mixed in Garage Band. All told, the project took about 5-6 weeks, I think.
    If you're in Windows, it looks like Graphics Gale might be comparable to Pixen, but I haven't tried it.

  • @Rofang
    @Rofang  16 лет назад +1

    I put the animation together in Pixen, a pixel art and animation program for the Mac. It's not very fancy though - it lets you use layers, but beyond that, it boils down to positioning each sprite, one frame at a time.

    Well, damage of course...
    Ok, ok, you want a explanation:
    This is Top Mans spin attack, its one of Megamans melee weapons and he spins rapidly through the air causing damage to everything it touches, till, well, it touches something or hits the ground.
    Top Man is virtually invincible performing this attack.

    Sure. (Tan = #FEDFA6 in RGB.)
    Frame 1: tan circle with 4px diameter
    Frame 2: white circle with 4px diameter set within tan circle with 10px diameter
    Frame 3: white circle with 16px diameter
    Frame 4: white ring with 24px outer diameter, hole with 20px diameter
    Cycle 1-2-3-4-3-2-1. My frames were .05s. And I must admit I cheated on the explosion: there are supposed to be two rings of explosion sprites, but I was exhausted by the end of the animation and thought one looked convincing enough.

    There are a couple that irritate me because I could've improved them. For instance, Thunder Beam (MM1) doesn't go far enough because I couldn't figure out how to piece the sprites together to loop them (I assumed they ended there and didn't go farther, until I watched more MM1 and learned otherwise). Also, the flashing before Noise Crush's second blast is too rapid. These are both things that dawned on me after the video was published, and they annoy me now, but I can't change them.

  • @Rofang
