The call is a group up call I think. They will listen for a response to search for the nearest party. Sometimes its just to know where the others are, distance and direction, and sometimes it is for a meetup.
Yes, very much. I'm not if you've seen them in person but they're about 4 feet tall. They're not as bulky as other large birds like the emu or ostrich but they still have some wicked claws that can mess you up if they feel threatened but they'd really rather be left alone.
