    The commentary with the surfing was really useful to get a better idea of the technique.

    Another great one Ben. Thanks for breaking all these things down into simple drills. I've got my two drills setup for tomorrow's surf.

    I found that staying low on take offs on hollow or steeper wave's I get more speed to catch the section. This sets you up for a longer ride.

    That was a great explanation and visual representation of faded bottom turns. Surely being able to master that increases the amount of different waves to surf.
    Great channel and videos.
    Is there any chance one of you tip times could explain an easy way to pivot a long board from a sitting position. Instead of having to stop traffic to turn and paddle for a wave 👍

    I AM A LITTLE CONFUSED. SOME VIDEOS SAY THAT WE SHOULD POSITION OURSELVES A LITTLE IN FRONT OF THE BOARD TO MAKE THE TAKE OFF EASIER. WITH YOUR EXPLANATION I WILL BE POSITIONED BEHIND BECAUSE THE FOOT NEEDS TO TOUCH THE AND THE RAIL.

      Hey! It can be confusing, but essentially there’s 2 different kinds of pop-ups for longboarders to use depending on the section they’re taking off on/and what they’re trying to do. The first one that you mention where the pop-up occurs further up the board is used to ensure we’re maintaining speed such as when taking off in fatter/flatter sections without as much speed, and we can also utilise this takeoff if we implement an angled takeoff in more steep sections. The other pop-up where the foot is near the tail is a more advanced approach where as we pop-up we engage the rail to turn straight away, either via a bottom turn or a fade takeoff for the most part. The challenge here though is we do have to position and/or wait for the section to be steep enough to turn immediately, otherwise we may fall off the back of the wave because the tail is our stalling point. But this takeoff is used for more advanced purposes such as fade takeoff or adjusting board position for Noseride immediately after takeoff as an example. I hope that somewhat helps!!! 🙏🤙

    These are very useful tutorials. I use to use the fade takeoff habitually but then just forgot about it. On a steeper wave it can have some consequences.
    Q: Why don't you use a tale-pad?

    Thanks Ben. I'll try this technique tomorrow morning...
    Question. I'm riding a 9.6" 23 x 3 mal. 6 years old. When I'm paddling for a wave tend to miss a lot. The ones I get are great. I feel I am spending more energy paddling for waves then actual surfing. I notice others seem to be riding thinner boards and catching more waves with ease. Weighing 89kg Looking to upgrade . Is a thinner board better for catching waves? Cheers

      @Nandox7 Год назад +2

      Could be many things but I'd go with you trying to catch the waves too early. Risk it and progressively try to catch them a bit later.

      I have a 9’6”x23 1/2x3 1/4 torq board and I have the same problem sometimes. The sweet spot between being too far forward and too far back on the board is only a few cms. Too far back and I miss the wave, too far forward and I nose dive. Try moving up on your board in small increments until you get the sweet spot and you should catch just about everything you paddle for. If you find you’re nosediving every time, the. You went too far forward. I hope this helps you a little bit.

      @geoffhenson792 Год назад

      @Nandox7 Thank you yes that is one of my issues. Trying to stand up too early. I will certainly try a few more paddles and feel more momentum before standing up. Cheers

    • @geoffhenson792
      @geoffhenson792 Год назад

      @Jackie Casburn-GeminiCxC Thank you Jackie. The sweet spot is the key. As yes too far forward is you nose dive. My main issue is I am too far back fearing the nose dive. Then fall off the back of the wave. I may need a little more fitness out of the water too. My main issue is generating enough speed. Cheers

    I’m starting to be able to do faded takeoffs but cross stepping completely eludes me. As soon as I step I slip off. Any tips on how and when to take that first step?
