This show is sooooo much deeper than alot of those shows. You really have to take the dialogue very literal in season one but there is TONs of lore that will build up as you watch. I've watched this whole series probably four times over in the last 2 years and countless hours of youtube videos to get a full understanding of the whole big picture. The show may seem simple at first but there are huge amounts of history, lore, theory, etc that builds massively
Happy to see you’ve started watching From! Really glad to see it’s getting a lot of attention recently. I understand it’s riffing on the vibes of other apocalypse media, but the story it’s telling is insanely gripping and unique and the mysteries are far and beyond any I’ve seen before. I hope you continue to enjoy the show and lose your shit at the mysteries!
Harold Perrineau is an EXCELLENT ACTOR and doesn’t get enough credit, especially for his role as Boyd. He probably is the most well known actor in the cast as he’s been in a lot of shows/movies going back at least 30 years. Yes, From does have some TWD vibes. Boyd goes through the same things emotionally of being the natural born leader but often struggles with the pressures of leading a group who are at times, ungrateful. Rick Grimes went through the exact same thing. From is definitely worth the hype.
He really is, I loved him in Lost but hated his character, but I've seen him in the Rookie and some other shows, I haven't seen Sons of Anarchy but I think he's a villain in it, but this is his magnum opus I think, his performance is so gripping and he imbews so much emotion
I know good and damn well this man didn’t categorize THEE Harold Perrineau (“Boyd”) as some up-and-coming actor lol! 😅🤣 No shade or insult meant, but Harold Perrineau has an EXTENSIVE TV/film resume that includes hit projects like HBO’S “Oz”, ABC’s “Lost”, the 1990’s “Romeo & Juliet” remake, “The Matrix” 2 and 3, “The Best Man” (film and TV franchise), “Zero Dark Thirty”, and on, and on, and on. That brotha STAYS employed. “FROM” landing him for the lead role was a huge get for MGM+. But congrats on giving the show a chance and I appreciate your honest take on the series. You just earned another subscriber. 😊 👍🏿
Funny how you don't recognize any of the actors while I recognized Harold Perrineau (Boyd) from Lost, Oz & SOA and Eion Bailey (Jim) from Once Upon a Time & Band of Brothers 😂
J dog I was surprised to see you caught on and started the show randomly too - it reminds me of a small town horror version of Lost which Boyd was actually a cast member of - and a hint of twin peaks david lynch bizarreness - I liked it at first and then started loving it.
The season 3 finale is next week. This is just some background information of the show: John Griffin is the showrunner of From and he came up with the idea for the show back in 2001. John Griffin came up with all of the mysteries/answers before he started making the show. Jeff Pickner and Jack Bender worked on a TV show called 'Lost' but they weren't in charge of Lost. John Griffin got Jeff Pickner and Jack Bender to work on From with him so thats why on the advertisements for From, it says that it is made by the executive producers of Lost. Lost is a mystery show that was making up the mysteries/answers as it went along. This is why people get worried when they see that on the adverisements for From, it says 'made by the executive producers of Lost'. Like I mentioned before, John Griffin came up with the mysteries/answers for From and he has nothing to do with Lost. From is John Griffins Magnum Opus which he has been planning to make for 20 years. Fun fact the actor who plays Boyd was in Lost. To answer your other question I got hooked onto From really quickly with the opening scene. The way it was filmed and the atmosphere was so good. I knew instantly I was gonna love this show.
Watching this show, I was kinda hoping for prime Murder Jacket Rick Grimes to teleport into the town somehow and be confronted by Boyd asking him to give up his weapons. "I'm gonna teach you people. I'm gonna teach you people how to SUVVVIIIIIIVE! The monsters are already DEAD!" and so on lol.
The guy who plays Boyd has been in a lot of things-Oz and Losr(same producers as this show) From is a really good show. Very addictive. Some people get frustrated with the non stop mysteries-it gets A LOT deeper than just monsters that come out at night- but that is the part I enjoy the most. The ADHD Brigade(you know the type!) will say its bad, but that is because they need everything spoon fed to them instantly! Late in S3 we are getting some major revelations.
Definitely not the best tv show ever however I'm on season 2 atm and loving it. It's giving Lost vibes more than anything. The only things I'm not keen on are the lack of monster action and the sound quality is really strange to me. Idk if anyone else feels this way but you know when an audio gets messed up so actors have to record their lines and it just gets played over the scene? That's what the WHOLE show sounds like to me if that makes sense lol. But other than that no complaints. Really like the characters too!!
I don't want to spoil anything, but you're absolutely right. The producers and writers are trying to capture the feeling of The Walking Dead and Lost without knowing why those shows started off strong. Boyd gets better. He's like a discount Rick Grimes. He, Kenny, Jade, and Victor are the best acted characters in the show. No one else comes close. Be prepared to be frustrated and disappointed at wasted potential.
It is worth a hype, you'll see later on, it fits in horror and mystery fashion, I don't think it has something in common with other shows, take it like a horror mystery show, ofc. it isn't supposed to be something like the shows we know but it's good horror ❤️ I wouldn't really go deep with acting or characters, just take it as humans regular surviving there It will be better later on ❤ Just don't compare it to those big shows, it's good in it's own light BCS BB TWD GOT HOT are legends on it's own❤
Interesting to hear about this from someone I actually trust for reviews. I've seen people try to hype it up but the sense I get is that it is slow and not the best show. I get the vibe from the ads that it might not be for me, and that's okay. I will still check it out but the reason I like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead and everything was the direction and characters. Even when Walking Dead is shit the world still feels so believable and the characters are so damn likable and well acted. Bad/boring characters is a rough sell for me.
If you turn it on you won't stop watching that's how far behind you are and you have to pay attention to the conversations being had please by all means watch every episode twice because you will miss the background I promise you
I'm really enjoying/liking this show a lot, though one my main complaints would be the fairly slow pacing and not a lot of progress being made, and also some of the characters I liked have progressively gotten more annoying. But overall I still really like it.
Omg yes i remember i told u to watch it before u prob don't remember im on s3 ep 9 lets go u still need need to watch the movie the secret life of Walter Mitty my fav movie but man form s1 and 2 are so good 3 isnt too bad but i do disagree that its like a carbon copy of TWD somewhat this is a great show And with the acting this show has incredible acting but i do agree Tabitha and Jim their acting can be weird but still good the actress for the character donna is fantastic One final thing is end of s1 and s2 ep1 are amazing
Bro believe me the acting will became worst ... In season 3 it feels like a middle school show.... And it gets boring and repetitive so : Season 1 :8/10 Season 2 : 6/10 Season 3 : 5/10
Jerry, If it didn’t hook you in the first 10 minutes then this show isn’t for you. I’d stop watching and count yourself lucky you won’t go mad by the slow pace and trying to figure out what it all means. There are plenty of channels devoted to From, maybe look for the next big thing.
More than The Walking Dead or The Last of Us this show is a knockoff of Lost. Maybe you never saw it but Boyd was also a main character in Lost making it feel even more like LOST!!!! Same premise. They're stuck somewhere mysterious and can't get out. Right down to building a signal tower on high ground. I've only watched 1 season of FROM so far and finding it very mid and unoriginal.
I’m going to be completely honest, I’ve been watching since the beginning. We still do not have answers in season 3. It’s not like TWD, but more like FTWD 😂. If you like disappointment, please keep watching. Misery loves company.

