Another good one would be 'You are there'. Every episode was a different historical story told as if were a live news cast from that time. Maybe Caesar in one, the OK Corral fight in the next. No two consecutive stories in the same century. The show on TV was too expensive to last long, but radio was an awesome history class!

wow I wanted to sleep so badly but insomnia but I was looking for something that I had in mind that is like 8 hours so it will help me sleep. I cannot believe I got EXACTLY what I was looking for. Something about old time radio shows, the voice etc is so soothing! I wish people still talked like this!
Marlowe Diamond are my favorite PI. Detective shows, for it's fast pace, and energy, of the 40's. But it's the laid back 50's Nero Wolf and Archie's flippant attitude of his comments. Classic 50's....I've listened to this and others.
Nero Wolfe! Black screen! Perfect. One problem - the sound mixing. The murmur of voices in a very interesting story is ideal for sleeping. But the noise from the overly loud music is a problem. It's perfect for radio, but not for sleeping

I like Sydney Greenstreet’s interpretation. I also like Wm Conrad in the role in a sadly short television series.

That would be Lee Horsley. I liked Timothy Hutton's Archie much better. There was also a pilot in the 60's with William Shatner in the role.
