IMO the 5205g is a modern masterpiece, one of the most beautiful watches ever created by any brand. The complexity of the case and the sector dial is sublime.
I agree completely. Admittedly, I’m biased because a few months ago I purchased the same reference as in the video (5205G-010). Ever since I got that watch I can’t bring myself to wear any of my other watches. I wear it on a Delugs cut-to-size textured rubber strap and it’s such a comfortable and versatile daily wear.
@ I have a 5205g with blue dial on a blue alligator strap…staring at it on my wrist now. I have a collection of 10 beautiful watches, but without question this is the most beautiful. I might someday get a 5205r (rose gold, green dial, green strap), just because I am so obsessed with this design. I also feel the AC is a “better” complication than the PC. A PC never gets to flex its muscle, it will be serviced a dozen times before 2100. 😂 AC+chronograph might be the absolute pinnacle for me…5905.
@@enlilannunaki9064 Well, a PC gets to flex its muscles every year, in the transition between February and March. A “secular” PC only gets to show off in 2100. But for me, I think an AC is good enough, especially if the alternative PC doesn’t have a running seconds hand. I love the 5140, for example, but I think I would find the lack of a seconds hand disconcerting.
Excellent presentation of some stunning watches. Thanks John for highlighting these superb examples. Keep up the great work. Look forward to a new podcast or two appearing soon …
John these videos are some of my favorite in the industry - Thank you for providing such a great resource for all things Patek. That 5396 is my favorite of the bunch, and downright tempting at its price point. I'm curious to see where the 5140 goes from here given how the interest in 3940s has grown in the last five years.
Great video. I'm a big fan of the 5205 and you're right about it currently being a relatively"affordable" complicated Patek. In that same neighborhood of price point is the weekly calendar complication. What are your thoughts on the 5212A?
Thank you for your kind comment. The ref. 5212A Weekly Calendar has always been a Collectability favorite as it is one of the most exciting of Patek Philippe's modern offerings. With its unusual complication, handwritten-style dial, and brand-new caliber, the ref. 5212A seem like a departure from Patek Philippe’s traditional offerings, yet the ref. 5212A still has many iconic elements of the brand’s past, especially with the case construction and design. We have offered a few of these beautiful pieces recently so keep an eye out on our site!
Thank you for your comment. Keep an eye out for time-only Patek Philippe watches as you never know what you might find under $10K. It is becoming more of a challenge because more and more people recognize the value of pre-owned and vintage Patek Philippe watches. Patek Philippe pocket watches still offer the best value as it is easier to find one of these works of art for under $10K. Good luck with your treasure hunt!
I feel the 5070 and the torneau case will most likely be the jewels out of all of those, we can talk about horology all day which I freaking love but decision making will ultimately boil down to beauty.
The ref. 5140P sold very quickly, as is often the case with sealed pieces. Keep an eye on our site as we're always on the look out for exceptional Patek Philippe watches.
One small correction: the 5205 does not have an instantaneous date change. I know because I own the same reference in your video (5205G-010). There is a Grand Complication perpetual (with a minute repeater, I think) that has a similar calendar windows layout that does have instantaneous date change.
Great catch and you are 100% correct! The 5205 has a “dragging” date mechanism. It begins to move at midnight, and it finishes the jump and centers the number within the date window by 1:30am. Thank you for watching for pointing out my error.
Indeed, the Grand Complications reference you mention is the 5207 -- in addition to the instantaneous perpetual calendar and minute repeater, it has a tourbillon escapement. Pretty sure the 5207 debuted in 2008; it was first offered in a platinum case, followed by rose gold and now white gold cases. It is absolutely stunning in my view and I love how clean the dial design is for such a complicated watch. Congrats on your 5205! That is a beautiful model and apertures are such an elegant way to display the day, date, and month.
@@johnreardon3158 Thank you, John. I never miss any of your videos. Your encyclopedic knowledge of Patek and your enthusiasm for the brand and watches in general is contagious.
That's right, sell all Pateks before Cubitus finishes finishing the whole company, the most spectacular finishing we'll ever see 😂 finishing on a speed dial 🤣
Always a pleasure. The 5140g is my favorite of the bunch, always loved that reference. Thanks John & Co..

5205g is the best annual calendar PP has ever made

The 5135G is my favorite of today's watches.
Lovely content - are there any lesser known pre owned patek Philippe references apart from the calatrava with a budget of under 10k USD

The CEO of Patek needs to step down as he has alienated a huge group of potential buyers with his ignorant remarks on the cubitus
Every. single. piece. is a heavy hitter.
Why don't you mention prices as well?
Thank you for suggestion. Prices are available on our website.
Thierry Stern, the CEO. is turning into a liability for the brand.
@@VibrantMango i won’t give them a penny
I don’t own one and according to patek

So how about some Vacheron videos
Can you show me on this teddy bear where Thierry hurt you?
