HOW HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF JANIS JOPLIN!?!?!? She was big with Jim Morrison (from The Doors) and Jimi Hendrix! Janis is my Queen Goddess. MORE JANIS! You want to react to Cry Baby, live in Toronto 1970.
In 1969, my wife and I went to an Atlanta nightclub called Soul City to see Joe Tex. Near the end of the first set, there was a commotion at the entrance and in walked Janis and her entourage. With us sitting less than 15 feet, they did a 2 and 1/2 hour jam session. AWESOME!!!
@Mike Forti I did it for 4 years.. it never killed me cuz I dosed myself properly...but that was before fentanyl was around...u can't does that shit proper.. it's death
I spoke with Janis after a concert for a few seconds...she was really friendly even though she had things to do and places to go. She died a couple of months later, and I'll never forget that small talk.
Have you watched her 'Ball and Chain' performance at the Monteray Film Festival. She BLEW the audience away. She even floored the fellow bands in the audience.
Absolutely 👍 stay on that channel the soul and blues that came out of that woman is heaven a crying shame we lost her 💔 to early RIP 🙏 keep rocking India
Definitely read your comments. She's totally addicted here. One of the most iconic and influential people in rock... DEFINITELY watch a version of this song when she was younger. It's amazing. To die before 30 due to drugs and alcohol is so sad! That was the 60s! She changed music forever.
Saw her live in SLC, Ut in I think 1970. She put on an amazing show. She was known to drink a fifth of Southern Comfort during her performances and she did that. She had a sad personal life and we lost a huge talent way too soon due to that.
I just found your channel and I’m so glad I did! You are an amazing person! I love your reactions-so honest and heart felt!! This is my favorite channel now. I stayed up after 3am watching you!
Never heard from Emma Franklin, until today, 50+ yrs. After. We must remember her. You can't really say that Janis is the female Elvis Presley of the 20th century, because their lives were different in so many ways yet in so many other ways they were very similar. She died at 27, and is still remembered to this day. Not unlike Elvis who passed away seven years later and is still remembered to this day. Both were grander than life. Both had no equal. And both had a major influence on music in the mid-twentieth century. Janis gave more than a piece of her heart. She gave all she had.
In 1968, A Marine played her songs over and over and when she came to San Diego we went to watch her perform. It was a garage like setting auditorium and wow, what a voice. Was within an arms reach.
This was the worst version of hers to review. She is missing high notes and there is too much stuff going on around her. There is a better live version that is perfection.
There is a video of Janis doing this same song from the "Rockumentary" movie film of the "Monterey Pop Festival" in 1967 I think. The Who...Jimi Hendrix...Eric Burden and The Animals. And lots more! What a time to have lived in and experienced.
Just found your channel, and I'm loving your reactions to all these old greats - Janis, The Guess Who, Neil Young, and on and on... It's great to see someone being exposed to these for the first time. To put it into perspective, I was 19 when this song happened. These songs are my youth, and it's nice to be reminded of it every now and then. Thanks.
She died so young. One of the best singers of her day. She still is. Love her. She is missed but not forgotten. Hole she found the peace that she was looking for
Live Janis Joplin can be pretty rough -- as mentioned by others, she was a heavy alcohol and drug user, and a lot (but not all) of her performances are affected by that. Try the studio version of this song, or just about any other one of hers; they're all pretty good. My request: "Try."
I agree. As well I think today female performers are styled and made up to the hilt. Janice is without makeup and back then the only 'product' we had for hair was "Tame Rinse" and hairspray. LOL. Also love Janis' version of "Maybe".
Having been raised in central California, we all knew about Janis and others before most of the USA. For instance, since my sister was dating one of the members of a band performing at Monterey during the first rock festival there "Before Woodstock" I still remember sitting on Mama Cass eating an orange. She was really nice to this 10-year old. Regarding Janis... she and Jim Morrison had a total friend with benefits relationship going on and would like to believe that if they had both made it past their drug years... they would have built a magnificent playlist. Thank-You for the video India.
I think every thing you do on your sight is great sorry I don't always say so I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. You are awesome and a beautiful young lady keep up the great work 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Yes!!!! If you want to hear her sing n feel her heart lister to her album The Pearl lol i am old school check it out. You will understand she was what we say she had real raw talent. The raw raspey voice . I would have loved to see her n Jimmy Hendricks perform together back in the day there were legends in their times!!!😳🎉🎇🎉
Emma Franklin does a beautiful version of Piece of My Heart, at The Soup Kitchen in Detroit in 1992. She has horns, strings, percussion and back up singers. Absolutely my favorite version!! And I love Janis!!!
Janis Joplin cut her musical teeth as a blues singer, and she became the one and only Queen of Rock and Roll. She was a beautiful person with a big heart. RIP Janis.
I played her album "Pearl" for my mixed roommate from New Jersey when I was in college. He listens to the whole thing silently, and then says to me, "I can't believe that was a white woman!" :D :D :D :D :D
@Blondie053 Darling, it isn't meant as a racist comment, you're putting 2019 views on a different era - 1968 was way different & Janis Joplin was a unique sound experience amongst female singers at that time. It surprised a lot of people to learn she was a tiny white woman with such a powerful performance & presence. RIP Janis Joplin - we miss your unique style and sound❣💚💖❤🧡💙
Now please listen to "Summertime" from the "Cheap Thrills" album. That's my favorite song by her. Also "I Need a Man To Love" and "Ball and Chain", which is one of her most hardcore blues songs.
She died in 1970 at the age of 27. She was from the river delta in TX. Soul and blues and gospel is the sound that defines the region (I was stationed there for 4 years while I was in the service).
I agree with some of the other posters. Listen to the version on the Cheap Thrills album. Janis (aka "Pearl") had a tough early life. She died at 27. Some of us still have not gotten over it. Can't wait for you to hear her rendition of Summertime from Porgy and Bess. Btw- Melissa Etheridge did a performance of Piece of My Heart on the Grammys right after she completed chemotherapy . She absolutely KILLED IT. Look it up if you like.
Shes the best ..Janis.. On this performance..she was not at her best..but even then..i loved it....at Janis Joplins best.. Shes unbeliveabal .one of a kind...none can touch her pashion..man nor woman.! 🌷
When music was real and honest - miss those times !! By the way, see the movie: the Rose!! based on her life - One of Bette Midlers greatest performers !!!!!
100 likes I’ll do more of Janis 😍

Wow!what a sweet memory!
I am an Atlanta native but that’s before my time. I wish I could have experienced it tho
OMG.
She is another one of the unfortunate members of the 27 club, a long list of performers who died at the age of 27.
Paul D,Correct, you either Loved her...or hated her! So many,Loved her!
Keep going Janis show these bitches
The greatest blues/ rock female singer ever. Sadly, we lost her back in the early 70s at age 27.
Drugs and alcohol will have you looking old, loved her music RIP Pearl

Janis is heart and soul. This recording doesn't do her justice. She is legendary.....try Me and Bobby McGee, Summertime, and best of all Move Over
Unfortunately, you picked the wrong version. The best version of "Piece of My Heart" is from Janice's "Cheap Thrills" album.
@Mike Forti I did it for 4 years.. it never killed me cuz I dosed myself properly...but that was before fentanyl was around...u can't does that shit proper.. it's death
All of her songs on "Cheap Thrills" are the best versions.
@@porflepopnecker4376 Agreed!
She was SO messed up here! Need to hear the album version to appreciate the song
