    This turned into a longer session than expected.
    Had a lot of fun blasting GameBoy tunes through the TimeLine and I gotta say that the Nanoloop Mono has a very pleasing sound and fun work flow.

      spaceman1980 Thanks! I used the Sony A7 III with the 18-55 kit lense, filmed flat and color graded in Premiere, love that someone noticed the grading :)

    Another great looking DMG! You make me wish I hadn't sold my Mono, but I was pish at it. Always more of an LSDJ/MGB guy. You make this sound so great though.

      What does “being pish at” mean? I guess you’re about to expand my vocabulary. Which is a good thing :)
      Also: never tried LSDJ but I really really want to. Any cheap flash cart you’d recommend?

      @@vvlvmusic haha. Ah... that's Scottish slang for... being rubbish at something. Moderately offensive. Probably.
      Definitely check out LSDJ. I'm not sure what the best flash carts are now as I've got a pile of old ones. EMS 64MB USB things. BenVenn has a bunch of cheap ones... the important thing is to make sure you can save, as many of the flash cards have weirdo sav behaviour. bennvenn.myshopify.com/collections/flash-carts

    I have to say, this is amazing! I am looking at your screen (I am learning nanoloop mono) and I dont understand how you got one channel going at a lower pace. I see the step sequencer going slow in one channel then fast in another. How did you get those arps? Super cool track, subscribed!

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it. You can half, quarter and eight the playback tempo of each part. It’s in the last menu point on page 2, where you’d also sync Nanoloop. I *think* it’s A plus Down to change that. The arps i sadly can’t remember from the top of my head. But I’ll go back to Nanoloop Mono eventually.

    Hey, I am liking your nanoloop mono videos, i just got a copy a few days ago and I instantly fell in love.
    Quick question, how do you "chain patterns"? Are you doing it in the "file menu"? Because I didn't see anything about it in the manual, and in "song mode" the song stops if you leave song mode... so I am confused.

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  5 лет назад

      Did you also get the mono? Awesome. Yeah, if you leave song mode, playback stops. Which is why I tend to switch live between patterns instead of using the song mode. Haven’t found a better way around. But it you do, please let me know as well ;)

    Is this on one of your albums on bc? Extremely chill.

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  6 месяцев назад +2

      Unfortunately no. On BC I usually only release full tracks and this felt too jammy (although I really like it a lot myself). Maybe I should compile an EP and edit the tracks into a nice length etc…

    I can reccomend a prosound mod, it will remove a lot of the noise

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks. I’ve modded it since. But I do think the prosound mod does take away a bit oomph in the bass. That may just be me tho.

    My Nanoloop looks different. No hole in the center. Different version I guess. Mine sadly also crashes all the time so I don't use it much.
    You did some nice music here with it. Not always easy to do. The sequencer is not the most intuitive.

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  5 лет назад

      This is the Mono, maybe you have a different model?
      Sucks that it crashes tho, hasn't happened to me yet.
      Have you checked the Nanoloop Facebook Page? Oliver Wittchow, who made the Nanoolop, is active on there, too, maybe he can help.
      The sequencer takes a little get used to, yeah.

      What kind of game boy are you using? I believe some versions don't work with certain gameboys. Otherwise, pushing the tempo too fast can make it crash too, i think.

  • @256k_

    yo man great video and great song! I'm sure a loto f that had to do with your pedal, I have the eregular nanoloop 2.7.9 cart for the GBA SP and i wasn't really understanding what did the mono do differently compared to this one (other than work on the DMG)
    I might pick it up now that i saw this.. however im still confused about how "true analog" this thing is... i mean... it's sending data to the gameboy chip to produce sounds no? so that's not really analog is it?

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  5 лет назад +1

      Thx for the feedback!
      So here's the thing: yeah, the pedal made it all sound lush and gives it that spaced out vibe. At around 4:30 you can hear the clean signal of the Nanoloop.
      About it being analog: it is more like 90% analog. And that doesn't necessarily mean it's a completely different beast sound-wise, but the signal path is different.
      This is from the Nanoloop homepage:
      On the original Game Boy models, one pin of the cartridge connector functions as audio input, connected to the built-in amplifier. This unique feature allows to generate sound on the cart and play it through the headphone output on a completely analog signal path.
      In the nanoloop mono cart, the analog components (op-amps, comparators, logic cells etc) of a PIC microcontroller are connected and configured in such a way that they form a hybrid soundchip with 3 analog filters and a true random noise generstor, using only a few passive external components.
      Hope that helps. It is a fun cart either way but I also have the one for GBA (and the first model). If you feel like it, check out my video where I use the GBA Nanoloop to make some techno-ish stuff, without any external fx.

      @@vvlvmusic yeah i went back to the nanoloop site to read up more about it... it's not the most clearly laid out site let's say hehee
      shame everything is currently sold out, i was ready to push the buy button.
      thanks again for this video man, I've been looking at buying new gear (elektron octa or digitakt) but your video inspired me to rethink things and try to stick with my gameboys with some external stuff (i need to find something that makes good drums still)

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, the site kinda sucks. Maybe he'll update the store anytime soon, seems unlikely that everything is sold out.
      Good drums in a pocket format... maybe the Volca Drums or Volca Sample might be cool for that?
      I actually own the Digitone and like it a lot but don't use it enough, I am sure the Digitakt is a lot of fun as well.

    • @256k_
      @256k_ 5 лет назад +1

      Adzix // VVLV i has the volca sample before but it was quite limited for me. I spent more time trying to hack it than to play it. I’m considering either the digitakt or a used octatrack as the root point of everything else I own. But I need to sell a bunch of stuff first.

    • @vvlvmusic
      @vvlvmusic  5 лет назад

      Ah alright. Never tried the volca stuff.
      I‘m pretty sure the Digitakt is a good center piece, considering how awesome the Digitone can be for Midi stuff. But yeah overall I totally think keeping it minimal and trying to get the most out of your gear.
