  • Belonging and being valued are fundamental human needs. Inclusive leadership helps address these two crucial needs and enhances performance, collaboration, attendance, and reduces turnover. This life skill is helpful for everyone, yet it is imperative to create cultures, schools, teams, and organizations that drive equitable outcomes for historically marginalized and minoritized people. This talk will examine a four-part, iterative, reflective, and reflexive framework for developing into an inclusive leader. Consider this a green light to hone a working lens and essential practices that center diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and justice. Dr. Meagan Pollock envisions a world where personal and social circumstances are not obstacles to achieving potential and where kindness, inclusivity, and conservation prevail. As an engineer turned educator for diversity, equity, and inclusion, Meagan focuses on engineering equity in education and the workforce. Her company, Engineer Inclusion, helps people intentionally and systematically engineer equity and inclusion into their organizations: driving positive outcomes and effectively supporting employees and the community. An international speaker, teacher, engineer, and equity leader, her mission is to provide services, tools, and resources that inspire awareness and initiate action. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Considering leadership separate from management is both lucid and novel! Bravo.

If you are a leader and want to create the right environment or you want to have a roadmap on both leadership and business structure, please explore Competing Values Framework. If you are young I suggest you ask for job shadowing opportunities. It is like a Lean practice of standing in a circle, which in this case is replaced by a "shadow" of someone who plays a critical role. You are allowed to assist the person you are shadowing as a way of saying "thank you for being transparent". Do not take any work that breaks the shadow, unless for a very short period of time.

When I hear a person talk about inclusion, I am 100% certain they do not believe in inclusion of thought. God forbid you think differently from them!

Uhh, the whole idea of being an inclusive leader is to hear ideas from people that might have a different perspective than you.
