  • Today I’m going to revisit Streets of New Capenna with a set booster box opening!
    One of the the things that makes these boxes unique is The List was specifically curated down to 68 cards with 9 of them being Stranger Things Secret Lair variants!

    Man.. soon as you brought up the Shadow as a battle winner, I remembered POA… F in the chat!! Anyhow, solid box and congrats on the big hit!

      That was ROUGH. My heart sank just watching it!

      Saaammme… I can never like the Shadow card based on that viewing experience alone. It was a good box though.

    Really enjoyed the opening. Had no idea when I got up this morning what I needed was a SNC vid.
    This was easily my favorite standard set from last year. Granted, that's all from an aesthetic standpoint, but I loved that Wizards had the guts to make what is basically a 1920's Chicago gangster set, fully aware that it would put off many. For sure a shame the value fell off a cliff, but that's just how it goes sometimes. The guilded foils in person are still beautiful, and I'm not a big fan of foil in general.
    I wish I had some money to blow when these where $85. If you pulled three Triomes, a LS or Hearse, a couple of decent mythics, and a list hit you paid for the box easy. To be fair, if you miss the big rares AND don't hit a list you are going to poundtown hard. But those are the risks in opening a box! Thanks for the vid Wildcat!

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Thematically, Capenna is a fun set/plane. I think multicolor themed sets are always a little tougher on value because many of the cards can’t just be jammed into any ole deck. Like any box opening, you can definitely go to pound town because it’s not a deep set at this point. But the way The List is set up in this set definitely helps increase the chance of getting something of significance.

    Dude, speaking of the list, I had 2 regular ONE bundles gifted to me and I had 3 list pulls out of the 16 packs. Sword of Feast and Famine, Blightsteel Colossus, and Phyrexian Altar. I was in awe.

      Uhhhh that is home run quality pulling right there! Incredible and congrats! 🤯

    I'm still waiting for the day when I can weave the beautiful story through a game of Magic of how Frodo took the One Ring to Mordor, armed with only his trusty New Capennan lightning tommy gun, and then threw Starscream into Mount Doom to blow up everything but himself and his favorite Blightbelly Rat. That will be the day.
    Some folks say that the immersion of the fantasy genre of the game was broken starting with this set, but once during Kaldheim I crewed a funeral long boat with a 1/1 bird and then crewed a mine cart with the boat and then gave the boat an axe. At the end of the day, we play for the memes and I think that's just fine. 😁
    Nice to see some SNC! Maybe a CLB draft in the future? 👀

      I need you to know that I legitimately laughed out loud reading your post.
      Using a 1/1 bird to crew a boat that you then equip with an axe… truly Magic as Garfield intended. I am 100% in favor of doing it for the memes. 😂
      Oddly, I almost cracked a CLB Set box for this video so revisiting Baldur’s Gate is on my list!

    I really liked this set because of the flavor and artwork. I wish this just took off. I think I’m time it will be a great set to have sink money into

      It is a cool theme. Very different than other magic sets. It’s very much a sleeper as a long term stash at an affordable price point.

    This is the set that got me back into Magic. I love the art and the Trilands are pretty sweet. I used Broker's ascendancy in my arena deck with Disciplined Dualist. Devilish Valet is another fun one with tokens.

      The trilands are a huge plus for the set long term. Broker’s ascendency is a sweet card that I need to tinker with more.

    Not a bad box, even without hitting the chase rares. I wish WotC had taken the lesson of this List and applied it to other sets, and you I'll beat that drum until it's broken. I look forward to getting blown out by Outlaw's Merriment in the near future!

      Absolutely agreed on WoTC repeating the formula with this version of The List for other sets. I really want to try Outlaw’s Merriment but I feel like it’s slow…. I’m still going to give it a go but it may get cut quickly. 😂

    So was this box better then the boxes you opened when it first came out? 🤔 Some nice hits especially of the list WildCat 👍

      It weird how different the focus is on cards are from this set now vs. when it came out. Bootlegger Stash and Ob-Nix were originally the only thing that mattered. Now they’re the after thought. So my box opening experience with this product is super different now. This was a good box though!

    i pulled an anointed procession on a random new capenna pack i bought once. didnt even realized it was such a big pull at the time

    • @WildcatMTG
      @WildcatMTG  Год назад

      When the set first came out Procession was down to like $20 but has since climbed all the way back to $45. It’s a very good card for token strategies!

    there were way too many commander cards in this set. it made it extremely difficult to pull what you actually wanted to get for standard.

    • @WildcatMTG
      @WildcatMTG  Год назад +1

      There is a huge commander presence in this set which also irks me a bit. It drove me way more crazy in Dominaria United though…getting the same Legendary creatures over and over and over again.

    I liked New Capenna, but that is from the point of view of someone who didn't get to open or play with it. So my opinion probably shouldn't mean much. I will say this, and it may be unpopular. After IMH's and Vow's full art lands and specially the Kamigawa full arts, the Capenna basic full arts didn't wow me.

    • @WildcatMTG
      @WildcatMTG  Год назад +1

      A thematically cool set that is quite different than pretty much all other magic sets. It’s medium powered. It’ll probably age pretty okay. Comparative to the full art lands before and after them, the art deco lands are cool but far from “omg!”

    • @BucketOfFail
      @BucketOfFail Год назад

      @@WildcatMTG Yeah. I think the lands and maybe the set as a whole suffered because of what came before it. If Cappena had come before Neon Dynasty maybe it would have fared better.
