I'm a 74-year-old gay man. What I've learned mostly because of my miserable brother is there are lots of miserable people out there who are NEVER happy until they have made everybody around them as miserable as they are. Social media has gifted these people with the idea that the entire world wants to know what they think when we really don't care.
As a gay Gen Xer, I love older people, especially older LGBT. They paved the way for the rights and privileges we have today. I volunteer with Senior LGBT organizations in San Francisco whenever I can and fully realize my time is coming…hopefully!
My husband and I love you and Jim. We are straight but accept all. This life is already difficult without so much hate. You two are comforting, fun, and loving. That's why I jumped on the English girl whose comment was just the word "garbage." Truthfully, that was the first comment I had seen like that. But it appalled me! It really hurt to the core to see that. I may not be gay, but I am sick and tired of the way some people treat others that may not be exactly like them! ENOUGH! I am glad that you called out the mean ones. I am 51 and gay. I am lucky to live a full life because of the sacrifices and courage of my older brethren and sistren. I love that you show us that life continues to be fruitful, bountiful and you continue to evolve into a person who just is more appreciative of his/her gift of life. I have really appreciated the love and sense of community in a lot of your work. Palm Springs exudes an aura of inclusion, fraternity and wisdom.
Folks tend to hate things that they just don’t understand or that makes them uncomfortable. With these negative comments they just may be opening the door to understanding the unknown.

That's sad they made nasty comments about older people. All my friends have always been 20+ years older than myself. I'm not gay but I have several friends that are, they are still people and I love them for who they are as a person, its not based on what their sexual orientation is.

I, also, spent much of my youth as the youngest person in the room; I was most comfortable with older, more mature, people. Eventually, and inevitably, I became the oldest person in the room. This has required. Much adjusting on my part. I am saddened by each millimeter of "vim and vigor" that I lose, but what saddens me the most is the blatant ageism and arrogant assumptions of those who are currently in their prime. They are missing out on so much, and they are not somehow magically stopping the march of time - one day, they will be what they now so openly ridicule.

I’m just watching a fun channel with nice people. I find the channel to be entertaining, and I like your attitudes. There is so much negativity in the world and it seems to get worse each day. I watch what makes me happy, and I don’t care who is gay or straight. I don’t comment much but I always make sure to hit the thumbs up button to show support. Some of my favorite videos that you do are the cooking videos, or the cupboard tours. I have a bit of OCD and it’s very satisfying to see how clean and organized you two are. Keep up the good videos. One of the reasons I moved to PS is because I love seeing people out walking around being their true authentic selves, and if other people get upset seeing folks living joyful, fulfilling lives, that speaks more to their own personal misery than anything about you, and I actually feel sorry for them. I got my first two nasty comments in the last week, but I also found out I can "hide user from channel" instead of blocking so they can write all the awful things they want but nobody will see them. I also still get their page views. lol

Ok this is interesting timing. RUclips put you in my path and I'm glad. The other day I watched a youtuber, now going a bit viral, who sadly has a daughter who doesn't talk to her. I don't know what happened but at one point the woman said she and her husband were very accepting of "alternative lifestyles", they just don't think it should be shoved down their throats. I thought, and there it is. Isn't that the mantra of homophobes? "I don't mind but..." Now I am a straight woman with a straight son but I think any parent who isn't 100% accepting of their children, doesn't deserve them. I'm sick of all types of prejudice. I agree with you 100%. My older brother posted on FB that straights need a pride day and is tired of homosexuals shoving their lifestyle in their faces. I told him he and other straight people are lucky that they don't need a pride day because straight people are not discriminated by society, that laws are not being enacted to limit your rights to live your life, that straights are not committing suicide because they are straight, that straights can display public affection without danger, persecution, or violence against them. Told my brother I wish for the day when gay pride does not have to exist anymore.
At 63, things are starting to go south. Sagging skin, jowls, eyelid sagging, blind in one eye from a cataract, hair loss in the crown of my head, crepiness, large veins on my legs. Getting old is not for the faint of heart, but there's nothing I can do for most of it, and it would be a losing battle. These people, lacking in empathy, will soon see that they are experiencing the same things, and I can only wish them the best on that journey. Steve: Oh so right about being raised then to always respect your elders. Behavior and manners were front and center when we grew up. Seniors were seen as older and wiser, someone who has learned much and experienced much. Anyone older than us was addressed only as Mr. or Mrs. How times and attitudes have changed - not always for the better. Cheer up! You have far more friends than detractors.
A comment I get as a non-binary person is " What about the children?! What kind if exsample are you setting?" Queer is not catchy anymore then brown eyes, being short or having freckles. Its so ignorant of them.
Sadly that is a very big part of the problem Jerri. People seem to get less and less education every year and states like Florida are betting books and banning classroom curriculums that would help people be more educated and decent. Very sad! 😩
Oh Steve, I'm so sorry! As a straight woman whose career was nursing, I worked shoulder to shoulder with gay and lesbian people and they are friends too. My friends here are all gay, I trust gay and lesbians more than I trust straight folks. I love my friends as they are more authentic than my straight friends. What I saw at Pride was a community coming together to support each other, there were so many types of people celebrating and it was heart warming. When the state of Minnesota voted to make same sex marriage legal, I was at the capitol to celebrate, it was important to me to see history made and to celebrate freedom for all. When one group of people are segregated, how are any of us free? We all should have the freedom to be our authentic selves and celebrate who we are and celebrate our communities with love and freedom and yes, freedom from insults and nasty comments on RUclips. Really folks, it's much worse now than it ever was and it's time for all to grow up. I always think there is something very wrong with those who are stating these slurs, they must be terribly unhappy with themselves.
As a vegan I can relate to the “shoving down our throats” comment that is constantly posted in different ways on vegan sites. We have come a long way with gay rights but have a long way to go. I do think the younger generation seems to be more inclusive. If anyone has a caveat to being an ally … they are not an ally. I am not gay but raised my kids going to various events for rights for various groups. We have been to many rallies, parades and peaceful protests. Once we went to hear Dennis Kucinich speak in San Francisco. We walked into the event and realized it was a gay pride event. From what I could tell my husband, our three kids and I were the only non-gay participants. We felt like royalty. Everyone was so happy we were there. It was so much fun! Even Dennis Kucinich mentioned us during his speech. The entire 1 1/2 hr drive my kids could not stop talking about how much fun it had been and how kind everyone was. I am sorry you have received even one negative comment. I have found that those who are the biggest critics often have secrets in their own lives that they can not come to grips with. Sadly, they feel more comfortable criticizing others than to deal with their own business. You both are so kind and gentle at heart. I enjoy your videos.

