  • Bing Crosby entertaining the 8th's Air Force's 78th Fighter Group in Duxford, Cambridge (England) on September 2, 1944. One of the songs he sings is "San Fernando Valley", a standard of his war repertoire.
The original footage is completely silent. I have synced a small bit of this video to the sound from Bing's performance of "San Fernando Valley" at the Stagedoor Canteen in London from a few days earlier, August 31, 1944. The footage of that one can be viewed here:
    • STAGE DOOR CANTEEN - ...
The sync is not 100% perfect due to Bing's rhythmically slightly differing performances. At one point during the song he apparently is distracted by something in the sky and briefly comments on it.
The blonde woman is singer and tap dancer Darlene Garner and the man in the dark hat is comedian Joe DeRita, both of whom were part of Bing's six-people touring group. Bing had gotten a slight cold during the previous hard days, hence the handkerchief. The show took place in a light rain, but that didn't keep anybody from coming.
This footage was filmed with a private 16mm camera by a pilot who was stationed there at the time. All credit for the video goes to the owner of this footage, the creator of the RUclips channel "Almost Lost Videos And Audio", who collects rare footage and sound recordings, which you can check out in digitalized form on their YT channel. The original video can be viewed here: • Bing Crosby USO show or in a better quality here: rumble.com/voz...
I have changed the original video by slowing it down to a more natural speed, by turning it black and white from sepia and by adjusting the contrast and brightness at different points in order to achieve a clearer picture throughout the video. No copyright infringement intended.
