Lanterns: Who Will Be the Main Villain?

- Lanterns Is an upcoming DCU HBO Max show that will feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the lead roles with the latter making his live-action debut. The show won’t be released for a few years but we do already have some details provided to us by James Gunn and Peter Safran that point to the premise and potentially the main villain of this show.

I think Sinestro, Atrocitus and Nekron should be keep for future movies, for the show i would like to see something like the cult of the center being a part of the main mistery and star saphire as a villain to provide a good fight
I agree entirely that villains like Sinestro, Atrocitus and Nekron should be introduced or teased for Green Lantern films, hopefully, if the show is successful enough to warrant a movie to kickstart a film franchise centred on GL. I think The Manhunters and Cult of The Centre make the most sense for the show as both can lead to major stories surrounding GL and the DC Universe. I also loves to see Star Sapphire/Carol Ferris on the show to dive deep into her relationship with Hal and their dynamic and could tease the Zamarons/Star Sapphire Corps as well.
Ive been writing scripts for a GL film saga and have ideas of where they could take a lot of these characters in interesting and compelling ways

@@joshya8416 Actually The Green Lantern Animated Series (2011) episode 23 introduced a whole episode dedicated to introducing the Orange Lantern Corps and Larfleez himself, who is also shown to be pretty powerful. The episode has Hal being tempted by the Orange Lantern battery. You should go watch the show its extremely underrated and one of DC's best gems in my opinion
I kinda imagined the show with having no real main villain, but rather Hal and John + some other Lanterns investigating the big mystery.

@@sheepylee12 seeing how the show is inspired by True detective, William Hand would be a good choice as a villian, as he said his weapon works with lantern gems they can see that people are being killed by a source similar to Oa's power source
I feel like the threat that takes them forward is going to be the White Martian race. Something terrestrial that has a larger impact on the greater DCU doesn’t scream any of the other Lantern Corps, Manhunters, etc. It screams a threat that’s been here for a while and has flown under the radar, and will mean great trouble/war if the heroes cannot stop it. Much like those first episodes of the JL cartoon.
If I have to choose which villain would work for Lanterns TV show, Manhunters are the best option. Their iconic lantern villains that could work in small terrestial setting. You could say they were centered centuries on Earth to deal with "the thing that's going to be important later".
The Sinestro/Yellow Lantern Corp and the Manhunters seems like the Logical Choice.

Damn- if they did Black Hand to set up Blackest Night and Nekron as DCU wide threats it’d be incredible. Only thing is since we haven’t connected to and lost this universe’s heroes seeing any rise from the dead would have zero impact. I think BN works best when they have years of storytelling to pull from, as opposed to implanting it at the infancy of a cinematic universe
It would make sense to do Blackest Night when most of the heroes have died. It'll have more impact when they get resurrected by Nekron. I personally want Ralph Fiennes to play Nekron lol

I really hope this show is great. I can’t wait another 10 years for them to try again with Green Lantern if this series doesn’t work. But hearing that the show will be Earth based is not the ideal start. Hopefully future seasons will be more intergalactic and introduce other Lantern side characters and villains
Me too. I'm at least hoping that this show is successful enough and has the right passion and vision to eventually lead to a bug scale sci epic Green Lantern film. So far Im hopefully, albeit a bit curious to see what this series does, and I have ideas and hopes of how give Green Lantern the treatment they deserve

It makes sense that they would want to start things slow with GL because of the flop of the first Green Lantern film (2011) that didn't have a cohesive plan, not to mention the large budget a GL film would need in order to set the scene of a sci-fi space opera. Ideally starting with a terrestrial-based show does make sense, and allows time to focus on characters and save money on VFX, fully devoting time towards making the CGI look good.
If anything I truly hope the show is successful enough to warrant a film franchise, because Ive been writing my own scripts for what a potential GL franchise could look like

the Leviathan group would make for better Question and Huntress villains, while Evil Star would fit better as a Starman villain, so Hector Hammond would definitely be the best for a Lanterns villain as the cult leader of the cult that worship’s The Center
They could actually add stakes to the Green Lanterns by actually killing some off since the rings are passed on once a Lantern dies. That could be how we see all the human lanterns. And maybe they could bring back the dead ones with a Blackest Night storyline

Fingers crossed they cast Luke Evans as Sinestro because I think he was born to play Sinestro.

I agree they should have Sinestro introduce as a Green Lantern at first and establish his relationship and dynamic with Hal and thus use this tine to develop his character and build up to his betrayal which would be all the more powerful, as Sinestro could be written as an almost Shakespearean character
I know right. He also has the acting ability to play a more sturn and imposing Sinestro while also having the ability yo play a more sadistic and fear mongering Sinestro who believes his crusade to be just, especially if you've seen Luke Evans in Dracula Untold (2014) or No One Lives (2012)
I just want Phantom Lantern to be a minor villain in something,he has so much potential (even though there's no reason for him to be in it,maybe a short film or Standalone movie)
It's gotta be Manhunters. Sinestro and atrocious would work fine for a sequel as they are more significant. Nekron would be great for a big finale for the blackest night inspiration.

