Incredible reading. For more poetry readings, check out www.poetic-voices.com
I wish that this poem had been read without the musical accompaniment. This is such a powerful poem - it doesn't need it. Dance did an excellent job in his reading - he would have made Sassoon proud.
Exactly. I dislike the sappy music in the Mandalay video too.
@@esejsnake1503 I think here it works either way, but the music on the Mandalay video actually felt comical.
I actually like it with the music. Sospiri by Elgar, a tune that has the vacuum of heartache and loss. It goes with the poem. Sure, they both standup themselves, but together they make it very evocative.
For me it works
Watched this live on the BBC. One of the greatest things I've seen on TV
A superb reading of a great poem
What wonderful voice , this distinguished gentleman is my favorite actor , .❤️ Charles.❤️ is a high class actor.💎and a beautiful man , I adore him !!! 😘💕😍
The greatest sacrifice and the superb reading of a very haunting poem. We must never forget.
i liked the musical accompaniment. The reading was magnificent.
A superb rendition in the chill hopeless rain.
One of the greatest war poets who told it like it was, much to the annoyance of the establishment
why he is not knighted yet is the question to ask...
He was knighted in 2006.
John McGowan: Yes I agree he didn't need the musical accompaniment. His voice accomplished bri ginger forth the message.
the poetry, the endless poetry
🤣🤣 blackadder
Still powerful words a century later.
Blessed be the peace makers.
Powerful.
Such haunting words
Fantastic voice
A great poem. Let's hope Gretta Scacchi and her friends appreciate Charles' reading. And treat him to coffee and good food this Christmas.
Very superbly done.
Great to hear
Is there any way of removing the music? The words are emotive enough without us needing to be told what to feel.
amazing reading ! it gives me goosepimples :')
Wonderful poem.
Song is Sospiri by Elgar fyi
Sassoon wrote this poem as early as March 1919...
Charles Dance, brilliant actor, brilliant speaker, with a voice that is made for reading these poems, but not it seems to deserve a knighthood as Bruce Forsyth did ???
Yes, the Sassoon of ancient scribe kin, no less a descendant of Sinlequi-uninini of Uruk and his son Anubelshunu.
Who’s bright idea was there to have music?
England died on those bloody fields 😢
And for what
The excuse of Belgium !
Has Putin forgotten?
Sans la musique, bien sur
