One way that I find PG being very helpful is in getting the actor's body being filled with the character's objective. So instead of having to "think" the idea of objective, which is an intellectual thing, the actor will viscerally be filled with the want and need of the character. The gesture and direction and the quality of the gesture will be specific to each character (tear with the quality of tenderness, pull with the quality of violence etc.)

Psychological gesture can be used for very many purposes. Like described here it can be used to explore and discover the archetype of the character, the very essence of him/her.
The gesture is called Psychological because in the end after rehearsing it by using your whole body (and energy body which is very important) the gesture is to become an "inner gesture" where no outer movement is necessary.

Great explanation of the pg...marten nr 1 and nr 2 are simple ways graham uses to make the distinction between the inner life of the actor (nr2) and the body of the actor (nr 1).