It being Set on Earth Hopefully means we'll get Black Hand, It would be a Good way to show us All the Dead characters from the DCU's Past like Rick Flag.
I really hope Larfleeze is in it. I don't think he should be the main villain, but he should at least be there. I feel like that character doesn't get a lot of love.
I like the Manhunters as a first enemy, leading to the creation of Atrocitus for a future season... And the reveal that the Guardians created the Manhunters as a gen'ocide force. This information could be the catalyst that turns Sinestro away from Will and towards Fear.
I honestly feel like Leviathan itself could be the main big bad organization of the chapter, that would be pretty cool.

I think they should first develop Sinestro as a mentor/friend to Hal. Have some wholesome moments between them, like talk about Abin Sur and then have Sinestro betray the corps, would make the whole thing more gut wrenching.
The man hunters remind me of the sentinels from the X-men
Knowing that the Lanterns show is going to be based on Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps comic run by Robert Venditti, makes me scream like a little girl. I freaking love that run on Green Lantern so freaking much, it's perfect.

For me. I think the best villain for the first season is the Manhunters. They serve a colossal role in the GL lore and set up various Lantern villains.
Maybe Sinestro can serve the guardians but have a bit of hidden resentment towards them, but the Manhunters could be the straw that broke the camels back and leads to him finding the Yellow Lantern Corps.
Atrocitus is a direct victim of the Manhunters and that leads to him finding the Red Lanterns.
Here's an idea, have the Manhunters tie into either Hal or John becoming a Lantern. Maybe Abin Sur was traveling to Earth with Atrocitus, but a Manhunter finds and kills him, Atrocitus escapes and goes on a Rampage around Earth until Hal and John capture him. Maybe he could destroy the Manhunter and used its parts to make the weapon William Hands gets ahold of.
I wouldn't mind a tease to Black Hand, however I thibk thry should build up andd establish the other Lantern Corps to then follow up by ending with a bang eoth Blackest Night. Ive even written my own take on a GL film franchise eith six film scripts that build up to Blackest Night as film 5 and 6. I do think the Manhunters would make the most sense as rhe first GL villains because they tie into the connections with the Guardians and act as purely emotionless automatons that can lead up to the arrival of Atrocitus and build up to Sinestro's betrayal, if they are going to take that route.

When they announced the show in referred to the mystery as an ancient horror, I automatically jump to Nekron and Black Hand. I'm hoping that's the case.
Blackest night would be a great villain for injustice 3 due to all the dead heros and villains in that universe
I know that the next Justice League film which is going to be the Avengers Infinity War & Avengers Endgame of DCU Chapter One Gods and Monsters, and that is Zero Hour Crisis in Time!!
The villian for The Lanterns should be The Manhunters. Unfortunately, the ultimate villain of Chapter 1 is going to be The Center.

Then they do god and monsters and kill loads of heroes and do blackest knight we see our justice league facd every dead hero and villain from the phase.

I hope Black Hand is the villain. He’s a really cool character and he has an awesome design. He’s earth based I think Blackest Night would make a great event movie but I do understand it being very Green Lantern based. I think Atrocitus could be a villain for a Green Lantern movie. I don’t think the main villain of this show has to be the main villain of the chapter.
Manhunters, Krona, Guardians, Sinestro, Atrocitus, Blackest Night, Anti-Monitor, Parallax, the Emotional Spectrum. It's all connected man, far out. Personally, I'm hoping for this epic weave of a story with several seasons, and not some woke CW spinoff trash.

With all the talk about the Center being the main villain. What if the cult of the Center is the Kobra Cult. I know the connection between them and the Lanterns in the comics is loose but if it is a cult dealing with the dinosaur island, then maybe the Kobra Cult would be the culprit.
I dont think this show will have A villain, it'll probably be an episodic detective story with new villains every 1-2 episodes like the first 2 seasons of Gotham.

honestly i really hope that theyre not going to do nekron/black hand for the villain of Lanterns, it feels far, far, FAR too early to be bringing them in, especially since theyll be wasting so much potential for the future

Flash's Rogue's gallery is full of great villains that ate pretty underrated in my opinion especially the The Rogue's as their one of my favourite villain teams. Wonder Woman also has a rogues gallery full of potential that could be written with a lot of potential

With the first phase of the DCU titled Gods and Monsters and Gunn teasing that Hal and John would be investigating an “ancient evil,” in “Lanterns,” I think Gunn and Safron are adapting New Frontier as an overall arc to set up a Justice League origin. God and Monsters is the title of a chapter in New Frontier. So the antagonist or ancient evil will be The Center from the mini series or something like it.
