Hi Jim. That black pendant thing may be a memorial pendant. People sometimes have diamonds made from ashes. I think the wydi is a dime

Hi Jim great job today! I am here visiting from Washington state and was detecting on Zuma beach yesterday. I didn't do as well as you did though. The beach was completely sanded in and the bulldozers were busy moving the sand around. Love watching your videos, keep up the good work!

Hey Hey, I finally won one. Haley should be close to the cast coming off isn't she? Hope so. If you'd take a bit of advice, with the D2, connect the control box to the rod with the supplied lanyard. Already had one friend that spend a couple of hours in the woods looking for his when it popped off. For the WYDI, I'll go with a pull tab. Thanks again.

Closer to Long Beach but yes Redondo is about a 30 minute drive with no traffic.

Black sand is pure iron, called magnetite.

How much does a good metal detector cost
It depends on what type of metal detecting you are going to do. I cheap detector will not work for beach hunting. I always recommend the Minelab Equinox series for beginners, easy to use and easy to learn.

Jim you seem look for certain things to pick where you hunt. You mentioned in this video that “when you were scouting the beach”. What do you scout for? Have you ever considered making a video of what you look for to pick an area to hunt? You have many years of experience metal detecting the beach and a lot of knowledge to share. Always enjoy watching, can I ask you to put the earphones on the Mike for a few of your negative number targets that you think are good to dig so I can hear what you hear in it as I watch on my phone and can't hear for the waves. Thanks
I have tried that a few times, the mic on the GoPro really doesn't pick up on that solid negative thud I speak of. I will try to figure out a way to do that. Thank You 👍

Jim - we have watched your videos for awhile and enjoy the content. Is there any way you can focus better on the finds during follow up as they are often blurry ? We also were thinking the black pendant may contain ashes or is memorial. Good finds as always and such a beautiful sunset. 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes, I noticed the blurry video at wrap up but unfortunately I had cleaned it all up to film another wrap up before I realized and I was think the black pendant was the same thing. I am having a difficult time trying to find any clue to who may have lost it, I hope I can get it returned to them, soon. Thank You 👍

I hate to be "morbid" but, the black pendant that had "Baby Q" and a date written on it, looks almost identical to a friend of mines pendant which contains a tiny amount of ashes from her baby that passed away... If so, that would really be something the one who lost it would want to have back if possible.

Hey Jim , using 900 at Nags Head , NC ..lots of black sand, what setting do you recommend? Driving 900 nutz 😢
It really depends on the type of black sand and how much magnetite or hematite is in it. Here in SoCal I use beach 2, all metal mode, Fe6, recovery on the higher side as needed and adjust sensitivity as needed sometime running it really low. However, I set the sensitivity and let the machine go into overload as it will automatically lower as needed. Not easy hunting black sands with an Equinox. I just make it work the best I can. Hey Jim. Got a question for you. How would you compare the Deus II to your 900 in the black sand?

I will be answering that question when the conditions after a few more days of digging on the black sands. XP sent me a lot of different settings they would like me to try and report back to them while detecting black sands. So right now I do not have enough time in on the Deus II for a accurate answer. I can tell you is the 900 is deeper in all metal mode than any machine I have used including the Manticore.
I'll be curious as to your results. A friend of mine who is really good with the Deus II hit Sunset Beach yesterday and was shocked after a mile of walking he did not hit a single target in the black sand. Nothing. He switched to his Manticore and walked the same mile and got a few really deep sinkers and clad coins. On a normal beach the Deus II is amazing but it appears that the black sand presents problems for it. Keep me posted on your results.
Daniel, Mike and I hit Sunset on Sunday each using different machines and we could not find a thing in the dry or wet sand. The conditions on either Bolsa or Sunset are not good for the black sand testing on the Deus ii, hopefully the upcoming weather will open up and area on our beaches worthy of a good test.
Well Jim that just proves that if the conditions aren't right there isn't much you can do but wait and try again. Thanks for keeping me posted.

What scoop do you use? I've been using a CKG for three years, but my first one just broke, and my brand new one just broke. I think I may have to find a new company.
Contact CKG and let them know what happened. I love my Titanium scoop but I know to dig gentle in thick wet sand as I have broken many scoops over the past 40 years of detecting and it was always because I am trying to dig fast in the thick wet sand. I feel you pain,

I am in San Diego for the week and the beach seams to be clean of pull-tabs, general junk and no change, the beachs I have worked was Imperal few quarters, a dime and no nickels. Hotel Dell nothing very clean worked them about 5 hr each. The i w ent to belmont park meachane "legend was very noisey, gota few quarters was hard to search whin you have to turn down the sentivity. Then went to La Holla no noise but no targets. Have you see where you get nothing? No junk no coins what so ever. But I did finf a silver medallion sant Gregory and two junk rings.
usually beaches are sanded in and swells, currents, storms, etc... make the wet sand fun to detect. Dry sand is all about visitors, this time of year we do not have the beach activity or events like the summer has so we are not finding the pull tabs and bottle caps. I scouted beaches last week, for our Friday hunt (Yesterday) and there was not much to choose from and I am hoping the upcoming weather can change the conditions for the better. Today, I am going to hit fire pits because it is so slow every where else. Lol! Good Luck and hope you do well.
