19世紀後半から20世紀初頭にかけてパリで活躍したスイス出身の画家ヴァロットンの版画作品。日本の浮世絵の影響も受け、木版画に取り組む。風刺も交えた、デザイン性の高い黒一色の木版画が特徴的で、ヨーロッパだけではなくアメリカでも話題となった。その後は、油彩画制作に集中するようになる。

Hey LAM!
Very nice, and very classically “European,” but a long way from my so very beloved Ukiyo-e, and arguably light years away from the prints of the Taisho era!
Still, very informative, and of course, since it’s “Little Art Museum,” it’s exceptionally well done!
More love for “LAM,” and I’m off to enjoy more of your wonderful work!
You never seem to complain when I make suggestions, so I’m going to admit that I have developed a slightly more than mild fascination with the work of Kobayashi Kiyochika, although I’ve only seen one black and white reproduction of his work (page 143 of Hugo Munsterberg’s “The Japanese Print, A Historical Guide”…