Sorry I came across so strong.. just obsessed with this show and saw you were covering it and it just spewed out! lol
Depends how deep you want to dig
@bishbosh4815 very true!

This is a puzzle box show. They're no instant gratification, and you have to pay attention.
It's NOT a knock off 🤦🏼♀️
Ikr, just because a show takes inspiration from other shows doesn't mean it's a knock off
J dog I was surprised to see you caught on and started the show randomly too - it reminds me of a small town horror version of Lost which Boyd was actually a cast member of - and a hint of twin peaks david lynch bizarreness - I liked it at first and then started loving it.

Love this show keep going ❤
The actor who plays Jim the Dad played on the show once upon a time as Pinocchio ❤
Yes, please continue it gets more interesting and more questions. Very good entertaining show.
Watching this show, I was kinda hoping for prime Murder Jacket Rick Grimes to teleport into the town somehow and be confronted by Boyd asking him to give up his weapons.

It's a slow burn but it's so good! It's similar to twd but more. They're compared because there's so little out there to compare it to!
Honestly you should watch LOST, the main actor that is is FROM was in Lost and the shows really good, a classic.
I’ve seen it! It’s very good!
It gets wayyyyyy better bro. The acting too I thought it was pretty weak at the start but it got good
Definitely not the best tv show ever however I'm on season 2 atm and loving it. It's giving Lost vibes more than anything. Honestly i dont see any comparisons with walking dead, feels nothing like it
R t nothin

L take. TWD had nowhere close to From’s world building
Discount Rick Grimes is too kind.
It is worth a hype, you'll see later on, it fits in horror and mystery fashion, I don't think it has something in common with other shows, take it like a horror mystery show, ofc. it isn't supposed to be something like the shows we know but it's good horror ❤️

Definitely should continue with the show but I will say the latest season has been prettty slow so far
Sorry to tell you this Jerry but szn 3 has 1 episode left and we have more questions than answers rn 😂😭
Sheeeeeesh
you should watch and review outerbanks
Bro believe me the acting will became worst ... In season 3 it feels like a middle school show.... And it gets boring and repetitive so :
Season 1 :8/10

It’s made by the creators of LOST that’s why it’s similar
@jerrystakes creators, Boyd, same premise. Find a way out, fail, etc.... starting S2 now will see if that changes at all
That's not really fair. From takes inspiration from Lost and there are definitely similarities but it is unique and has it's own lore and story
@bishbosh4815 now someone's gotten out. Still just like lost.
I’m going to be completely honest, I’ve been watching since the beginning. We still do not have answers in season 3. It’s not like TWD, but more like FTWD 😂.
