There is a growing interest in hypersonic vehicles for a wide range of aerospace and defense applications, but physical testing for product development is difficult and expensive. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can be an essential tool in the early design of hypersonic vehicles, as it can provide valuable insight into the flow field around these vehicles and the resulting structural and thermal loads.
ATA Engineering has a dedicated CFD team working on diverse projects, including many hypersonic applications, using tools such as Simcenter STAR-CCM+ from Siemens and Loci/CHEM, a university code from Mississippi State University.
This webinar will look at best practices for hypersonic CFD analysis and discuss the pros and cons of different CFD methodologies and capabilities:
    - Meshing approaches
    - Adaptive mesh resolution
    - Turbulence and heating physics models
    ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Adam Green, Business Development Manager at ATA Engineering, Inc.
Mr. Green is a veteran of the CAE/CFD industry, originally as a technical user at UK Ministry of Defence and then at CHAM Ltd, UK, and since then in business development with AEA Engineering Software and CD-adapco. Mr. Green is now with ATA Engineering as part of the Siemens VAR team, specializing in STAR-CCM+. He is also a certified AWS Business Professional for cloud deployment of engineering tools and a Siemens Certified Sales Pro 2020.
Chris Ostoich, Ph.D., Project Engineer at ATA Engineering, Inc.
An accomplished CFD practitioner with direct experience in hypersonics and fluid-structure interaction, Dr. Ostoich is a member of the Fluid Dynamics & Propulsion technical team at ATA Engineering. Dr. Ostoich is an expert in the application of CFD and related co-simulations to solving some of the most difficult problems in aerospace and transportation engineering. One of five Dedicated Support Engineers (DSEs) directly supporting ATA’s STAR‑CCM+ clients nationwide, he is also certified by Siemens as a STAR‑CCM+ classroom instructor. Dr. Ostoich received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of Colorado at Boulder, and he went on to earn his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Ostoich won the AIAA Fluid Dynamics Conference Best Paper Award in 2013.
