Saw them TODAY at Cantigny Park in Illinois---Wayne ROCKED the place, which is usually filled with very conservative wealthy people. He had them running all around dancing and cheering! QUITE A SIGHT!

Saw them in the Quarter for the very first Zydeco experience in Summer of 2002. What a show. Just a little old FC bar...

That accordion player shreds...maybe he is the best. But that vest instrument is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I couldn't even hear what it sounded like. What is it even called?

The washboard? They make an amazing sound! Its very much drenched in history and tradition when it comes to music!

Washboard (see links below). The version he has is built from the ground up as an instrument but it was originally just a washboard that they used to scrub dirty clothes on back before washers and dryer sets. They were made of metal and, often, a kind of thick glass with bumps on it. People would strum over the bumps with metal thimbles on their finger tips to get a kind of scratchy rhythm line. Sort of like maracas in Cuban and Mexican music if that makes any sense.
