If it's not mentioned in the description, all other gameplay in this video is my own. (CV1, CV3, CV4)
Came down to the comment section to look around and noticed this only has 154 views. Wtf? This quality did not give those vibes lmao.

Rondo of blood.
No question
Came here from the mario iceberg video you're doing god's work son love your stuff
amen brother
Agreed
#metoo
Wait he did that video? No wonder he is in my reccomended
@@just-mees same
Rondo of blood is easily the best bloodlines is second
Tbh SCV4 did not need a Version with extra Sound Channels like CV3 Famicom...
The SNES Sound Chip was a true *"Work of Art"*
I really don't understand why Super Castlevania gets so much love, honestly, might be some USA thing.
BTW shouldn't the x68000 version of Castlevania be in this comparison?
Yeah, the x68000 really should have been here, but at the time I found it too much of a hassle to get an emulator working. Basically I was dumb and lazy lol
Also I'm CANADIAN >:^(
@@MishKoz The X68000 emulator to use is XM6 Type-G, all of the others have problems.
Nostalgic reasons and possibly because of avgn
Super Castlevania IV was my childhood
They should've ported Rondo of Blood to the Sega CD in the US.
Or the PSX

Oh, if only🥲
Watching Simon (or whoever it is) swing his whip around rapidly is hilarious
Your right it is simon
Loved the video, but gotta respectfully disagree with what you said about Morris's swing being unweildly. Morris is completely invincible during his swing, and if you're clever you can use it to et past some tricky boss patterns (most notably the gear at the end of the munitions factory) and any enemies that are near the ceiling.
Man, I hope your channel blows up dude. The quality and content of your videos deserves some notice.
I really appreciate the kind comments! My channel did see a big boom with the Mario 64 iceberg video I made, so I'm happy enough with that!
@@MishKoz of course! May your hard work pay off with more fortune in the future.
lol "Eins, zwei, Haferbrei...."
Oh man, that library theme is SO cool! I think the SCV4 soundtrack is absolutely perfect. Proggy, jazzy, and darkly ambient. It’s just so unlike any other video game soundtrack of the time.
Dracula X is weird
Yeah rondo of blood is way better
Legitimately thought that at 5:55 Bowser's theme from Mario 64 was going to play
The first 2 blocks sound almost exactly how Bowser's theme starts

It’s beautiful how Castlevania had a great 8 bit trilogy and another in the 16 bit era. Rondo of Blood is my favorite also.
I agree with your number one pick. It’s practically criminal Rondo is not included with the Anniversary collection. I mean seriously, Kid Dracula instead of Rondo? WTF!?
Yeah, it really is a very strange omission.
scv4 music is atmospheric, so it just isn't high energy, also no text or other characters make yo feel alone, so it gives it an unique feel
Death sounds like Dario Brando
Death's VA is unfortunately not credited, but it's not impossible it was Tadashi Miyazawa.
it is so unfair we didn't get the better music in the US. that sound is bad ass.
I got bloody tears as my ring tune man i luv that track as much as a reg song on the radio.
Thank you sir and thanks for the great episode im right now getting the games (wink lmao) you said rondo was hard to get sooooooooooooooooo yeah had to do what i had to do. Thanks again champ.
Anyone else notice the salvia noises behind his voice?
I physically cringe watching some of my own vids because I didn't edit those out 😬
I wish they didn´t scrap this type of playstyle in castlevania games. I like the metroid style too but I don´t find those castlevanias as engaging as the older ones.
Thankfully we have the two classic-style Bloodstained games. Also I recommend checking out "Curse of Issyos" which is basically classic Castlevania gameplay, but set in ancient Greece.
@@MishKoz Thanks for the recomendations!
Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth wants to say hello
I have 4 carts of super Castlevania. Two for the collection and one for general usage. Scoring SOTN and Rondo and the original 8-16 bit collections are such a score to grab on physical. Castlevania and RE are truly the best with mega man and contra.
Ignoring the fact that you have 4 copies of the same game, you’ve only accounted for three of them. Collectors proving their stupidity for free.
@@shakesquire84ummmmm no… I’m actually preserving my money by buying something. As being a buyer of gold and silver and collectibles, I bet you buy onlyfans or some other gen z bs lol
Why is your channel so small- it should be huge i love your content :o
Just commenting to boost your crap for the algorithm
Konami: Besides the NES trilogy, SCV4, two of the Gameboy games and Bloodlines, we've also included...
Fans: Rondo of Blood?
Konami: ...a Japan-exclusive game...
Fans: RONDO OF FUCKING BLOOD?
Konami: It's... Kid Dracula on the Famicom...
Fans: ...
Konami:...
Fans: _DIE, MONSTER!_
Rondo of Blood was released in it's original form for the Wii. Unfortunately there's no official way to download to the Wii now.
