  • A few months ago, I pulled the motor from my Miele W4800 (North American market) washing machine because everything appeared to work well, except the drum wouldn't turn - at all! When I had the motor out, I admired how robustly it was built, so I filmed it in detail.
I don't take it apart, but I do disassemble the "generator" which is part of a mechanism at the non-business end of the armature shaft covered by a plastic cap. Underneath it there is a permanent ring magnet secured to the armature shaft which revolves inside a series of wire coils. I spin the armature shaft with a drill to see what kind of voltage it sets up in the little coil.
The motor is a Miele model MXT 40-66/2 which Googles to almost nothing useful. The alternate number is 6028751, which provided more hits.
In the final analysis, there turned out to be an open circuit where the wiring harness's connector attached to the motor's 10 pin connector. One of the wires had worked its way loose and separated from its contact pin.
Edit: A year later and the connection is still solid. The washing machine is running well. Wanted to add the description of this motor (called a "motor drum drive") found in the service manual (aka Descriptive Technical Documentation - DTD no. 11-4800) in case someone Google's this stuff for some reason. "Commutator-free 3-phase asynchronous motor MXT 40. Toothed V-belt."

1:14 Hi, that's a tachometer generator, or just simply called "tacho" or "tachogenerator". It works on the basis of hall effect, which acts like a feedback signal generator from motor to board to control rpm. your washer motor looks like an induction one, which is an upgrade from normal universal motors typically used in EU frontloaders. Its harder to wire, needs pcb actually, but its much quieter plus needs less maintenance.

      Thanks!
It turned out that one of the lead wires had broken off, so after a bit of fiddling, I got it back into service again. Good, solid unit. Glad I didn't have to buy a new one. I'm sure it would have been very expensive!

Hello everyone, who among you can help me connect it to electricity? I have almost the same motor, but it is of the MXT 30 66/2 model and it has five connection points in the socket, two of which are coated with gray and three others are white. How do I connect the points with electricity? Thank you very much in advance

Hi, I have a similar model and seem not to find the coals, is this one a brushless unit? Got the f53 error and wanted to make sure the coals are alright, just looks different in there than the w2000 series videos. I got a w3000 series machine with the 30/60-2 motor. Thanks for any leads

You are right it is not a brushed motor. These 30/62-2 motors are 3-phase induction motors.
