Just wanted to say that I really appreciate your videos and newsletter. While our lives couldn't be more different in many respects (female, early 50's, mom of 5 in the US with a large fruit and veggie garden, etc...), so much of your content can be applied to varied situations. I'm headed back to grad school and trying to figure out how to balance studies, fitness, and family life, AND do that well, and appreciate your approach. Currently reading Cal Newport's How to Become a Straight A Student. Thanks for your work, and looking forward to your book, eventually!

Thanks for this thoughtful message, Catherine! We're not too far apart - I'll be 50 soon enough, and I'd LOVE a fruit and veggie garden. I haven't checked out that one from Newport - worth a go? Will post on here with any progress on a book!

I think the same and my name is also, Katherine 😂. I really enjoy the newsletter and videos, Joel. I’m a 43 year old mother of 11 living in Australia. Keep up the good work!

Yes, always amazed that such informative channels like this doesn't have more subscribers. So difficult to watch, read, and do everything!

Thanks man! Very kind of you to say. I'm always working on improving the quality (which I hope will help with the numbers) - but every positive comment, sub and share helps!

I love this video. I've watched some podcasts with Cal but never really connected with him, but this summation matches my own thoughts perfectly.

Thanks Jon! Do you mean his thoughts on productivity or his vibe? I think he has a tonne of good ideas, but they don't *always* need to be book-length (though his books are very readable).

Currently reading this book and on a serious Cal Newport binge. I've got so much value from his podcast too. Fair play for showcasing his work here. Great content Joel.

I quite like Newports Deep Life Stack ideas. I am currently running through it and am at the stage where i will now look into Control - this is more about taking control of the time and obligations you have. Still figuring out how to do this between work (which is largely agenda / meeting based) and homelife which is where the chaos commences with kids!

how would you use submeta as a white belt to improve at no gi bjj? I've been trying to optimize my use of it, but as a white belt I don't have the foresight and understanding that you do

I'm a big fan of Lachlan Giles AND his teaching style (he conveys stuff in a very thoughtful way) but I haven't actually used Submeta. I've got a video coming on how I take notes for BJJ, but the simplest thing I think you can do is to list out the key positions/subs, and be honest about any you don't feel like you have good options in - then fill those gaps. If that makes sense?

TLDW, can you tell me whether its worth reading or not?

    • @JoelSnape1

If you haven't got 7 minutes to watch the video on 1.5, you won't have time to read the book