Back when I first played Rondo of Blood a few years ago, I downloaded the Wii Virtual Console version and ran it through the Dolphin emulator because I was too dumb to figure out how to use a Turbografx emulator. Konami really does need to put this game onto more platforms though.
"IV is the best Castlevania EVER!"
"I dunno; SOTN, III, and Bloodlines are all really good."
"Yeah, but EIGHT whip directions."
"... Is that it? Not better story, music, graphics, or -"
"EIGHT directions. Eight. Best ever."
I kid. I'm sure IV fans have plenty of arguments. It's just funny how that's the go-to.
13:00 is the late japanease voice actor of Dr Eggman in Sonic games and Dr Weil in Megaman Zero
Chikao Ohtsuka! No wonder Death sounds so good, he's a great voice actor.
Rondo of GOAT.
4 real you’re putting in work over here mixed in with shitposts I love it
epilepsy warning at 9:54
It caught me off guard lol
Actually the most popular PC Engine game is Tengai Makyou: Zira, which just recently received a fan translation. Also I personally think that the characters in Castlevania III to be more fun than Simon in SCIV.
Commenting to support your channel through the algorithm! Great videos!
My man just hit us with the 1, 2, Oatmeal in the middle of his retrospective/review.
Beautiful.
Have you played Castlevania II Belmont's Revenge? It's the best original Gameboy Castlevania
Fantastic work man
For me it's:
1. Super Castlevania 4
2. Rondo of Blood
3. Bloodlines
Also Castlevania 4 has one of the best soundtracks in the franchises, I can literally name all of them, unlike the other two games. Dance of the holy man is the definitive theme of the entire franchise imo. No other track screams castlevania like it. This is the one thing I 100% disagree with.
02:11 It's so true, if only it was possible...
A few flashing lights got me but I love the video
Patrick Seitz also voiced Jiren
Castlevania 4 while being the more accessible game is leagues behind rondo of blood in terms of stage and enemy design
This got put up on my recommendations today so you're doing something right, great video man.
you really did just hit me with the 1, 2 oatmeal didn't you... gg
I cant balieve you put 1 2 oatmeal in this, that came out of nowhere and it made me so happy
why have i never seen this b4 this is goated
Rondos my favorite because it’s tough and the ost is much better than the other 2
commenting for the algorithm. Great vid, man
So basically what you're saying is Maria could fucking body Richter in a fight
Bloodlines (cause made Bram Stocker book canon to main timeline, a new story and characters to these times) > Super castlevania IV (good remake, but is one of various of same game) > Dracula X (slow, stupid platforms, today if u want a good remake just play dracula x chronicles)
always a great feeling when a random viral video has a great channel behind it, much love
Came from your Mario 64 Iceberg video. Definitely wish you got more recognition, your content is fantastic!
Watched the whole SM64 iceberg video, was recommended to me for some reason.
Then this... DAMN! Quality stuff! You got a sub!
Keep up the good work!
super/metroid/zeromission best ost of all time
I´ve only played Castlevania Adventure on the Gameboy.
And then later Dawn of Sorrow on the DS...
opus 13 is the best video game song change my mind
Overall, I think it's IV for me.
It's possible Rondo would rate higher if I'd played it back in the day or indeed just played more of it either way. Although, to be fair, we're comparing a CD add-on game that came way later down the line than the two cartridge-based games on the other systems, with Castlevania IV coming very early in the lifespan of the SNES to the point it's not even running in FastROM. So I actually think it's a little bit unfair to think of Rondo in exactly the same category as the other two entries in the series there. But, given we are, yeah, it definitely seems like a top quality entry.
14:01 Man, I never noticed that much sprite dropout there watching this game before. :-o
Bloodlines has somewhat ugly visuals a lot of the time and effects that sound a bit too harsh and dated for me. I've never really felt compelled to play that game past the first level or two, which tells me all I need to know personally. Still a solid entry, but I don't hold it in as high regard as some people do.
Iv bloodlines rondo of blood best games even and the gba games are great too and symphony of nignt
I'm almost finished playing through the entire 2D series for the first time, and man, I've been missing out. I didn't think I would enjoy the classic style games as much as the Metroidvanias, but I prefer them now!
I saved CV4 and Rondo for last.. just started Rondo!
Have you played through them all yet, and how would you rank the three Castlevania games in this video?
What about chronicles?
No Vampire's Kiss?!
