Thanks so much, you just saved my sanity with this video, looking at the spool it makes no sense at all. Follow these steps and don’t ask questions. That will get it done, it’s a two minute operation if you do.
I've owned this trimmer for a while now and had no issues with it. However, I did not realize it had two speeds until I watched your video. Nice to know. Thanks!
Thanks Kenny! After purchasing the 80v trimmer and leaf blower combo at Costco last year. I had misplaced the directions and really found it difficult to wind the trimmer. Your video is the best and a saved me that headache moving forward! Quick and easy! I highly recommend this trimmer as well as the leaf blower!
His technique absolutely won't work, it should, but it doest. You have to take it apart and wind it on. I literally returned it after the 5th time I did this. Costco is great on returns, they also said they quit carrying it because of how many returns about the string loading. About 50% of people returned the Greenworks weed eater, crazy.
@todayilearnedsomething8105 I'm sorry to hear this trimmer didn't work out for you. I was very frustrated and ready to return the trimmer myself until I followed Kenny's directions step-by-step, very important. Line up the arrows, thread the line, wind the line. I've had this trimmer for a few years now, and winding the line is no longer an issue. I did notice that Greenworks winding head may have been updated in the past year or so. Hopefully it's more user-friendly.
Thanks for the info, I just watched a video of someone taking the whole head apart to restring and thought...there has got to be a better way. And now I got it!
UPDATE~Found the perfect line for this trimmer! It transforms this trimmer from a tool I can't use to one that I want to use :) Dewalt line .080 x 225ft. part #DW01DT802 (found at Home Depot). This smooth line (not twisted or multi-angle) makes loading a breeze and the bump advance now works perfect. Just get this line & thank me later!
Thanks. Much better than the official tutorial. They never discussed taking the cover off which revealed the tangled string, which was keeping me from feeding more string through.
Love this weed eater!! After I got my greenworks 60v mower last summer, I recently ordered the 60v weedeater. That way I can use the same battery/charger for all my yard equipment. No more fooling around with fuel mixtures/carborators/spark plugs and de winterising my tools

But do wish you'd show how you got the whole thing apart in slo mo cause I had to go back outside and use it another 30 mins. before the other side of the line ran out. This is hard work, at least for me .lol :)

The head on the Greenworks pro 60v ST60L254 is vastly different, do you have a “how to” on changing the string for it? The instructions are not very user friendly.
Unfortunately, if you're an experienced landscaper you'll find it unusable. There is a 3-4 delay between pulling the trigger and the head reaching full speed (vs. instant for gas powered, and also for the Dewalt I demo'd). LOVE Greenworks mower and blower, but had to send this back immediately.
Do you have to restring/rethread like that as you trim to move the string along (during and throughout EVERY trim)? Or do you do that ONLY when you run out of string completely and need to replace the entire spool? Also, must you remove that black cover plate to do this, or were you just removing it for demonstration purposes via closeup? I have only used a trimmer once and fought with it until I gave up. I need help. My lawn guy cracked and put holes in my new siding and has pulverized 2 shrubs after only 2 mows. I now need to order new siding which will not match because it'll come from a different lot. Please help. I hope you are still answering comments and that this posts.
If you have the Greenworks Pro 60V trimmer (model ST60L02) which is very similar to the model shown in video. You only have to take the spool head apart if there's a jam or problem of some sort. He only took it apart to get the line out so he could demonstrate how you LOAD it through the outside holes, after Lining Up Arrows. Once it is loaded with line, to advance more line out longer, you BUMP it on the ground (I recommend doing this on dirt/grass, not on cement). Good luck!

Ever since I have add to add line, and re-wind, It has not worked the same. It sure was nice that first go around when I could tap it to release more wire, now I have to do it manually, sucks!
1. Feeding the line isn't always a simple as you demonstrate. It pushes past the opposite hole without coming through, so you have to fiddle with it. 2. Winding - you wind yours counter-clockwise, mine only goes clockwise, and the string does not wind, like it's slipping or something, so I'm having to fiddle with that, too. I think I should have taken violin lessons before getting this model. If anyone has an answer for the string not winding I'm all ears. If I figure it out I'll report back.
I messed with it long enough to where it started winding. I'm not sure what I did, but I disassembled whatever you call the place where you put the string, put it back together a couple of times and it wound. The inner part may need to be set a certain way, but if that's the case there's nothing in the documentation or on any RUclips video that says anything about it.
I just got my Green Pro 80v 16" model similar to that. I'm having trouble with the handle assembly. I tighten the knob but it only has one bolt. It's not sturdy enough to support weight of machine. Shaft keeps popping out of the side that doesn't have a bolt.
Can you purchase the Quick Wind Head by itself. I have an older model that you actually have to take the spindle out and wind the string around it. Would prefer the quick wind.

