This is called passing the torch. Hicks has a body of work that speaks for itself and forged a fiddle style that was envied by every great fiddler. To watch Michael step into his place in fiddle history is exactly what Hicks wants to see. A younger generation rooted in tradition but moving forward. And by looking at Michael’s work now in 2024, it’s easy to see he’s not just a fiddler, but rather a trendsetter.

Michael ceases to amaze me how he never seems to break any bow hairs or strings.
He plays with such panache ⚠️
    Just incredible.
RIP to Bobby Hicks, great player too ❤

There are great rhythm players that hold songs together well. I recall one at the Athens, Alabama fiddlers convention. When he took a break off, it was like the song just fell apart.