Sadly, LGBTQ plus people get assaulted here in Palm Springs too. There’s just no escaping hatred and cruelty in the world. But The attacks here in Palm Springs are very rare. Probably because the community is so accepting and protective of LGBTQ plus people. Our last mayor was a transgender woman. One of the first of the country. So even though no place is completely safe, it’s definitely a lot safer here to live your life the way you were born. Your nephew will be very welcome here. 😄👍

Many, many years ago, during my disco bar fun, did wonder where older gay men went to go out? The were some "piano bars" where older people (gay) would go to, Years later ( I'm 70 ) , the thought of going out would be to a resturant , not a bar. Every age group has their own places to go to.

I'm a 74-year-old gay man. What I've learned mostly because of my miserable brother is there are lots of miserable people out there who are NEVER happy until they have made everybody around them as miserable as they are. Social media has gifted these people with the idea that the entire world wants to know what they think when we really don't care.

As a gay Gen Xer, I love older people, especially older LGBT. They paved the way for the rights and privileges we have today. I volunteer with Senior LGBT organizations in San Francisco whenever I can and fully realize my time is coming…hopefully!

That's why I jumped on the English girl whose comment was just the word "garbage." Truthfully, that was the first comment I had seen like that. But it appalled me! It really hurt to the core to see that. I may not be gay, but I am sick and tired of the way some people treat others that may not be exactly like them! ENOUGH! Sadly we live in the midst of alot of intolerant ignorance. It's our job to filter it out and not let it impact our lives. Social media has created the platform, but thankfully we can also delete and block! Those who post nasty comments are only venting their own "stuff" which in reality has nothing to do with you, your lifestyle or Palm Springs celebrating Gay Pride!! I work in a senior community where there a a few gay couples and some singles. I'm straight but have always felt an affinity with the gay community, and found the people I know to be my kind, open minded evolved and just fun to be around! I, also, spent much of my youth as the youngest person in the room; I was most comfortable with older, more mature, people. Eventually, and inevitably, I became the oldest person in the room. This has required. Much adjusting on my part. I am saddened by each millimeter of "vim and vigor" that I lose, but what saddens me the most is the blatant ageism and arrogant assumptions of those who are currently in their prime. They are missing out on so much, and they are not somehow magically stopping the march of time - one day, they will be what they now so openly ridicule.

I’m just watching a fun channel with nice people. I find the channel to be entertaining, and I like your attitudes. There is so much negativity in the world and it seems to get worse each day. I watch what makes me happy, and I don’t care who is gay or straight. I don’t comment much but I always make sure to hit the thumbs up button to show support.

One of the reasons I moved to PS is because I love seeing people out walking around being their true authentic selves, and if other people get upset seeing folks living joyful, fulfilling lives, that speaks more to their own personal misery than anything about you, and I actually feel sorry for them.
I got my first two nasty comments in the last week, but I also found out I can "hide user from channel" instead of blocking so they can write all the awful things they want but nobody will see them. I also still get their page views. lol

Ok this is interesting timing. RUclips put you in my path and I'm glad. The other day I watched a youtuber, now going a bit viral, who sadly has a daughter who doesn't talk to her. I don't know what happened but at one point the woman said she and her husband were very accepting of "alternative lifestyles", they just don't think it should be shoved down their throats. I thought, and there it is. Isn't that the mantra of homophobes? "I don't mind but..."
Now I am a straight woman with a straight son but I think any parent who isn't 100% accepting of their children, doesn't deserve them. I'm sick of all types of prejudice.