God your content is amazing! Found it through the Lavender Town Video and currently binge watching everything :)
Btw that 9:50 was golden
I am glad you pointed out Castlevania 4 having inconsistent music . For all the praise that game's soundtrack gets, it was one of my least favorite parts of the game. The good music is really good, but almost half of the music was not to my taste and, frankly, felt out of place in a Castlevania game. I never felt that way about the other games covered here, or CV3. The most enjoyment I ever got out of CV4 was when I used the MSU1 hack to change the music I didn't like. But I also had to do something else. I avoided whipping in the other directions besides forward. One of my big disappointments in CV4 was that the level design does not feel to me that it compensates for the directional whipping. There are too many times you can whip through floors or from a safe spot underneath a bone dragon or something. In the end, CV4 was a big disappointment for me and I'm not a fan. I have concluded that the rigid jumping and overall feel which is largely consistent between the NES games Rondo and Bloodlines is the essence of the series.
The response I've gotten in the past from CV4 fans who can't stand differing views(luckily, most CV4 fans aren't like that) is that I didn't play the game in its time. But my response is that I didn't play any of these three in their time, but I loved Rondo and Bloodlines anyway. In fact, I played all three at roughly the same time, finishing one game and starting the next. I thought Rondo was the best one overall. Bloodlines was also a strong effort and I enjoyed it very much. I'm glad they they went back to the NES gameplay mechanics for those two and I think that's telling. A while later, I got around to trying the X68000 game by way of the PS1 and I ended up liking that one too. I really wanted to like CV4 more than I did and I played all three of those 16-bit games expecting them all to be great, but CV4 didn't speak to me, but clearly many people like it and good for those that do.
Once I got pretty good with Eric in Bloodlines, I grew to appreciate and prefer using John. It may be harder that way, but I think he's a bit stronger. It's been a while. Either way, I prefer him and his whip in the game, but both are cool.
My personal theory as to why some Castlevania 4 fans can be a bit obtuse is that the Angry Video Game Nerd was a lot of people's first introduction to Castlevania, and AVGN *fans* can be a bit... hyperbolic, to put it nicely.
I have seen a lot of people saying that the multi-directional whipping is more of a disservice to Castlevania rather than an improvement. I think someone else in this comment section even said that without the limitations of the old whip controls and jumping mechanics, CV4 just feels like a generic spooky platformer. I can definitely see that point of view, but I just like how powerful CV4 makes you feel, since the other games in this series _can_ be a bit brutal. It's a nice change of pace that only stuck around for one entry really, and that's why I'd say it's a good entry point.
Thank you for watching and leaving such a long and detailed comment. These are among my favorite to read through, it means a lot.
It's kinda nice seeing someone else who doesn't "get" CV4. I didn't get into the series until I played the PSP version of Rondo, so I didn't get the at release effect of the series. I've tried a few times to play CV4, and something about the game just doesn't click with me. Like other CV games I can get frustrated, but I'm still driven to keep trying until I conquer it. CV4 I game over a few times and give up. Meanwhile, the magic that is storming through Rondo with Maria destroying everything effortlessly with birds to rockin music, and the unique setting/style of Bloodlines with a cool spear user appeal way more. The "limitations" of other entries are what make the games so good. The stages are designed intentionally with those mechanics in mind.
Bloodlines is my personal favorite classic Vania, possibly fav in the series. I have a soft spot for the Genesis and it's unique twangs and graphical styles. The WW1 Europe setting intrigued me, the music slaps, the character designs and differences are cool, and it's just all around fun. Having difficulty settings also helps. Easy mode helped me get a grasp on the game before taking on normal. I'm really glad it's been released in collections, recently, to give us all a chance to try it.
Definitely wasnt expecting rondo of blood to have stands in it
love your vids man, love to see peeps with similar passion to create and inspired by games
Damn bruh your channel blew up with the mario 64 video, ur videos are great 👌🏽
imma say castlevania bloodlines because it has the exclusive that it was my first castlevania XD
Came here from the Mario video like most others and just went though your high-effort videos playlist. Some very entertaining/informative stuff, especially this very video. I've totally been neglecting the Castlevania series for too long, the only one I've finished being Aria of Sorrow. I'm now definitely gonna play Castlevania 4 and Rondo soon. Especially the latter seems great, and as a German speaker, I kinda love the overly dramatic intro voice-over.
Really glad RUclips threw you a bone by widely recommending that iceberg video. Because, for one, you definitely deserve the views, but also because I never would've found your channel otherwise. Hope you keep up the sick content, I'll definitely watch.
They actually did put the unaltered PC Engine version of Rondo on the Wii Virtual Console... but that's no longer available.
Also I kinda wish you had talked about the Sharp X68000 remake of Castlevania, since that was release around the same time and could be compared with Super Castlevania 4
My biggest regret for this video was not talking about the X68000 one, and it was for such a dumb reason. The laptop I recorded this on just wouldn't allow me to emulate PS1 stuff (hell you can see in the vid that I had to borrow footage for Rondo as well as Bloodlines). It's definitely still on my list of things to cover.
