I was told by an urgent care doc to just take separate medications (like you said here) and only what I need. Usually the combination medications like in Dayquil are overkill so just alleviating the symptoms that impact your life the most is the best route. Not only has this saved money but saved space in our first aid area. I'm sure its also helped our livers/kidneys, especially mine since I already need to take quite a few meds. 😅
As a singer, guaifenesin is my dream come true. Thins out mucus so you can drain it out while your membranes stay hydrated and happy. And, ladies, if you're on BC and have noticed thickening fluids, this is your jam. I just take it straight and with some generic zyrtec and sleep well. But if you want a better drug cocktail for a cold, mucinex is where it's at.
Yes, I used them while I had the flu and none of my symptoms were abated. I even used a Vicks diffuser and cough drops. I was miserable for almost two weeks.
I've found the whole cough suppressant/ expectorant thing to be useful when i both have thick mucus in my lungs (me, an asthmatic whenever i get a chest cold that threatens bronchitis like symptoms) and a cough that won't let me lay down to sleep too even BEGIN to recover The expectorant thins out the garbage in my lungs, but i still need the suppressant so that I'm not coughing out and waking myself up every 45 seconds.
I've always wondered about that cough suppressant / cough expectorant paradox. Intuitively it just seems stupid. Thank you for the heads up about dayquil. It does seem like a rip-off now.
thank you, people’s affinity for the dayquil/nyquil line for any type of sickness has always bothered me. it’s very worth digging into why exactly oral phenylephrine hasn’t been pulled from otc shelves yet-as i recall there is one FDA commissioner that has been doing everything in his power to maintain that oral phenylephrine is still effective. we’ve known for just over 20 years that it is entirely ineffective, and an FDA panel finally declared it ineffective last year, and yet, nothing
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to stop customers from buying Dayquil/Nyquil with Tylenol because they had no idea acetaminophen was in the cocktail. I’ve saved so many livers
Phenylephrine works in a NASAL SPRAY. The problem? It causes rebound congestion if people use it for more than 3-4 days. Use it very sparingly, but it will work well. Just not in an oral dosage.

Omg is my IUD causing me to have snot in the back of my throat when I get sick. I can’t hack up anything
I'm confused, Mucinex and guaifenisen are the same thing one is just the generic.

It helps you not cough your brains out but when you cough it's more productive.

They really need to pull phenylephrine from the shelves!
Right?? What a waste of money

DayQuil and NyQuil Never has worked for me. Now I know why. NyQuil doesn’t even make me sleepy.
WRONG. I usually have a heavy cold for around 10 days, and with Dayquil all symptoms are gone in 3 days.
I cant even take them because of the dyes they load into them and the expectorant. Im allergic to both
Ans yet DayQuil/NyQuil work for me better than Tylenol Cold & Sinus ever did 😐
They have similar ingredients. I don’t like either 😂
Exactly! I much prefer to buy cold meds with individual ingredients and then take what matches my symptoms.
Ill just buy pseudoephedrine.
The heck