I agree with you 100%. My older brother posted on FB that straights need a pride day and is tired of homosexuals shoving their lifestyle in their faces. I told him he and other straight people are lucky that they don't need a pride day because straight people are not discriminated by society, that laws are not being enacted to limit your rights to live your life, that straights are not committing suicide because they are straight, that straights can display public affection without danger, persecution, or violence against them. Told my brother I wish for the day when gay pride does not have to exist anymore.

At 63, things are starting to go south. Sagging skin, jowls, eyelid sagging, blind in one eye from a cataract, hair loss in the crown of my head, crepiness, large veins on my legs. Getting old is not for the faint of heart, but there's nothing I can do for most of it, and it would be a losing battle. These people, lacking in empathy, will soon see that they are experiencing the same things, and I can only wish them the best on that journey. Steve: Oh so right about being raised then to always respect your elders. Behavior and manners were front and center when we grew up. Seniors were seen as older and wiser, someone who has learned much and experienced much. Anyone older than us was addressed only as Mr. or Mrs. How times and attitudes have changed - not always for the better. Cheer up! You have far more friends than detractors.

A comment I get as a non-binary person is " What about the children?! What kind if exsample are you setting?" Queer is not catchy anymore then brown eyes, being short or having freckles. Its so ignorant of them.

Oh Steve, I'm so sorry! As a straight woman whose career was nursing, I worked shoulder to shoulder with gay and lesbian people and they are friends too. My friends here are all gay, I trust gay and lesbians more than I trust straight folks. I love my friends as they are more authentic than my straight friends. What I saw at Pride was a community coming together to support each other, there were so many types of people celebrating and it was heart warming. When the state of Minnesota voted to make same sex marriage legal, I was at the capitol to celebrate, it was important to me to see history made and to celebrate freedom for all. When one group of people are segregated, how are any of us free? We all should have the freedom to be our authentic selves and celebrate who we are and celebrate our communities with love and freedom and yes, freedom from insults and nasty comments on RUclips. Really folks, it's much worse now than it ever was and it's time for all to grow up. I always think there is something very wrong with those who are stating these slurs, they must be terribly unhappy with themselves.

As a vegan I can relate to the “shoving down our throats” comment that is constantly posted in different ways on vegan sites.
We have come a long way with gay rights but have a long way to go. I do think the younger generation seems to be more inclusive.
If anyone has a caveat to being an ally … they are not an ally. I am not gay but raised my kids going to various events for rights for various groups. We have been to many rallies, parades and peaceful protests. Once we went to hear Dennis Kucinich speak in San Francisco. We walked into the event and realized it was a gay pride event. From what I could tell my husband, our three kids and I were the only non-gay participants. We felt like royalty. Everyone was so happy we were there. It was so much fun! Even Dennis Kucinich mentioned us during his speech. The entire 1 1/2 hr drive my kids could not stop talking about how much fun it had been and how kind everyone was.
I am sorry you have received even one negative comment. I have found that those who are the biggest critics often have secrets in their own lives that they can not come to grips with. Sadly, they feel more comfortable criticizing others than to deal with their own business.

Sadly, LGBTQ plus people get assaulted here in Palm Springs too. There’s just no escaping hatred and cruelty in the world. But The attacks here in Palm Springs are very rare. Probably because the community is so accepting and protective of LGBTQ plus people. Our last mayor was a transgender woman. One of the first of the country. So even though no place is completely safe, it’s definitely a lot safer here to live your life the way you were born. Your nephew will be very welcome here. 😄👍

@@steveinpalmspringsca I know right! Unfortunately, my mom passed away about 1 month ago. When her funeral procession was going down the road, there were only a few cars that stopped. When I grew up, if you saw a funeral procession, you pulled over out of respect. The lack of respect is just sad

Many, many years ago, during my disco bar fun, did wonder where older gay men went to go out?
The were some "piano bars" where older people (gay) would go to,
Years later ( I'm 70 ) , the thought of going out would be to a resturant , not a bar.
Every age group has their own places to go to.
Thanks for sharing that with us W. I will be 70 in a matter of days too. Are used to wonder the same thing. And I think back in the day people to do different things depending on their age. These days, I see gay people in their 70s and much much older at all of the pride parades. And even though we don’t go to the bars, from what I hear gay people are in their 70s and much older are still going to the gay bars here in Palm Springs. I think it’s nice that we have the freedom to do whatever we want to do now no matter how old we are. Even if we just want to stay at home and not do anything lol. 😄👍

Unfortunately some people don't realize how ignorant they truly are. If you are truly accepting of anyone you don't need to tell them, you show it in your behavior towards them and you certainly don't add qualifiers. Just love and accept people for who they are.

Whatever happened to the saying " If you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all" I'm so sick and tired of all the negativity against the LGBT community. I think some people need to do some soul searching and take a break from social media and maybe get some therapy. The people in the LGBT community deserve to live happy and fulfilling lives . It kinda reminds me of the Depeche Mode song People Are People. That part of the song where it saids "It obvious you hate me though I've done nothing wrong" really stands out to me. Love is love.
