This is the LAST week to sign up for Season 17 of IRP that starts Feb 5! www.immortalroadmap.com/platoon. Thanks for Immortal Roadmap for sponsoring this video!
I always thought of Drx as the speed bump between the top teams vs the weaker teams
I agree. They were missing some things that didn't quite qualify them as world class but were too good to go to the class below
the virtus pro of valorant, to win a major you have to pass the VP test, to win a masters/champs you have to beat the DRX test
The gatekeepers to greatness
It’s so weird. I was a huge fan of DRX and the way they competed internationally was so drastically different than the way they competed regionally. It was shocking watching them make simple mistakes or ego plays they normally wouldn’t have made back home. It was heart breaking as a fan to say the least. I’ve been rooting for them since competitive valorant started and it’s sad to see the longest lasting team finally crumble.

I've started to watch Valorant pro games in 2023 vct lock in, and as a Korean, I'm really annoyed af that they decided to let Rb leave at such late time. The kickoff seasons are coming soon, so the renewal must be sooner as the Valorant is a team-based game.
Rb, who used to be called 'the god of clutch' like in lock/in icebox 3rd round against C9, has played so many agents so far if the team needed. Like, if DRX substitutes Zest with Foxy9, then Rb picks the agent that Zest used to play like Sova, to make the whole team work properly.
I'm not sure that I could just trust the source from liquipedia, but this is really fked up that Rb seems to be the sixth man of his new team. He could show up like normal, though the time that Rb could practice as a Titan Esports Club's player is very low, plus we can't ignore some minor issues like languages.
Although Foxy9 and Flashback are amazing players, I'm kinda sad that now it seems very hard for DRX to get some great grades like in 2022. DRX's playstyle has been 'unique' for 4 years, in other words, it's expectable and the opponents could easily handle. I hope to see them better and more enjoyable to watch again.
I think that they were probably considering the team shift for a while even before Afreeca League, it wouldn't really make sense otherwise. It is likely they saw the tournament as a "ok let's try this style one more time and if it doesn't work we move on".
It's easy to forget that DRX played another offseason tournament just before Afreeca where they played at Red Bull Homeground where they played the 5 that will start the VCT this year. It seems pretty clear that they weighed the 2 performances side by side and preferred the results of the RBHG team.
I am Korean and I just want to see a Korean team do my country proud on the international stage because God knows T1 and GENG ain't doing anything. I hope Termi is able to innovate with Flashback and Foxy9 and at least get back to top 3 finishes with DRX in 2024.
@@_jy1754 The good thing for this year is at least that they are only 5 players instead of 6, so termi can't pull the "we practice the whole year with one squad and then change back to the old squad only for important games" move again.
For the first part you write here, I think it is too familiar for fans who watch LCK. People at our country even consider DRX is not deserved for being a fan with the bad management and the behavior to star players
I probably won’t be a big fan of this vid, as I’m quite upset by the changes (they should’ve changed coaching staff, the players were never the problem) but I must say I’m a massive fan of your content in general! You make such high quality videos, and I wanted to leave you a comment as to stop being a silent viewer. Good job! Keep going :)
Appreciate the support! I'm also sad they broke up but you never know what will happen in the future 🙏
Yes I agree! Each of the players showed they deserved to be in the roster, no less Rb and Zest, but their strategies always looked so stiff recently (unlike how they were inventing new metas with no duelist etc).
yeah especially after last season where they switched foxy9 in every other game it didn’t allow the team to have in depth strata all the time due to them not being able to practice with both players, but when they finally decided to not switch foxy9 in they did good at champs, i believe if they just never put foxy9 in at all and kept all the players THE WHOLE SEASON, they could of gotten at least a top 4 or 3
Rb is so damn good and did a ton for the team they did him dirty
Good video. As a pacific fan, DRX PRX rivalry is always the most interesting part to watch. Hope DRX can get to the top this time.
bro it is most boring thing as pacific fan. may be you didnt watch much.
@@nilakshachandula7185 well, you’re probably right.but I have job to do so I can’t stay up late to watch games anymore.
@@nilakshachandula7185 from 2:0 to 2:3 in final was boring ??
I think your mom is more boring lol
the main reason for these issues mainly trading as you said is because of DRX's horrible coaching, the reason there team cohesion was lacking is because RB and Zest WERE NOT practicing with the main 5 before masters OR champs, DRX had foxy9 and flashback as their starting 5 which they still do they never even changed there roster they just decided to play RB and Zest randomly when the team had been practicing with foxy9 and flashback for months leading up to the events. Its insane the coach for DRX needs to be fired but instead they drop RB and Zest?
If Leagues DRX can pull a miracle run at worlds, Valorants DRX can too 🗣🗣⁉⁉🔥🔥🔥💯💯
My favorite match out of all DRX games throughout the years is Champions 2022 DRD vs Furia. It’s not just because how close it was. It was proven that their team comp was shown how they were unstoppable at the time. I’m sad that RB and Zest are not in DRX anymore because of the off season tournament went down hill. I’m pretty sure D3ffo from team gambit at the time struggles when it comes trading and getting their first blood openings.