I just wish mine had the "tap & go" head like the one shown as it looks alot simpler to reload the line...the one I have doesn't look like that....
How do I install a speed feed head on a 24 volt model? The string on the inside keeps slipping - pain in the ass! I can't find anywhere the head casing comes off.

I have this model but my head is just a simple bump feed. It doesn't have the load feature you were showing. Is that available for purchase from Greenworks
There's two prongs that fit down inside to hold the head/cap on. You have to squeeze those two prongs inward at the same time you pry or pull the cover upwards. There's a lip that the prongs have to clear.
mine is an 80v..why wasn't it made like the tap & go..simple line change for this one?? It's been less than a year since I got mine...have trouble adding new line..other than that...BEST BUY EVER!!!
I bought one of these and I’m having trouble when I tap the head the string does not feed it has drove me crazy does anybody know what I can do to fix this problem ?
This trimmer is great. The load and go system only works for the 1st season. All the plastic on the bottom wears away, you cant see the indicators anymore, then eventually there's no material on the knob to grab with your hand and wind. And the winding action binds or stops completely. The bump feed stops working. Anyone know how to remove this factory trim head ? I want to replace it with a universal trim head with quick change blades or sections of trim line.
this tool is a disaster and the video does not show the bump model which has a totally different spool system. what a waste of money - can anyone demonstrate how to load a bump model and keep it working? I have to stop every few feet and take off the spool and redo it - plus the bump doesn't work!!
Yep, it's a great product when you're using it, and a nightmare to put more line in once it's worn. I never considered seeing if the head can be replaced, that would be a perfect solution if it's possible.
@@vernjewett7891 I'm pretty sure the one in the video is the bump model... mine is the bump model and it looks exactly like the one in the video. But the whole spool system is still a total mess, I'll never buy one like this again, give me a simple one where you can cut individual pieces of line and slide them in there any day.

I also purchased an extra battery (as I have a very large area to "trim"..and I also went up to the longer time higher volt. battery (80V)..(also purchased the Greenworks, chainsaw..18"; and the tiller..the same size battery works on all 3..Would not have been able to do this (financially) , but thanks to Tractor Supply and a Special Financing..I will have them all paid for by August. I just wish mine had the "tap & go" head like the one shown as it looks alot simpler to reload the line...the one I have doesn't look like that....
Please where can buy those two parts you removed before restringing?
How do I install a speed feed head on a 24 volt model? The string on the inside keeps slipping - pain in the ass!
I can't find anywhere the head casing comes off.
I've have the Greenworks Pro ST60L02 and the bumper head is so chewed up you cannot see where the arrows are. And cannot find REPLACEMENT PARTS for the bumper head & cap. Any suggestions.....Anyone??
If you don't have to take it apart to get the line out, how do you get the old piece of line out? 😅
It usually flies out on its own.
I have this trimmer and used it extensively last summer . But noticed lately that the bump feed no longer feeds the line. Do I need to replace the bumper part? I'm not sure what the part is called or where to get it. Seems like Lowes is no longer carrying these anymore.
@@Protoolreviews I will do that. Thank you for the speedy reply 🙂
Thanks for this video!!!
What can I do to make the retreading nob easier to turn its hard to turn.
I have the trimmer but with the 4ah battery. Where do you find replacement batteries?
I noticed on other Greenworks weed wackers that the head could turn and be used as an edger. Can this model do that?
I have this model but my head is just a simple bump feed. It doesn't have the load feature you were showing. Is that available for purchase from Greenworks
Where can I get a quick load head for trimmer garryleehogue@yahoo.com thanx
I have a green works 60 V trimmer that I can’t get the new line in to. How do I remove the head to see if there is a blockage?
There's two prongs that fit down inside to hold the head/cap on. You have to squeeze those two prongs inward at the same time you pry or pull the cover upwards. There's a lip that the prongs have to clear.
mine is an 80v..why wasn't it made like the tap & go..simple line change for this one?? It's been less than a year since I got mine...have trouble adding new line..other than that...BEST BUY EVER!!!
What size string does it take? Thanks
We have the above trimmer ~ where can we find a replacement for the load n go head
I need to replace my head for this same trimmer and no one anywhere seems to sell a compatible trimmer head. Anyone have any luck finding a replacement head?
Can I order a replacement load and go system or by one at a store that deals in Greenworks products ?
There throw aways , you can’t parts anywhere, especially from Greenworks.
How do you get the head off at 2:25? I pressed the buttons on the side in on my 80v but no luck
It can be really tough to press it at the right spot. I use a pencil eraser to push it directly in and it works much better than using my fingers
Is there a wheel attachment that I can buy compatible with this tool?
