    Great catch - love your laughter - Question : Is it always OK to use an extra rod to catch bait fish like jack smelt, mackerels, anchovies in the ocean?

      Yes, as long as you are not targeting rockfish or salmon. Rockfish and Salmon have one rod and hook restriction.

    Mo how did you not catch lingcod with that bait set up? Usually u can catch lingcod at that location, .....any tricks how you separate catch for lingcod and halibut? Or just luck?

    Hey Moo. I see you're near the green can here. I see there is also a fairly shallow reef near that. Any concerns with breakers coming over that reef?

      It was get bumpy in that area but from my experience, not too many breakers. One area you really need to watch out for is the King's Rock. Big rollers can be there especially durning low tide.

    moomoo! hey do u carry frozen bait when u head out in case sabiki rig doesnt catch anything?

      If have herring that I caught in the freezer then yes. That's what I was using at first. I generally don't like to buy bait. I take more pleasure in catching fish with the bait I caught.

      Half Moon Bay kayak company in Pillar Point Harbor is the place. They let us launch at their property and also they let us use there hose to rinse off our gear.

    Awesome! What brand (and size) sabiki do you recommend for mackerel?

      I use whatever cheap sabiki and I recommend size 6 or bigger just because they can bend the smaller hook out. I was using size 9 and at the end of the day two hooks were bent out.

      Are you talking about the "fish cooler" bag? It doesn't fit good in the hatch. I need to make some kind of liner so I don't have to clean the fish hatch LOL

      They do work but I find salmon and mackerel works the best

      Yes I love mackerel. I really picky with fish and don't like fishy fish but I love the flavor of the mackerel.

    I would never go out in the kayak in the ocean you know they got sharks out there right I was in a 16 foot trailer haul a little boat about mile or two out fishing for salmon back in the days and a big gray thing. Pull up next to me it was a great white shark as long as the boat so 16 footer scared the shit out of me. I burnt my fishing line drop my beer started the motor and I hauled back but my help my ass back to the harbor, I was scare acropolis man and I’m old enough to where I watch the movie Jaws many times you definitely need a bigger boat😂
