There's the problem "The cost to operate the program is more than the revenue from the fines." The county gets $158/citation. If that isn't enough to cover the admin costs then the admin costs are WAY too high.
That's exactly right. The company that makes these cameras has basically been scamming the government with fees. This video talks about it in detail: ruclips.net/video/pH9dnJ8BmY0/видео.html
I'm pretty sure it costs a lot to maintain and monitor. It probably takes an engineer, some sort of IT, and the other admin staff to send out the tickets. That's just the minimum staff, probably more staff hired than that.
The county only gets $128 per ticket issued? Look I am not a fan of red light cameras, but no wonder there is no money for the program! If you know anyone who has gotten a red light ticket from one of those cameras then you know the tickets start at like $600. How he// does the county only get $128!?
I didn't get ticketed by a camera but a police officer ticketed me years ago. My ticket was $450. I paid half and did community service because I had a very low income at the time.
Yes, ppl running through red lights now is a serious problem. But I’ve also noticed that the timing from yellow to red on one red light camera in particular seems faulty. I counted from a distance and it was about 3 seconds, which to me, sets up ppl to get a ticket. So maybe they purposely set it up that way? Sacramento had a problem about the timing of their lights once before.
They're reporting this like it's a bad thing, but it's not. It's a good thing. What it means is that the number of red light runners has decreased so much that the city is no longer issuing enough tickets to pay for the expensive cameras. That means the program has achieved its goal, and it's time to declare victory and pull the plug on it.
Why should “PROFIT” be factored into “Public Safety”? Do they no longer factor in “cost of human life” when determining safety measures? It seems that California abandoned “Victims” long ago.
It's the same as when the government needs to "negotiate" border security. These things should be automatic, and not up for negotiation or budgetary minutia...

Basically, the county wants to figure out new rules to come up with that people arent accustomed to so they can raise revenues again through a new income stream of fines
If there has been an 89% DECREASE IN CRASHES, then why is it costing so much to keep them? It's the way the entire state of California is spending money that's why.
because you have to hire engineers to be constantly monitoring 24/7. 40 hours per week per engineer requires at least 4 engineers. at 200k each that's 800k just for engineers. then some photo viewers, maintenance workers, these costs stays no matter how many people gets ticketed
@@gabrielchow1994 I can agree with that said. But, Simply Safe and Ring monitored is roughly $100 per month. I would think the state or any city could replicate the financial area if they wanted to. They don't want to.
Red light camera did not stop people from running red light and increased maintenance cost 2x 3x over year. If need replace new one, going cost alot more.
The government has not been tasked with creating for profit industries from each office. Tree permits, fees, ticketing etc.. nobody voted that this is their purpose. In fact their purpose is to receive all of the tax revenue and dole it out fairly across needed areas, road work, police etc.. so then to collect and run each office for profit on top of that is very awkward.. vulture capitalism.. unsound.. extortion etc
Thank goodness! Finally! A $600 ticket is too extreme for good drivers. The camera companies take most of that money and are corrupt, too. The courts are also not on the side of the drivers.
The key Takeaway on this should be they were installed in 1991, and then they used 2021 as a date to tell how many traffic accidents there were. It was stated that by 2021 the accidents at the fell to 69 per year. What the hell happened in 2020 that would have prevented people from using the roads as much? Maybe tell us what it was in 2018 or 2019 2021
Increase the ticket amount to cover the cost. There were red light cameras in my town and they eventually removed them. Now red light running has become an epidemic. You don’t dare enter an intersection when the light turns green without pausing.
I think the vendor gets a big chunk and then there is the staff that has to review the images and build a case. I believe when the ticket is disputed, the state has the burden to prove it is the driver.
when people run red light they need to understand they put their own lives at risk too and their insurance will have to pay for damage to others when they do so
I'm glad they removed them, it's BS that we live in a nanny State that thinks it's okay to use technology like this in the first place. If anything, deploy more police and don't make it a profit-driven decision. Let them issue warnings to normal people who go a few miles over the limit and tickets to those who actually deserve them for driving dangerously.
The cameras amount to a tax on people in the nehoods that they are in....I went to court for a red light camera ticket..and questioned the officer..He could not tell me how many traffic accidents took place at that intersection in thevpast 12 months and he answered that on that day the camera captured 15 "violations'..that means once every 90 mins..That's ridiculous..It tells me that the traffic light is timed in favor of fining people!! In my case it would have caused an accident if I slowed to stop because of the traffic behind me!! But the judge is impartial to collecting the fine..Meanwhile I spent 1500 to fix my suspension damaged by potholes on the same stretch of road!!! Good riddance.. Traffic cameras are a money grab..They kept them as long as they were making money despite the statistical proof that they don't male roads safer...Los Angles admitted this when they reduced the use of these cameras.
so most people stop so they aren't making money from the tickets so they gotta get rid of it so more people run it and then they get money for tickets...safety...last?
No it was revenue for a Privet company that leased the cameras. they would get $300 for every ticket. then funneled back to city leaders pockets by donations. the company said they did not want to pay the new city leaders so they cut the program.
Woot its a win! Red light cameras causes more accidents because people stop on the brakes before the intersection. Also you can't compare 1999 data to 2020 data. And if it cost more accident the camera was recently taken offline so that means yhe camers were still active when accident spikes.
Good, obviously there not doin shit since they dont even snap enough tickets to support themself.if there were enough tickets from runners they have kept it.dont u love the way they toss a couple of pro camara goons up on screen to try and convince people there help push their point of view but none opposing them .
Whatever safety "improvements" red-light cameras offer - they pale (pale) in comparison to roundabouts and mini-roundabouts. Roundabouts work more effectively than signal-light intersections because signal-light intersections have thirty-two (32) conflict points - while a roundabout has only eight (8). Signal intersections are an antiquated, dangerous, expensive, wasteful regime that is long past retirement. Migrating to roundabouts also uses no electricity or switchgear. All stop sign intersections should also be migrated. ruclips.net/video/X0RcTWEBtYM/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Some of the cameras are far to sensitive and flash at everything. They know this because they won’t send out a ticket. I also bumped into one that was placed at a yield sign and also had a stop here at red. I’m going to see a red yield sign over a white stop on red in the middle of the night while trying to merge. They also need to fix many of the stop signs in older areas and reduce them. There is no need for a 4 way stop on every corner. Roseville has done it correctly especially in almost of the newer neighborhoods.
89% decrease in crashes is a damn lie. Other statistics show they don't prevent anything but do cause traffic congestion. Someone missing a green light by .05 seconds does not cause accidents. By the time the light changes to red and the other light turns green it takes a minimum of 5 seconds for the other car to get out far enough into the intersection to cause an accident. 99% of the drivers take their sweet ass time to get moving when the light turns green. And pedestrians, they need to pay attention to their surroundings because ultimately their safety falls on them.

its based on speed limit of the road 1 second for evey 10mph so if the speed limit is 30mph the yellow light is 3 seconds long
