A Japanese robotics start-up has developed spider-like robots to inspect and maintain the country’s sewer pipes as the country grapples with a labour shortage in the industry. Tmsuk created the SPD1 with eight legs resembling a spider, enabling it to crawl across sediments commonly found in sewer pipes. Tmsuk plans to put the robot on the market after April 2024.

Imagine having to go into a Japanese sewer in the future unaware of this and suddenly a gigantic robotic spider comes crawling towards you. 😂
imagine one of those crawl outta yo toilet and snap a photo of your chocolate starfish

Ghost In The Shell bots
Japan really loves their spider type mechs. Ghost in the shell, 86 even Peni Parker.

* David Attenborough narration: * Above the ground humans are busy living their ordinary lives, but under it wages a war between rats and robots for the leadership of the sewers.
You can always count on Japan to bring anime to life. These little spider bots look like a shrunk down version of the police bots from the Ghost in the Shell series.
Hahah, glad I'm not the only one thinking that when I saw the robot.
Same! I just instantly sees them as these funny GiTS robot!

If you can afford it, the cost of living in Japan is high.
@@billdavis7577 maybe if you're a foreigner the cost of living is high but maybe if you're a Japanese born in Japan, i think you get a lot of benefits.. i also saw a clip where Japanese government would monitor every fat japanese on their 40's and would mandatorily go for rehab to prolong life...
@@patricknotstar176 Usually the opposite. Foreigners who are able to move to Japan generally already have a lot of income at disposal and they get the added bonus of being able to work remotely for a U.S based company where their pay is higher.
Gives me vibes of the Tachikomas in
Ghost in the Shell.
Yup, sewer Tachikomas.
@caroldorazio1038 @drakthedp2667
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I was thinking the same thing.
Even in the sewers they still sacrifice themselves.

America: Can you put a gun on that?
Remember the Tachikomas from Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex? This might very well be their predecessors.
If this model is upgraded to be able to be integrated into the national defense agencies then we'll probably get to see a Major Kusanagi leading them as well later on lol
Even better will be once pipes are designed with these things in mind. Spirals instead of right angles, and maybe a track on the top inner surface of the pipe for grip and power. It becomes possible to use a lighter weight, cheaper pipe once you can inspect and clean regularly

"Mom!, there is a spider coming out of the toilet"
The spider : 🤖🕸
It's only a matter of time when Robots roaming the streets of Japan becomes a norm. ♥️
I guess at this point all the drone tech is already developed, they just needed to find the articulation that works
Birdbot is pretty promising but it only works for two legged robots sadly
but pipe would realisticly slimy and wet, and not every pipe is a straight pipe, some are crooked, maybe pointing down, how is this solve that?
Interesting!
This possibly is the works of a stand!
A real Tachikoma! C:
Very Nice
Your friendly neighborhood SUPAIDAMAN.
Finally the new patch for sewer dungeon have special enemy
Cool, I want one! I'll send it over to the neighbor, spiders freak her out. Are they on Amazon?
It would be nice if they advanced the technology the guys who have to maintain those sewers use to maybe improve their quality of life and make the job less undesirable. My dad has repaired sewer lines for 20 years, and there's no way those little robots can do the skilled labor necessary for most repairs.
and so we see a raspberry pi module on it…RPi’s were meant for us hobbyist and thikerers, now it has become a consumer electronic part…hence we get shortages and crazy costs😢
Maybe in not-so-far futures, Japan will have real-life tachikoma bot lol
And then, when the ai apocalypse happened, these machines were sent underground to search for humans

Creepy crawlers?? More like *kawaii* ❤
Wouldn't be just like using a camera snake??....... 40k $ camera snake that still needs an operator so how does that help with the labor shortage?? And he said the lifespan of the pipes are 50 years. They gonna need a robot to replace pipes ,they already know they need to replaced.🤔
MGSR once again predicts the future...though...they are a bit off