Honestly, it’s only comparable in that it’s a 16 bit castlevania. It’s quality is of debate, as it’s fun, but the barrier to entry is high. It’s a tough as nails, pain in the ass, and not exactly all that fun, imo. But it’s cool to check out for sure! Just really not in the same league of quality as Bloodlines, Rondo, or 4.
I like castlevania harmony of sorrow
Your doing gods work son 👍
Super Castlevania 4 is by far the best. By FAR.
Nah its the worst
Rondo gets my vote 👍🏻
Id love to see you do a 32-bit Castlevania comparison (SOTN, Castlevania Chronicles, Legacy of Darkness, Castlevania 64), or just review since the competition there isnt anywhere close.
At this point, I hope I'm not too old of a man to try these new and crazy looking platformers lol. I still like to rock CastleVania games. I really like all the fan hacks, remakes, and new games out there. The. Lecarde Chronicles fan games by Migami Games have some great remixes, including the library theme!
Everyone knows SOTN is the best
You deserve so many more subs!
dawn of sorrow is the best imo
but what do I know, I never beat any calssic vania
great content.
The music comparison for the Famicom CV3 vs the NES version absolutely blew my mind
My favorite version of Bloody Tears was the Castlevania Dracula X version.
Love the vids (:
My first Castlevania game was actually circle of the moon on game boy advance
I was in high school, later in college it led me to try out Symphony of the Night which I would probably also call one of the greatest games ever made
I had been waiting for the advanced collection to go on sale because I was incredibly intrigued about both replaying circle of the Moon and trying the ones that I never played
Finally grabbed it and started playing through, when the very next week the classic collection went on sale for $5
I had never been interested before because quite frankly I'm just not a fan of super difficult classic platformers.
But I figured for $5 what does it matter
I'm glad I did it because Super Castlevania 4 has become one of my favorite games I've ever played. The atmosphere, the fluid controls, and just the whole classic Gothic horror theme to it which already appealed to me is just perfect here
I'm also checking my way through bloodlines, which I don't like quite as much but it definitely grew on me once I got the hang of it. It also wasn't afraid to show a little bit of blood
Both of these games are more than worth the $5 that I paid
I might play around with some of the others but it's really just these two that I'm interested in
I had been looking at that $20 collection of rondo of Blood in Symphony of the Night on playstation, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend 20 bucks especially considering I already have the Xbox 360 port of Symphony of the Night
But I kept feeling left out of not being able to play rondo, and Dracula X on the advanced collection is not cutting it
Lo and behold I check PlayStation store sales yesterday and the Requiem pack is $4
Score
However what I'm finding, is that the rondo feels a lot stiffer and less responsive to me than both super CV4 and bloodlines.
As such it's making it much more difficult to play and I'm not sure that I'm really going to get into this one the same way that I have the others, but I'm definitely going to give it a fair shot
Definitely won't be upset if I just decide to play Symphony of the Night again either (although the re-recorded voice lines kind of have me conflicted. It's cool to see a little bit more serious effort put into it and to actually have it translated better, but the goofy voice acting was part of the charm of the original)
Anyway great video and if you read my long ass comment, thank you I appreciate it!
you've got the quality; just give it time and the views will follow
I'm honestly so glad you made this video. I've been wanting someone to compare these three and share their thoughts. For a long time I've been conflicted on whether I like Castlevania 4, or Rondo of Blood more. I think I want to replay them both now.
Such great content dude, love the structure of your videos!
wow when i found your channel you had 800 subs but only a short while later you have nearly 8000. you’re getting the attention you deserve man!
Hey man, I don't have anything creative to say but can I have a heart? The algorithm blessed your Super Mario 64 vid and now I'm going through the playlist.
I really like your work man 👍
Somehow the views are going up really fast.
Nice
this channel is such a gem, I cant believe "all known icarly deaths"(also a masterpiece) is what led me here
Good vids bro you should get more views
This video is actually incredible for the amount of views, do you have a PayPal bro?
0:23 what is the name of that game
The one with the dude jumping on pendulums? Castlevania 3. Specifically the Japanese version, which has a different title: Akumajou Densetsu.
The one with the glowy girl being followed by clones? Celeste.
Thanks
Never noticed the Simon voice pitch in 4.
Regarding Bloodines' difficulty I think the US person's difficulty is more balanced. Sure it's harder but the original version is mind numbingly easy at parts. The US version feels more complete with the extra enemy placements.
Personally CV 4 is my Favorite, probably due to nostalgic bias as it was the first Castlevania I beat
Not that popular opinion: I prefer Dracula X from SNES than Rondo of Blood...
not a popular opinion for a reason
Dracula X is a good game, but compared to Rondo of Blood, Super Castlevania lV, and Bloodlines it just falls flat IMO.