Appreciate ur content always produce good content to study as a rank player. I want to go pro and your clip always present the great case study for me! Keep it up man now I’m one of your fans!
The issue I have is that now with Foxy9 and Flashback, Buzz/Stax are going to have to start flexing or learning new agents since Rb was insanely flexible. Stax in particular is now going to have to be the full time Sova player. And I also think Buzz is way more in tune with how DRX play compared to Foxy9 since Foxy9 seems to be a lot more aggro to a fault where he gets ahead of the team at crucial times. Tbh, I don't have much faith that DRX will break their ceiling but only time will tell. Maybe now with Skye dying and double initiator comps becoming a lot more viable, DRX will be be more comfortable but idk. We'll see.
that squad has been playing together since 2019 in csgo
Rb movement on neon will be missed
i think sideshow or someone in platchat said they werent even practicing with the main roster but with foxy 9 in and out of the year management made them look bad so they could have a excuse to drop them
ye 2023 was just a mess for DRX because of the coaching staff trying to integrate Foxy9 into the roster
I do think that they couldve performed better last year if they just stuck with the main roster cause from Champs 2022 and LOCK//IN they had back to back 3rd place finishes until they started messing with the roster
They created so many strats in the early days of pro play, sad to see them broke up
Hi platoon! Thx for your in-depth analysis in every video. I am wondering whether I can translate your video with Chinese subtitle in china video platform and shows your original url. Thx😊
I honestly think THE issue for DRX last year was their coaching staff and the coaches' decisions around players.
The clearest example of this is their fracture. They had a pretty much unbeaten comp with Zest in and Rb on Neon, that they just refused to play for most of the year, only bringing it out for important decider matches.
In general, their decisions about who gets to play were weird. Foxy9 was playing basically every game until it got important when they swapped him out for Zest. It felt like they were trying to build Foxy9 up the whole year, but didn't trust him in big games, bringing in Zest instead who probably didn't scrim with the team much anymore, since he basically didn't play during regular season, and were then surprised that they didn't get as far anymore.
Additionally, when the team was struggling during international games, their coach just didn't use timeouts, putting even more pressure on a team that, again, eventhough they had been together for a long time, hadn't practiced in that lineup for most of the season.
Yes, there were clearly issues with the team adapting to new metas, but I really don't think that the players were the issue there. Yes asking Rb to play literally every single role during the same bo5 looks insane, but the guy can actually make it work. The team could adapt and play a style that looks outside their comfort zone at first, but if you just don't practice with the team that will end up playing your most important games of the year, then no wonder it won't work and they won't trust each other as much anymore.
It is my own opinion, but i don't think that team hit a ceiling at all. I think the main problem was their insistence on playing the meta way. DRX had a very distinct style of play. Set plays. Nobody can pull off the quality of set plays as well and consistently as DRX. However, Termi was insistent on always playing "meta" comps rather than becoming like PRX and finding comps that suit their style more. A good example was DRX vs Fnatic at champs. That was a game DRX should have honestly won. They played their own game on bind and absolutely annihilated Fnatic, one of the best Bind teams. Then they went to a more meta style of gameplay which didn't suit them. TMV said it best when he said that he was so annoyed with DRX that he wanted to erase termi's memory of everything that is meta while keeping every other piece of info andmhe believes termi would have cooked with what he would have been able to come up with. To summarise, the coaching staff lowered the ceiling for this squad unnecessarily despite the ceiling actually being much higher.
DRX, probably the team i would always watch in terms of discipline and strats that they pull off and also a team you can't doubt from coming back. I remember them coming back from a 4-12 against Furia and it was hype af. Also, i hope they change the coaching staff instead of the team because i probably think RB is the most valuable teammate ever in DRX. Love the vids btw!!
it is sad to see as apac fan that apac is always the region who innovates aggressive set plays and still choke under pressure due to counter strat and reads of opponents
babe wake up, new platoon upload
I feel like the changes are a somewhat gambled attempt to break through their ceiling with drastic changes but at the same time has potential to massively lower their floor. It will always feel like we never saw the true peak potential that DRX actually had to offer mostly because of questionable coaching decisions. RB didn't deserve being cut but lets see what they can do this year.
DRX walked the path of discipline. PRX walked the path of chaos.
bc PRX didn’t switch out something and benkai every other game 😭 like DRX did with foxy9
goodbye DRX my beloved❤
Another thing that I'm mad about is that the skye nerfs mean more double or even triple initiator could be played which fit a lot more with thier old roster with 3 initiator players instead of only 1 primary one now
If Platoon coached DRX instead of Termi it would not come to this 😢
im fine with zest leaving but rb is literally the best player in the team, he has everything a high value player has, this move is really braindead imo
Zest was also incredibly important for the team. He was the second caller and gave them some much needed flexibility and took some of the burden off of Stax.
