1:00 "What are you gonna do, boss? Fire me?" "No, you will play Famicom games your whole shifts from now on... but only Stargazers. And before you ask, I will not accept your resignation." A fate worse than death.
It's crazy that this one got a Switch port. I love City Connection(The publisher) for doing weird stuff like that. Can't wait for their release of Abarenbou Tengu.
5:18 The reason you don't get exp or gold is because enemies can randomly run away from the fight. That's one more middle finger this game gives to the player, especially since you don't get the ability to run away until later.
Probably the most mind blowing part about the game, is that there is an actual speedrun for it. I forget which event it was in. Either GDQ or Limit Break. But the runner really showed how the game's mess of a code, could be used to go through the game extremely quickly. There's not even a final boss at the end of the game.
@@SuperKlondike64 My mistake. Admittedly it has been a while that I saw the speedrun. I just remember that the runner didn't have to deal with the final boss. Still a very entertaining run.
@@SuperKlondike64 It may have just not been mentioned in the run. I do highly recommend watching the speedrun sometime. It's fun seeing how broken this game can be.
I read about this before in Hardcore Gaming 101, but I had no idea about the password system. It’s like they were designing everything to be slow on purpose. A game literally made to waste your time.
There was an old Japanese page that had a patch fix that made the game playable and improved the graphics. It worked with the incomplete English translation... If only someone could finish it...
This is such a fascinating game to me, it has a cool concept, sentient dolphins, cool enemy portraits, odd but decent music, but the game just doesn't function. I wonder if this game was to solely be a broken cash in on the popularity of RPGs or if they intended for it to be something greater but they were just in way over their heads. Most terrible games I don't bother with if they aren't funny, but I almost pity this game.
The impression I have is Hoshi o Miru Hito was a cash grab. Not just for RPG's, but for the Famicom boom. 1987 was peak "We can release anything and make a ton of money!!" days for the Famicom. If you're interested in utterly broken RPG's, Maka Maka on the SFC might be even worse than this. At least you can watch the ending to this one.
Sadistic devs, that's who! Btw. A full English patch has just appeared in romhacking. You can use it with the japanese patch that improves graphics and gameplay for a playable game!
One of my hobbies is sprite ripping, specifically for the Spriters Resource site. I noticed none of the graphics from this game were ripped, so that means I have to play this game from start to finish in order to get all the graphics dumped properly. It's definitely gonna be a doozy. I mean, I ripped the entirety of Ganso Saiyuuki, so it can't be that bad, right?
@@kamonskye240 Since RUclips won't let me post links, I'm sure you can find them by looking up "hoshi wo miru hito sprites". I also have a link on my bio leading to my page on the site, though you have to scroll _really_ far down to find the stuff from HWMH.
Later on I get really happy when RPGs realized that they didn't have to force players to grind for three hours before they could do anything. But it takes a long time for developers to get there.
1:02 “Yes, I gave this game a 6 out of 10” I’m really curious what criteria they were ranking on and what would count as less than that Those frumpy character sprites in the battle screen and their nothing character designs and nothing story are making me sad. I guess since there aren’t any other platforms this is the famicom equivalent of “bad mobile game”.

Oh man, that password system is absolutely BRUTAL

browsing the famidaily backlog I found this episode.... 'wait this is THAT RPG, right?' yeah I had heard about the reputation.

There is actually a final boss in the game's data, they just never got around to implementing it.

A finished translation came out a few days ago :)
@@evilfreak7 yeah! I tried it with the enhancement patch and they seem to work together!
I mentioned this on another video, but I did complete this. I strangely really like this game, because it is such a relentless meat grinder.

Sonic 2006 had its price increase the same way (and to about the same amount)
I've considered building a "terrible Sonic game" collection but I'm not spending that much on '06.
So bad, it is a punishment! 😢
Why was this game made? Who are the people responsible? Where do they sleep at night?
