April, when I was in Montana's Rockies building a hunting lodge, couple of us made a dog house for a very cold dog, from some scrap! Dog house looked like your, with a single entrance on one side of front! That was not dog house but hallway down to door entrance on inside side wall to prevent wind from entering living area! Then in hallway right before doorway we built a pressure switch pad, so when dog came into hallway he activated a heat lamp inside house! Then when dog walked out he walked over pressure pad a second time an turned off heat lamp! Then to prevent more cold coming in hallway an doghouse we hung plastic & carpet strips, so dog could easily learn house functions! He loved it an definitely became our buddy! Oh, we insulated then doghouse from top to bottom too! Best doghouse I ever seen!
They are obviously not ruff'in it! I built one about nine years ago for three of my outside dogs with two openings and it was 8 ft long 2 ft wide and 2 ft tall. Had an opening at one end and at the other end on the side. They loved it!
April , you worked with my neighbor Mike on the a new maker show with Tim Allen. I can’t believe how far you’ve come. Been watching your videos for a while now. Always enjoy them. Congrats on your success you deserve it.
Awesome job April! Love the doghouse plan. It’s great to see women in trades...my two daughters and my son are all very comfortable handling power and hand tools. Keep up the great work!
Umm, wow. I just watched your interview over on Call Me Mabie’s channel. It’s downright overwhelming what you have accomplished. Now a tv show!? I have been watching your videos since the early days in the little garage with the osb on the walls. I am one of those strangers that is so proud of you. I have a 15 year old daughter now and she is a tough young lady. I know your parents are so proud. I’ve told Anne of All Trades the same thing but I have spent my whole life in the trades. Residential and commercial construction and I find inspiration from y’all. I learn new things from y’all. Thank you for all of your hard work to learn how to make and then to present it to all of us on RUclips! It’s a gift. Anyway, I’m rambling. Amazing journey. I look forward to the rest! 😎🇺🇸
I can't wait when you add the air conditioning , electrical and rain gutters ! Oh and the rain gutter leaf guards ! I sure hope I remember your new show, can't wait to see you in it.
Good design, and well executed. I am glad to have power and heat again after the Central Texas weather fiasco, so I can get a little inspiration from your projects... stay safe
Thank you, April. I'm building a chook house and you've given me enough inspiration to carry on and given me ideas to solve some obstacles. Thank you so much for your videos.
I'm feeling so inadequate. You make it look so easy! BUT--that's inspirational. We have a new pooch that may need something like this. NOT AS FANCY :) But, got some great ideas out of this. Thank you!
Awesome! I do some volunteer work at an animal shelter in Colorado. I want to build a few insulated dog houses for them this winter. This video helps, thank you!
Congrats again on the TV Show. Saw the first episode and it was awesome !! Love the dog house too. Think I'm going to make this one for my little poodle.
I have never done any wood working projects beyond screwing stuff in here or there, and I’m using your video as a rough (ruff?) guide for my insulated dog house for my pooches. Super happy to have found your content, thank you. It’s definitely not easy, but super fun. I’ve definitely got the bug now.
Excellent! It is so satisfying to look at something and know you built it rather than buying it finished. Learn from each project, building upon your experience, confidence and know how. Thanks for watching.
Have wood prices for you in Texas sky rocketed about 6x regular price? Here we used to get 2x4 for about 2.20 each and now its 6.80 each. Many projects I want to get done but I cant afford to even buy the wood!
Great work, amazing talent. Reminds me of some of Norm Abram's projects on the "The New Yankee Workshop" when everything just falls into place beautifully at the end. :)
Been thinking of building something for our little guy. Not sure he'd use it. Just want to say, you did AWESOME on Assembly Required!! SO happy for you!
I have been watching your content for a very long time. Just saw your new interview, just saying, I've never seen you as a great "female" maker. I've always seen you as a Great Maker...
I had Ariat boots when I was riding Little Britches as a kid. The clothes look great. The dog house is beautiful. Having come from snow, wind, rain, I'd put larger overhang up top, overhangs on the doors and a clear flap to bring down on rainy windy days. Or a porch that really keeps the wind and rain from the doors.. (But I can't figure how to have a full porch and still open the roof and reach inside... unless it was two hinged at the top and you reached in from the side. (I'll be mulling over dog houses all day.🤣😂) But it's gorgeous. I'd move in. 😉
I don't mean this in a negative way, but there's some misunderstandings with how wood glue works going on here. PVA wood glue is not going to bond well at all to painted/primed boards. Nor will it do much of anything with an end grain to face grain joint (especially with rough milled 2x stock). It's nothing fatal to the quality of this project, but it's worth pointing out so it can be learned from. There's better adhesives out there for general construction like this.

Old saying "The more people I meet, the more I like my dog.
Good design, and well executed. I am glad to have power and heat again after the Central Texas weather fiasco, so I can get a little inspiration from your projects... stay safe
I know I've said this like 20 times before, but I love how you say saw, and it makes me homesick for Texas.
April I usually cut my sheet goods on the floor; so I place a 2" rigid insulation on the floor first than the sheet good on top.
Great job! Hope your dogs love it. I love those Ariat pants too.
Great video April, great dog house and the dogs are fantastic to. I just love that little girl spirit you have. Makes me feel good. Thanks for sharing

That is a very nice doghouse design. Good job!
April, bought your template for the rocker, just received, starting the build this week
Bedliner over paint on the base will give extra protection, and some better traction.
Great job and keep up the amazing work
Interesting way to get this piece onto there. Definitely made me chuckle.

Looking it makes me confident to build a buffalo house.
What? No insulation, sheet rock and A/C? That is one heavy duty dog house! Great job!
I love this project! What breed of dogs are those? I searched the comments and didn't find the answer.
Get a 4x8 sheet of foam to cut sheet goods on.
Beautiful work, April! Really well done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
thanks for sharing that, good dogs!

Very cool doghouse 🐕
I don't have a dog, but still watched the whole video. I need more patience and detail in my woodworking.
Nice shop
Beautiful house of dogs👍