Especially with a coach like termi who just doesn't call time outs, that was super important for them.
@@thesilvanalyst6880 guy is super incosistent tho
@zelkraps5398 Is he? He is usually in the middle of the team in terms of stats, which is fine as a Sova or Viper player.
Also, remember, he didn't practice with the team for the entire regular season and only came in once DRX was facing elimination games.
The team that ZEST belongs to is a team of streamers who are former professional players in Korea.
That's a good point.
Maybe DRX coaches need a change for last vct. They would have wanted to change as a cause for their performance. But the strength of drx ,which is different from other teams, is a member who has not changed since 2021 vct.
After Rb and Zest out, Now drx is not a previous one.
10:15 That MaKo rage gets me everytime😂😂😂
I think one of the main reasons why they looked so incohesive during the AfreecaTV Invitational and, arguably, 2023 as a whole was because they kept on rotating their roster around with Foxy9 and later bringing in Flashback, which resulted in less prep time for the original roster.
I’m upset about the changes they make but you must break both the floor and roof to move past the skill ceiling
never liked DRX but that doesnt mean i wont miss them, its the complete opposite. it was really fun watching them against the teams that i rooted for. hope they get back on their feet!
2:46 yo that's Efina from f4q
TANMAY MENTIONED LETS GO
You could've never looked at DRX and say any of the players stood out as the worst, the roster changes were so unnecessary
such a good team just never at the top, RIP OG DRX
Rb is the best flex player bruh
I personally put Mako among the god tier players of this game. A lot of DRX games I'd watch Mako take fights against superstar duelists and casually win them. The kicker was that frequently these duelists were supported by flashes, stuns, drones, etc and Mako had much less, and he'd still comfortably make impact on almost every round I watched.
All the players in DRX were pretty good but Mako stood out to me. Especially considering that he played smokes for the vast majority of games, Mako's performances were very consistent. It was fun watching an underdog smokes player take fights against heavyweights like Something, Jingg, Yay, and Aspas, and still come out ahead far more than he should.
I'd be willing to bet that if you measured Mako's personal stats against other smoke players at VCT, he'd be a giant in the field.
Wait whaaaat they’re done?! 😭
I miss Vision Strikers bro
without a doubt the uncrowned kings of valorant :(
Being a dex fan, I am annoyed by these decisions. The team was so good throughout their time together but recently when they started changing the roster throughout the tournament, they screwed over their original roster. I think the main problem was the coaching staff all along. Like every player has a problem, every team has a problem but these problems can be solved and a team can get better through right coaching. But the coach wanted to try inexperienced academy players. Look at players like tenz who had some amazing changes in his gameplay because of the right coaching. But thats just my opinion idk about the what actually happened behind the scenes but I think zest and rb didn't deserve this.
Thats what happens when yoh dont have a proper mid rounder.
If zest wasnt the one thay wanted to step down then i really dont get why they dropped him cause id bet hes a huge caller for them especially considering during his time igling drx looked PEAK and absolutely unstoppable on some maps
Rb tho i assume regardless of flexibility didnt provide any value with calling which is what they really needed
if valorant meta not changing fast and so much like cs. maybe drx will be strong team right now.
PRX said it the best on their vlog with DRX in Korea. DRX plays by the same rulebook every time. PRX went the opposite direction, running around and probably not knowing what theyre doing themselves.
Seems like they burned out playing with each other, but it could also be everyone else got better so their explosive style wasn't enough in modern valorant to consistently beat the best
The thing is, we can't really know that, because (one thing he didn't mention) they didn't practice together for basically the entire regular season.
DRX played with Foxy9 over Zest for literally the entire regular season and only switched back to Zest when it came to elimination games.
They just didn't practice together as much as all the other teams had last year and they still only ended up going out at Champions against EG and FNC.
textbook play is not good thing to play its just easy to counterstrat because its same thing just like u study and memorize it and just answer in the exam same question and answer
Rb was always consistent..
Players are top tier but the coach aint good at least my favorite mako didnt leave
rip
The fact that DRX and PRX never won any tournaments and the og DRX will never win will never sit right with me when frauds like Acend won a champions tournament. And zest in pacific challengers league? Like, bruh?
PRX broke them
wew
Algorithm
Based on this stats, PRX is the antithesis of EG 😂
they play textbook valorant, they afraid to try something new, create new meta and be confident
They were good for years so I won't act like they're book smart players. I know what you mean though, play styles/Meta changes and people can start failing to adapt T-T
what drx needed was a new coach. Termi is the problem
I honestly think its a coaching issue for drx.
Optic was just always better
Look like complete nerds
Saying EG is the best team lmao. they are the most inconsistent team ever in franchising. if point system is in 2023 they wouldnt even make it to Champions.
