great demo bro. I've dreamt of getting one of these for a long time, and some day I hope to get it. you give a fantastic overview of this awesome synth. at first glance, it seems under modulated, but you show that it has a lot of depth. aggressive and dreaming at the same time.
Ah...Best demo of Dominion 1 I've seen!👍 Sadly, no one has continued Manfred's legacy😞 The man was so talented...I've kept four of his products, including Dominion SED and Dominion 1😄
Thank you so much! It really is a great loss having no more Herr Fricke, but Uwe George (who, as you probably know, co-designed the Dominion 1) is still designing synths, so there's hope that the MFB legacy can continue in a new form. Here's the Sonic State segment on Rides In THe Storm: ruclips.net/video/vzL8llqWQE0/видео.html
I absolutely love this synth and feel lucky to own one. I've used many synths but this one has such a charm to it and it's very powerful! It took me ages to save for one but definitely worth every penny! It's one of the only few new synths ive found that has the nostalgic quality of old synths from 40+ years ago but also has impressive digital controls and up to date power. The keys are great too. None of those silly small keys you get on some new synths.
Thanks for giving it a good demo. I love my Dominion 1. It’s my favorite synth. I have some vintage, and certainly some more capable, and I hate those bloody ribbons. But I will never sell it. It’s always connected. It brings me so much joy. It makes even the most simple sounds simply delightful. It is harsh, strange, it purrs. It beat out a Model D and Sub37 for space in my studio. The only synth I wanted more was an Oberheim TvsPro. But that could not go to the places the Dominion could. The Dominion’s dominion is far reaching. It’s a shame these are out of production, and that MFB is no more. What a triumph of a machine.
Thank you, and what a beautiful message. I agree with everything you said, right down to the (now weirdly wrinkly in my model) ribbon strips. It always exceeds my initial plan for a sound, and always inspires me to something bigger, or sweeter, or stranger, or gnarlier than i planned. Yep, it's bloody great. Mine is currently living above the Trigon 6, and they seem to get along well.
I am a lucky owner of a Dom1. It's a great sounding synth. And now I know its possibilities. 😁 Thanks for this amazing video. Much better than reading a manual. 🙃
Nice demo, thanks. New owner here and love it. Great sounds, nice keybed and the most logical layout with a manual, that almost work as a handbook for synth, giving you full control after first reading through.
Still the best 8bit analog synthesizer around. ;-) If you like the more melancholy character of the Dominion 1 you need to check out Nick Batt at Cymru Beats 2016. And you might also enjoy the little big polyphonic brother of the Dominion the Synth Pro.
Thanks for the Synth Pro tip, I saw some demos when it came out, but I might go back and check it out again! And yeah, we love that performance by Nick, in fact it was his original demo on SonicState that really sold the Dominion to us. He's a great synth player.
Yea I was gonna buy a synth pro but bought a second dominion 1 because mine was getting repaired and I was missing it to much.thinking oh yea I got time I will buy one in a bit.then the rug was yanked out from every mfb fan when manfred was gone and mfb was no longer.now the synth pros are 3 times the price on the used market.i plan on getting a trigon and hoping it compares
That versatile filter section, and the audio rate/ringmod capabilities, a very nice sounding synth
5:11 Buchla !
I got this baby from Germany when it was in production, one of my best purchases
This is such a good and complete review. Great work thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you very much! I hope you can get your hands on one soon. It really is special.

What a terrific demonstration! Your knowledge of this synth is a wonder to behold.
Thank you so much!
KLANGEROUS 😍 love it
I didn't want another synth but now i do.
Good luck finding one, they rarely come up for sale and aren’t cheap :/

Thank you very much it's my pleasure, and congratulations for having one in your life!
great possibilities with this synth..wow!
Amazing demo !
Thank you!
That’s a nice synth :)
This review is actually the best owner's manual for this synth, far better than the pdf/paper one provided with the Dominion 1
Thank you so much!

That's great to hear, when I last looked they were pretty hard to come by, so congratulations for your find. A glorious synth!
I remember I didn’t even have to hear it.if it sounded half as good as it looked it would be amazing and what do you know it is.

Realising this synthesizer has made my weekend..
WHAT A BEAST.
What are some still available alternative synths to this ? Monopoly ?
✌️ ☮️
A Monopoly would be good, IMO.
Great demo! Do you know how to make an INIT patch? (Maybe it's just manual mode and turn everything off)
I don't, actually... I've always just gone with manual mode... I don't think it's mentioned in the manual either, but I may be wrong...
There should be a LAW that states- ALL SYNTHS, NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL, MUST ALWAYS HAVE, AT LEAST DELAY AND REVERB!!
